Out of the rest of the ridiculousness, it didn't really feel that crazy.
you'd never forget that for the rest of your life
In fact the pacing of this whole episode screams rush adaptation.
It makes sense.
The fat guy was never a real antagonist, it was even more egregious than how they default to the sexual predator pest-archetype on Sword Art Online for all the major antagonists. Just a lazy way to attempt to get viewers to care about a random female lead, and support the male lead in 'saving the damsel'.
I kinda enjoy the Lacus Clyne callback to Gundam SEED with this songstress who apparently is going to become a big deal in terms of the MC's overall influence over the public within this fictional empire. The hat she wears is pretty stylish.
MC: OK.
This author is so lazy.
He carries around enough money to buy a theater, but that apparently wouldn't have been enough for the works-for-no-one-but-him ring.
But his brother still offers to spring for it just because.
So, definitely lazy, but not because the merchant wants to make a lot of money.
It's nice to see that Henry and Oscar might actually be decent older brothers, but I can also see a chance of them having ulterior motives.
And with so many brothers, that probably seems completely insane to do because you either have forces split like crazy as various groups back various brothers, or you have alliances between brothers where you might be stabbed in the back at any moment.
And even if they win - any brother not involved might then be able to get support and then trounce your beaten up and thinned down forces that thought the fighting was done.
The map from beginning just straight up part of the Qing empire.
The emperor—— Emperor Kangxi
Our protagonist Noah Ararat (13th prince) —— Aisin-Gioro Yinxiang, the younger brother and political ally of Emperor Yongzheng. He was renowned for his loyalty, wisdom, kindness and diligence.
Albert (2nd prince & Crown Prince)\_——Aisin-Gioro Yunreng
Henry (4th prince)\_—— Aisin-Gioro YinZhen
Oscar (8th prince)\_——Aisin-Gioro Yunsi
Common thing you see is that every single person is put in two groups: allies and enemies. There is no inbetween. Allies all suck up to the main character, enemies make the concept of 'cartoonish villians' sound like a knock off of 'xianxia villians'.
Then the next moment lil bro was walking the street by himself, and another character comments on it but nothing comes of it or is ever explained, just what. It's a "when the author wants it" form of attention to detail I guess
And a noble deciding to peruse the city fits perfectly with that - no one requested he come, he decided, so it's acceptable.
It's all about maintaining who is in charge and who is above who. As long as he wasn't behaving in a manner that was unbecoming of a noble, he was fine - and nobles wanting to check things out for themselves happened **a lot** throughout history.
But it reminds me of Myne walking around with the blue robe, it screams "kidnap me"
Even if the little dude in question is strong enough to fight off anybody that'd try something, it's weird that nobody tried anything, and weird that the older brother approves of him having no guards, etc. etc.
...that being said, I'll probably still watch this because I love bad anime...
There was a comment in the ep 1 thread about the author growing up in Taiwan and basing this on the 13th prince in a Chinese imperial drama. I really shouldn't draw parallels, but it kind of makes sense with the way some things resolve so quickly.
Gotta say I like the ED a lot though, nostalgic.
I only watched this for Azusa Tachibana’s part as the singer but it’s just not worth it.
Only exception so far is kinda the reincarnated aristocrat show because the mc is how a kid should be in terms of power.
I get this show is rather stupid but the fat guy actively going after the little shit and trying to kill him was beyond stupid. Also people going on stage over and over is stupid as well.
This show is bad even by the standards of these shit little kid being op shows.
I should've trusted my gut on the two eye colors being a red flag for bad writing.
I hope they release a full version of that insert song she sang near the beginning of the episode.
Spending more time than it's probably worth, I checked the op and the merchant and his adopted daughter don't seem to be anywhere so I assume they won't be major characters.
However, until the Eminence in Shadow comes back I must endure this bad cringe so the good cringe feels even better.
Also, what's with all the palace maids being ridiculously hot and dressing like they work at a sexy maid cafe (well, minus the one that is clearly a child so I'm glad they didn't go that far)?? I mean, I get appealing to a certain demographic but let's try to have some class/dignity - especially in a show that takes itself so seriously lol. Even 8th Prince has their bombshell maid character dress in a full-length maid outfit (sure it gets ripped in convenient ways more often than not, but they at least start out with some modesty! Lol). Speaking of 8th Prince, I thought they were gonna yank straight from it and have the silver-haired maid in this be a sword-saint as well but I'm glad they didn't go that far...at least not yet, we are still just on episode 2 lol.
This episode flew by tho and felt like I was missing story beats when it moved from one plot point to the next. Also, what's with the power system? I see everything is F for him, and he gets the pluses from followers, yeah, but how is he so OP at everything already when he should only be OP with water magic or whatever? And again, he gets bonuses from his followers, but why do they only add to the Water stat? The whole status screen/power system so far just feels a bit tacked on and not very well thought out IMO.
Also, what's the deal with singing oneechan? Like sure she's cute and has a nice voice, but so what? I'm hoping there's a payoff to her character otherwise I feel we are wasting too much time with her. Also also, how the hell does that venue not have security to keep people off the stage - especially after homegirl was attacked the first time? ...this world is ridiculous man lol/smh
I'll probably finish this cause I do love me some trash anime and just laughing at all the ridiculousness so at least I found that in this. Let's just hope it doesn't become terribly unbearable - I say that but I'm also the type of trash-lover who finished the TBATE powerpoint presentation and enjoyed it for all the wrong reasons 😅😈. I'm hoping that what I was looking for in this I think I'll find in Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord - just hope that lives up to its potential!
That's because he *is* using water magic or rather the water magic of his sword he got last episode.
A flood happens in his maids territory so he decides to go there, he's also just been given a cursed sword by his eldest brother as some kind of threat/test. He handles the flood and cursed sword as well as discovers embezzlement from the local noble. King praises him.
It's basic but it all connects logically (in an anime kind of way)
This episode has none of that. He wants more talented subordinates so he goes and gets a songstress? Apparently this place (I guess it's a slave traders, I must have missed that but I saw someone else comment it) just lets random assholes threaten and abuse their singers? Then he leaves after listening to her sing and I feel like a blacked out cause he's now going to a random nobles house (with his sword on his waste for some reason? Even though we've been explicitly shown that he doesn't have to have it visible) His sword nearly kills the entire room cause one guy made a joke about the sword probably being a fake. Then he sits on a chair and has everyone come up to greet him where he gets oddly confrontational with a random noble for adopting a former slave as his daughter (an objectively cool thing to do, assuming he is doing it cause he genuinely just realized how talented she is) Then i've blacked out again and it's the market scene and lets be real less said about that the better.
The point is NONE OF IT ACTUALLY CONNECTS!
Yea sure the "lenders" are floating around the peripheral of the story but they could not be less of a threat. In fact if we are being real, the MC could have solved the problem immediately by just buying the slave girl (if she is a slave) and hiring her to work somewhere officially. The problem is she is singing at a place that apparently does not give a shit about it's customers or it's workers. In fact if I understood it correctly this is exactly what HE DOES AT THE END!
Oh and side note to this rant, the voice actor and the MC seem exactly as bored as the viewer should be. I cannot point to a single time they actually expressed an emotion that wasn't "I'm just hear for the paycheck" customer service levels of enthusasim.
The worth of money isn't really making any sense. He's paying that singer 25 rean a month and buys the whole place for 1000 rean? The girl could buy the whole place herself for 3 years and 4 months worth of salary.
Other than that, this show is trash. Not the fun trash either, just boring old trash. Kinda disappointing. I'll give this one more episode.
Last time I can think of where the sound recording was this bad was that reincarnated from a dragon show a year or two back, and that was isolated to a few episodes near the end (and also not every scene had these issues).
This is the first time I've ever seen it be *this* bad, even the covid-era issues were usually individual VA's not having a good setup to record sound, but with this it's EVERYONE.
It WAS funny how his brother was all like "Bro, this thing you paid 3 gold for is worth 1k gold!" right in front of the poor dude who only got 3 gold for it.
What a sorry excuse for a sorcerer's soul if it only added a +F to his wind stat.
<Creates giant water spout half a block in diameter in the middle of the busy market street.> "It's OK, I aimed it upwards."
Sure it was only a +F, but still a waste.
"Bro, we know that powerful cursed items exist, and we don't know what kind of magic this ring may or may not have, but try it on!"
MC could've simply hired the singer for real and had her sing in establishments with better clientele, or even just for him in the palace, rather than buying that whole place....
This show is boring now, dropped.
Like I don't think pink hair brother is the one trying to kill him (Honestly I lost track of what brother is trying to do what) But it certainly looks that way, especially with his creeper ass suddenly 'bumbing' into him on the road and dragging him over to Cursed Item Alley lol.
I was surprised they had the kindly merchant who rescued the slave girl at the palace be called Byron Alan and I really wonder if he was a shoutout to the American comedian Byron Allen. You'd think Japanese people wouldn't know English language stand up comedians and TV presenters but maybe the mangaka loved Comics Unleashed 🤣
When Noah said the bald lender was done for, I'm taking that to mean he was killed. They really shied away from showing it for some reason and left it ambiguous, unlike the last episode where the relief funds thief got his head chopped off.
When Noah asked the music hall owner to not let those types of people in anymore like the rude guys who were flirting with the singer, I'm not sure exactly how he'd enforce that, like how do you know who would cause trouble if you don't know them. Good thing Noah maybe figured that out and bought it and my guess is he's just going to hire better security to keep people from causing trouble.
Anyway, unlike most other people in this comment section, I like this kind of series, the one that people call boring power-trip isekai anime. As long as the plot isn't too weird or illogical or too much nonsense, then what's wrong with it being boring.
I watch and enjoy anime to escape the harsh reality of life, then what's the point of watching reality-related situations in anime, discrimination and hatred in anime? To add spices and whatnot in our life? I would rather live in my own small world and enjoy my boring life instead of having my heart and brain hurt for unnecessary things, it's not good for my health after all. And I might get affected by the negativity.
Anyway, looking forward to the next episode!
Would the MC pull out a sword from her chest in the future?
Plus he triggers a grimoire going crazy, summoing a massive spirit, and banishes the spirit over hte course of like... 30 seconds? He doesn't even keep the stat boost either since the spirit was destroyed. It literately added nothing to the story. I did get a kick out of the fact that the animators did not give a shit about this scene either as one of the guys in the background is just frozen in the same posture of stretching for the entire scene until the clouds clear and then he just disappears as a bunch of other pedestrians that weren't previously there suddenly start clapping.
I propse this anime should be re-titled "... And then everybody clapped!"
Great show btw go watch it instead of this trash.
That tome costed 3 Rean. No one knew it was special. Even if you say it costs $50, which is a very liberal estimate, that means that guy sold his business for less than $17,000 by our standards. That is a far cry from being worth uprooting your stable income.
It also seems that Rean is indivisible. That would mean that book was incredibly cheap. No one is buying bread for $17. That’s like saying anything and everything is $17 minimum, which doesn’t make sense. This dude sold his business for $1000 or less if Rean really is indivisible.
I'm comparing this to Arisocrat's Otherworldly Adventure, which has a very similar set up, but at least it's actually fun. That show also has a maid character the MC is attached to, but they give her actual character, and she participates in the humor. This show, the maid does nothing, she got saved by the MC in EP 1 and then... is a maid.
Another show this season even with a similar set up Easygoing Territory Defense, also has a maid who is attached to the MC and the fans of the source love her.
This show, characters don't have any personality, the author didn't even see the need to give them any.
