If you haven't watched it, you should give it a try if you have some time.
The movie is honestly incredible. Not just for its direction or animation. But the story touches several themes, several aspect of life, and it goes beyond a simple 100m. The main character is also really endearing and relatable.
And if you already did track and field in the past, it will hit way too close to home.
ExpiringMilknCheese2026-01-11 15:39
Watched it yesterday. This is the best movie of 2025, and it’s tough because I loved CSM Reze
Oxu902026-01-11 15:45
Ans we know it won't likely bw evwn nominated for next years Ceunchyroll awards :(
I am hoping more people would watch it.
Nettysocks2026-01-11 16:02
Well it’s hard to be nominated when it had such a limited screen and comes out on streaming so late in the year, anything like that always suffers.
Though people should really stop putting the CR awards on such a pedestal
Oxu902026-01-11 16:19
It gets lots of views and now there is live event in which audience industry people. So i would like to see deserved get regonition instead of some random popular show that people have voted just because it is only one they know
In last awards show was awarded best that if you have watched even couple episodes you would know it has no right to be there. It was embarassing
Nettysocks2026-01-11 17:19
There’s some good podcasts out there tab explain how the voting process works, I’d encourage you to go look it up, but the tldr is it’s pretty impossible to expect the hundreds of panelist’s to of watched every single show that came out in the year or finished the ones that finished late.
Oxu902026-01-11 17:31
I wish they would watch even SOME, like wothvmy one example, they clearly did not watch any.
The panelists should be industry professionals
Nettysocks2026-01-11 17:38
That’s part of the problem, what is an industry professional for anime? Is it YouTubers? Is it people working in the marketing departments? Studio staff?
When and how are they going to have the time to watch every show? How do you decide wha is worth watching for potential nomination? Will they have stuck in a room for a month and be made to watch what they missed even when they have an actual job to do to pay the bills?
It’s not as simple as it seems.
Ok_Carob_32782026-01-11 17:40
What meaning do Crunchyroll’s awards actually have?
Winning a prize there doesn’t make the original manga sell more, nor does it boost DVD or Blu-ray sales. In the end, becoming popular in Japan or receiving recognition and awards there is far more important.
Ichyio2026-01-11 16:31
let me remind you that Orb wasn't even nominated for anything in 2025 and they probably will not even get mention for the 2026.
Dude, you don't even need to bother with the great story of the anime or the amazing characters if you want it, the OP is just a great fucking song and they just didn't even bother to mention it.
CR Awards is fucking trash because at the end of the day, it is a popularity contest ( Solo Leveling is good, but S1 is trash and people who voted on it was because they like S2 of the anime, but the awards were about the S1 ), but they butcher so many good animes that deserve recognition that it really pisses me off.
But hey, at least when it aired, Odd Taxi got nominated.
Nettysocks2026-01-11 17:17
Yep I know all that.
Orb also wasn’t a finished show at the time it ended this year so it couldn’t be nominated which makes sense, but it’s also suffers from ending in the awkward time at end of year so it leaves the minds of people.
I’ve listened to some people who were part of the nominations, so I can see why what wins wins, the panelist’s are plenty, and stuff like Solo is also a show that’s quick and easy to finish.
Majority of them are YouTubers, which makes sense, but they also end up having to watch shows for their videos that they are trying to get watched, and a video about Solo is going to end up garnering more views given it’s the big thing.
There’s a million reasons why it’s hard to do award shows for anything, even some video games that ended up being great this year don’t get nominated because they take so long to finish and can’t be completed before the nomination process, you of course can’t force every single panelist to watch all the hundreds of shows that come out in a year.
You can’t make a fair process for anything awards shows unless you have a select panel that entire being is about watching every single thing.
There isn’t a single awards that does it in the ideal way, I also don’t think they can.
Anyone should mostly ignore any awards, their ultimately quite meaningless
Ichyio2026-01-11 18:20
The biggest problem with "Orb wasn't finished" theory is that BLUE BOX finished March 27th and was nominated for best romance. Orb finished airing in in March 15th and was not. You can see for yourself here
[https://myanimelist.net/anime/52215/Chi\_Chikyuu\_no\_Undou\_ni\_Tsuite](https://myanimelist.net/anime/52215/Chi_Chikyuu_no_Undou_ni_Tsuite)
and I know that CR Awards are trash, the problem is that they are full of inconsistencies and literally gatekeeping "casuals" to only watching the same "big" thing. It's like only recommending people to go to the cinema to watch fucking Marvel or Avatar, it's just dumb. There are a lot of other movies that need that recognition and imo are better than what is "big" atm.
edit: grammar
Nettysocks2026-01-11 18:29
They nominated BB? I thought a show has to have ended by a certain date before nominations? I guess not.
Well even more reason to again not care about any awards shows since none can get it right. I do wonder if there are any ‘awards’ that can get it right.
I assume the problem is the people they get to vote for shows in the first place, there are quite a big list of them, but if only a handful watch Orb then it’s not going to get nominated, but of course I’d say that since they don’t vote for the show I wanted.
Idk how you fix the Cr awards, since they can’t force all their panelist’s to watch everything that should be considered.
EmmaTheNewfie2026-01-11 15:52
Great overall movie. Reminded me when I was a sprinter all those years ago. Brought back some of those feelings again
BeckQuillion892026-01-11 18:15
100%. that scene of going out on to the track in the rain, stretching while walking up, and then getting to the blocks will resonate with anyone whose been a sprinter
6 years after stopping in college, and you never quite forgot that feeling and still remember that muscle twitch.
GokaiRed642026-01-11 15:58
Awesome movie. Made me wish I had a passion for anything.
Loeffellux2026-01-11 16:04
isn't the message of the movie that it's not being passionate about any given thing but more or less giving your all in general that ends up being more rewarding than anything else?
I'm sure there is something in your life that if you devoted yourself to it for the next month your life would be better.
AlexeiFraytar2026-01-12 00:56
You kinda need passion to give your all lmao. Devoting yourself to something you dont really like just devolves into burnout.
Loeffellux2026-01-12 13:03
I mean, eventually burn out will become inevitable, sure. But under regular circumstances you should be able to devote yourself to a specific cause for a while even if it is not at all your passion. Taking breaks afterwards is mandatory but doesn't take away from the satisfaction of a job well done.
Familiar_Cabinet44332026-01-12 05:50
There perspectives says it all . You can think that you are seeing the world through komiya's view , who really thought nothing of running and it didn't matter to him . He had no purpose in life and just ran as he was supposed to . Still even at the end he found the essence of life , I bet you will too . All the runners had different perspectives to the question " why " and " how " . You can find an answer to that aswell .
GokaiRed642026-01-12 06:20
But what if all your life you were the best because you were told to and now you realize you never really wanted to be the best but don't know what you want either? What if you no longer had energy to even find a motivation?
Familiar_Cabinet44332026-01-14 04:59
It is your life. You choose what to do . The life is about exploring emotions and living through them , accepting them . Also , it is not about being best at something , but rather about knowing what gives you peace and happiness , what makes you feel like you found the reason or purpose of your life . And about energy to find motivation , I can guarantee one thing , when one finds the right thing and takes it with the right mind , energy comes by itself
honeybobok2026-01-11 16:16
From the author of orb.
Goat
Sweet-Message11532026-01-11 16:51
from the same mind as Orb : On the Movements of the Earth..... it'd have been shocking if it wasn’t a good story
ac1elyyy2026-01-11 17:09
I can’t believe I watched this twice in cinemas when it was out in November, one of my favourite movies of all time has the greatest experience watching such a life changing piece of media.
Alkafer2026-01-11 17:10
I feel this movie is something I will rewatch several times over the years like Ping Pong The Animation, In this Corner of the World, Wolf Children, Your Name, it has that distinct feeling that I love and never get tired of.
SpecsKingdra2026-01-11 17:29
Feel like I'm crazy reading the comments lol, my wife and I watched it and we both thought it was fine. Great animation and a good message tho
DsmackJack2026-01-14 03:50
Oh thank God there is someone else on this sub not getting down voted to shit who feels this way. I can get behind the themes of the movie and there were some great scenes, but it really bothered me that a large chunk of the thematic content of the movie was given through characters giving completely unasked for monologues about their life and their world view.
St_Walker28142026-01-16 17:29
That’s just the kind of story it is, it’s more of a character study than plot-focused. The whole point is to display the mindsets that can be developed in 25 years spent on the track. It resonates with many people who’ve competed, especially in track and field
DsmackJack2026-01-16 21:58
Trust me, I absolutely understand the thematic content of the movie. It has very applicable themes to any sport or craft that people can dedicate their lives to. I go to one of the most competitive jazz colleges in my country and am surrounded by people who want to be one of the greats (and some of the have played music with the greats). Thematically it resonates with me. I am saying that the way that the themes are presented did not resonate with me. Don't get me wrong I love movies with good dialogue! Ignmar Bergman is a favorite director and Stalker is one of my favorite movies and it's literally just dudes talking the whole time. My issue is that I just did not feel connected to the dialogue, even if the themes themselves connected with me. You can make a movie about the pursuit of greatness and it's pitfalls and how it is applicable to everyone's lives without making that point almost purely through random monologues. Whiplash, ping pong the animation, and now Marty Supreme exist.
I understand it's a character movie, I was not expecting it to be a plot-driven movie at all because it was very clear off rip what the movie was going to be. No shade to anyone who loves this movie, I just personally wish the themes would have gotten across in different ways.
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-11 17:36
Interesting film. I love what Kenji Iwaisawa did stylistically but my main issue is all that talk about sacrificing os much of your life for something rings hollow when we aren't shown what exactly they sacrificed?
BamBodyShot2026-01-11 20:23
We’re not?
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-13 12:15
Yes, we get nothing outside of his life as a track athlete
True-Blood47272026-01-11 18:02
Every thing about movie is awesome but
Please tell me result of last race
And why movie end at middle of race
BamBodyShot2026-01-11 20:23
It’s not about the result and the reasoning for it to end before they reach the finish line is because it is about finding joy in the in the sprint rather than the finish line itself, this is much deeper than running and that’s why they both had a smile on their face
tronistica2026-01-11 18:39
I’m glad this movie is getting recognition. When I saw in the theaters, it was just me and only one other person, so I thought it bombed.
EyeDeeAh_422026-01-11 18:46
Glad to see this news! I'm looking forward to whatever Uoto writes next, I love his stories so much.
94Temimi2026-01-11 19:51
Uoto has my undying trust in anything he does in the future. Orb became one of my all-time top10 and this movie is a visual and storytelling masterpiece.
The man knows how to make you dig deep into your own self to explore who you really are while also marvelling at the way his characters navigate through the worlds he's built for them.
BamBodyShot2026-01-11 20:19
This movie means so much to me as someone struggling with mental health, I love every second and I’ve actually watched it a 2nd time already. My biggest takeaway if you’re dealing with any mental health issues is that you must keep your eyes wide open and continue to move forward like Kaido said. Even if the finish line isn’t visible, you will reach that line one day.
m5signorini2026-01-11 21:40
Awesome movie! I found funny how Kaido looked somewhat similar to Nowak from Orb (peak anime by the same author) while both being voiced by Tsuda Kenjirou
darkmacgf2026-01-11 22:16
100m disappointed me after all the hype. I liked Orb quite a bit more.
KariforuniaJin2026-01-11 22:49
Deserved.
This movie is amazing!
PhaseExtra11322026-01-12 00:21
I had this passion for running as a kid. My parents didn’t support the hobby even though I was good. It’s really hard and also very emotional to watch this. Really impacted me a ton. Maybe I should go buy some running shoes
