That would imply Trigun deserves it. I've given it plenty of fair shakes and I get why it would be if you just look at it, but Trigun isn't good enough to hang with either of them.
Believe me I wanted to like it, my favorite series probably had most of the same staff as Trigun worked on it compared to any other series.

Not really? It aired on Cartoon Network, during the 90s that's pretty much as good as any anime could hope for. The only way it could have really gotten more exposure would have been for it to air in the afternoon block instead of the Midnight Run.

I've always heard it didn't do well in Japan so that would be the undervalued case.
