This does make me a bit hopeful for the second season of the show, since that will cover my favorite part of the manga. Though I'm still gonna be cautious becase first season took a dip in quality after 4 or so episodes (right after Gina's fight), and towards the second half it was mostly numerous flashbacks to things that just happened and imo kind of underwhelming direction. There was a lot of good things, like Andy's memories, Billy's betrayal etc. but I still wish the rest was better.
Though if we can keep the quality of those first couple episodes, I think it's gonna be amazing.

I keep hearing this is a passion project for David Prod and they still are on the production committee. So maybe they will get back to this series after Jojo Pt 7 is finished.
I did like E&H production’s work on the special though I would prefer a collab with David prod because I don’t trust E&H for a cour of content by themselves.

I see, it was produced by another studio, Did not know that since I automatically assumed it was gonna be done by David Production, same as the first season was.

I took part in the rewatch and honestly outside of a couple instances, the flashbacks didnt bother me this time around. Watching it weekly may have impacted people's opinions at the time of release

I binged the whole manga after watching this special, and now I am really hoping that they can somehow adapt the whole story, even if it takes many years to get all 4-5 seasons that they would need to do it. The second half of the series is some of the best shounen I have ever seen with incredible pay-offs and character development.

It was kind of insane tbh. I dropped off so hard in the next arc and swapped to the manga

Aside from the CGi UMA it was a pretty good looking special much like the series. It goes to show that E&H production is best off doing adaptations.

I already thought Juiz was cool but HOOOOLY SHIT

I wished S1 was like this just non stop straight action.
S1 faced the same problems with Fire Force, that f*cking SHAFT Monogatari Series ahh distraction amd pacing
Its a shouen series dammit, those panning out of frames etc ruin the action.

It's amazing how much padding the anime added. When the first 4 episodes were airing, people assumed the anime would end around chapter 67/68 rather than the 52 chapters we got.
If you didn't manage to finish season 1, then I recommend that you google 'Unpad Undead Unluck'. It's an edit that cuts out almost 90 minutes of filler.
abandoned_idol2026-01-10 20:21
True, but I didn't feel much dissonance during action scenes.
Very noticeable during dialogue-only scenes, of course.
Glass_Pizza81382026-01-10 19:10
I haven’t watched undead unluck is it good?
seninn2026-01-10 19:15
Yes, I liked it a lot. Very good shounen.
abandoned_idol2026-01-10 20:20
Yes, it is really good.
Watch it if you're into either:
1). "The floor is now lava"
2). Rule of cool
3). Sad-heroic drama
That said, the power system is loose (1 power == every feat you can think of). The writing makes up for it in my opinion.

I ended up dropping it as I didnt like the MC, got a little tired of him.
But admittedly the show had one of the more interesting shounen plots.
Def worth a shot to form your own opinion.

I've watched the show and read the manga to it's conclusion, and the short answer here is: yeah, kinda.
It's got some really, really well executed powersets and abilities. I really like the "Un-" style powers. Its unique and rarely wears out it's welcome. But the story tends to get stuck in the mud a lot and often comes down to "X-Person is just so awesome that the plot can't stop them." Also it has a decisive midpoint that changes the story entirely. Not anything outside it's own rules, but I def enjoyed the first half of the series more than the second. The ending, however, is pretty strong.
I enjoyed the series. And have *certainly* seen worse. But I've also seen better. Take that as you will.

Undead Unluck has great animation and a unique story, but I couldn’t get into it.
The leads alone could carry a full story, but then there is this save the world plot and hunting down other mutants plot that was just too much for me.
Adventurous-Exit58322026-01-10 19:32
Is this season 2? How the fuck did i miss it
CanadianNoobGuy2026-01-10 19:48
this is from a special episode that aired 2 weeks ago, and they announced season 2 at the same time, but this is not season 2, we don't have a release date on it yet

I forgot about this anime a while ago and forgot how dam good it was. I'm definetely going back to finish season 1.
turkeygiant2026-01-10 23:36
I really appreciate animation that is incredibly fast paced but still keeps some human kinetics in the scenes. In an era of flash cuts and human projectiles (ironic given his projectile appendage powers) its great to see people actually moving their bodies in a fight.
Knuckleheaded-beardo2026-01-12 06:13
That makes two of us.

Undead Unluck is on the level of jjk but only gets half the attention 😔✊️🥀
