The two main things to come out of the casting news:
1. Cure Maple (all we need now is for Nanaka Suwa to voice a "second girl" to complete the minimaxer list).
2. **DON'T TRUST POCHITAN!!!**

Hard to trust Jet-senpai too (after the Rumbling and all) :P

They had to wait for me to go to bed before dropping all this, didn't they.
My first thoughts are it's Makoto Mirai Town in 2027 yet Makoto Mirai City in 1999, that an MTLism or something happened? Checking with the Japanese it could well be a sign of the latter as Makoto Mirai Town is katakana (マコトミライタウン) while Makoto Mirai City is hiragana (まことみらい市). Then again it's not like anything came of Wonderful Precure being written in hiragana (making it ぷりきゅあ instead of プリキュア).
I'm pretty sure time travel is one of the regular things to come up in "what do you want the next Precure to have" (gaming and dreams are others).
Seeing it set in 1999 but featuring a character from 2027 gives me hope we won't be returning to the present until near the end but normally the required macguffins are collected by mid-season for something new to take its place so we'll see.
Villains being phantom thieves I'm guessing the things they steal will be the monster of the week. I could do with a break from turning people into monsters. Maybe there will be some hybrid stuff with some objects becoming cursed and corrupting people [character bio stuff]>!perhaps that's why Cure Arcana Shadow is a phantom thief (sort of riffing off Phantom Thief Jeanne).!<
Reading the casting comment pieces shows the passage of time as "I watched Precure as a kid" increasingly comes up [(I was an adult when Precure first came out)](#whippersnappers).
> Hikari Senga as Anna Akechi/Cure Answer
That's probably the fastest VA debut to lead Precure ever. I'm serious [last year](https://en.namu.wiki/w/%EC%84%BC%EA%B0%80%20%ED%9E%88%EC%B9%B4%EB%A6%AC#s-2.1) she was doing unnamed background characters.
SliderGamer552026-01-11 01:28
Unfortunately, I'm going to assume this isn't gonna be about a magical girl solving murder mysteries, which would've probably made me a day 1 watcher through premise alone if it was.
Torque-A2026-01-11 01:31
The synopsis mentions phantom thieves, so it’ll be more Lupin I guess
SliderGamer552026-01-11 01:39
Ah ok, that's a neat enough second option.
I would love to see a cute magical girl prove that a locked room suicide was actually murder tho.
Torque-A2026-01-11 01:40
wouldn’t we all
Alive_Gate_97312026-01-14 17:07
Sounds like Umineko, but the cute magical girls are the ones forcing you to forget the truth and surrender.
SliderGamer552026-01-14 20:59
As a long time Higurashi fan, I should get around Umineko or literally any visual novel that isn't Zero Escape.

Precure is primarily a toy commercial for 4-7 year old girls. It's usually a pretty decently good show overall and treats its target audience with enough respect that it's still watchable by older people, but the show very unambiguously is still primarily for young girls. So them investigating serious crimes was never really a possibility. As the other commenter says, it seems like they're going to be opposing some sort of phantom thief organization that I'm guessing is trying to steal something.
If the aesthetic is still remotely interesting to you and you like slice of life/monster of the week stories though IMO you should at least try it out. It's an original anime so there's no knowing how good the writing and story will end up being, but Precure is at its worst still mostly watchable and it generally has pretty good production values for a weekly anime.
PinkiePie___2026-01-11 02:01
Current times are too shitty even the magical girls are escaping into 90s.
Torque-A2026-01-11 03:07
Cure Answer has the perfect opportunity to fix things…
Tomorrow_Big2026-01-11 07:11
Scriptwriter is Isao Murayama, same scriptwriter behind Witchy and Star Twinkle. And there's a pink/purple duo lead front and centre. Yeah I'm pretty sure I know where this is going.
LotsVita2026-01-11 07:33
Yeahh, I’m a bit worried too, then. Director has worked with questionably the two best, and two questionable worst ones. I hope both can at least bring out their best or in failing that, try to improve from where it was off-putting.
egoist-ic2026-01-11 13:23
This statement is confusing, are you trying to say that Maho Girls and Star Twinkle are both good and bad at the same time? I'm of the opinion that those two are the more compelling entries in precure
LotsVita2026-01-11 15:07
I’m talking about Kawasaki Kouji. I looked on MAL, he’s worked on at least 4, albeit just some episode directions. I just checked out this one’s PV and… I’m worried it’s a bit all over the place, but maybe it’s spaced better when it airs? I’m just cautiously optimistic that’s all. But no, Star Twinkle doesn’t have much going for it… although Witchy on the other hand, definitely one of the better ones [I’d say, I do love duos though]. The sequel definitely drives it home too. But I’m getting sidetracked, I’m just curious what the new director and scriptwriter will do. I’m not as obsessed about credits as others, but considering Huggto’s head writer can go on to create what I’d consider one of the best with Waccha PriMagi, I guess there’s more to it.

I feel like I go through a constant cycle of a new Precure getting teased, being hopeful that it might break the cycle, and then it's full announced and its more of the same.
Like *Heartcatch* really was one hell of a drug, and unfortunately *Go! Princess*, *Star Twinkle, HUGtto!, Tropical Rouge,* and *Soaring Sky!* are placed just far enough apart after that that it justifies me repeating the cycle.
It just feels kind of cruel that *Soaring Sky!* could have such a banger and lively cast with an interesting story to boot (even if wildly inconsistent at times, like holy shit why did you spend an entire cour filling a fucking McGuffin gauge?) and then its been fairly middling since then.
Jokes on me, I'm still gonna watch it because I'm in too deep.
Large-Visual-17282026-01-11 13:19
So the girl from 2027 goes back 28 years in time and becomes partners with the girl from 1999?
Anybody else want to point out the obvious plot twist or should I?
Torque-A2026-01-11 16:59
Pokemon 4ever did it decades ago.
Large-Visual-17282026-01-11 17:01
And?
Ok-Lock-43152026-01-11 16:44
Very excited for this season! I have a feeling the writing will be much better than past recent seasons. I mean, for recent seasons, the writing has been okay, even decent sometimes, but mostly okay. I hope the writing this season will lean more towards being more good/decent. The designs and concept already looks/sounds really good/interesting!
gf_for_the_weekend2026-01-11 18:05
i love the designs, super cute, the story seems just okay, this might be the first precure i watch
nighty_amy2026-01-12 17:24
Pochitan being voiced by Hondo Kaede absolutely isn't suspicious, not at all 🤣
