>"As with any scene, the outcome can differ dramatically depending on who draws it. That's why it's so important to decide who will draw what from the outset."
This is so important and the reason why Demon Slayer became so impactful. For a bunch of other anime, their schedule are poor to abysmal and they don't have this option so its just get whoever to do whatever.
I'm not a big fan of some of the 3d integration like others are. The debris, smoke, some explosions, and some creatures are things I wish would not be 3d but that's just how the studio and the team operate.

While it has its flaws, this was such a good theatrical experience. A true melodramatic action epic for the audience to enjoy. It felt like watching a PPV at times, haha.

I found it funny how the Oscars felt the need to emphasize the 2D animation when that is a given in the anime industry.
mastesargent2026-01-11 06:21
3D anime is a thing
Zeph-Shoir2026-01-11 06:28
Yes, but it is not the standard.
Own-Jelly-86602026-01-11 16:24
Well, there are a lot of anime fans who think 3D is far more used than it actually is, specially when the subject is ufotable, I often see people complaining or praising them for their use of 3D when talking about something that was hand-drawn.
Anyway, I think they emphasized it because outside of the anime industry 3D dominates.

Sony is really pushing for Demon Slayer to be nominated for Best Animated Feature.
This-is_CMGRI2026-01-11 13:23
why though? Not that I hate it, but can't Sony have both this and KPop Demon Hunters on the Oscar nominations?
amd_hunt2026-01-11 11:54
Please god let this beat KPop Demon Hunters for best animated picture it would be so fucking funny
youravgindian2026-01-11 13:51
Funny for a minute. But it will just tarnish the already tarnished notoriety of Oscars. Giving an oscar to a movie that has 60+ episodes of backlog versus an original movie that is as popular if not more, in hindsight is pretty fucking stupid, ngl.

Really funny how anime fans who never wade outside of their media bubble to see what the rest of the world has to offer to animation will say with their whole chest that their franchise film (that's really just a long format TV episode) deserves the award that they repeatedly tell you is worthless anyway.
batmax252026-01-11 18:57
A movie sequel to a show shouldn't be excluded bc it's a continuation of something else. And the usage of popularity as an important metric for who should win is ridiculous.
I don't think the demon slayer slayer should win. But it doesn't deserve to win due to its own merits as a movie, not bc of factors like popularity or connection to other media. Lord of the Rings: Return of the king was a franchise film that swept the oscars and I don't see many people complaining about it (at least today)
Edit: and anime fans do have legitimate reasons to dislike the animated categry. Voters have gone on record about how they don't watch all the [films](https://www.cartoonbrew.com/awards/academy-voters-dont-watch-the-animated-features-they-vote-on-and-the-academy-is-fine-with-that-170670.html), or [this article](https://www.cartoonbrew.com/award-season-focus/proof-that-oscar-voters-are-clueless-about-animation-109456.html) where a voter in 2015 is quoted as saying:
"I only watch the ones that my kid wants to see, so I didn’t see [The] Boxtrolls but I saw Big Hero 6 and I saw [How to Train Your] Dragon [2]. We both connected to Big Hero 6 — I just found it to be more satisfying. The biggest snub for me was Chris Miller and Phil Lord not getting in for [The] Lego [Movie]. When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office — for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin’ Chinese fuckin’ things that nobody ever freakin’ saw [an apparent reference to the Japanese film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, as well as the Irish film Song of the Sea]? That is my biggest bitch. Most people didn’t even know what they were! How does that happen? That, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen."
murakami2132026-01-12 02:37
Popularity isn't a measure for whether a movie is Oscar worthy.
BeckQuillion892026-01-12 23:48
Yeah. Its on quality which Kpop demon hunter had in spades
No_Name0_02026-01-11 15:06
No wonder every shot looked beautiful af even for this series standard. I would watch a whole documentary showing how this movie was made. Wonder how they'll handle the next two which are even crazier

They finally fixed it lol
