Which anime gave you the worst case of Post-Anime Depression Syndrome? I don't just mean a case of "I'm sad it's over", I mean you watched it over and over until you burnt out and now it hurts to think about it because if you do, you might fall back into that hole again and think about nothing else?
Mine is Yuri on Ice. When I first watched it, I became so obsessed that I rewatched it like 6 consecutive times, replaying certain scenes over and over. It CONSUMED me. Like I was full on ACHING over it. I loved it so much, and yet I also felt terrible. Like I broke up with someone and though I still loved them, I couldn't have them anymore. I spent all my spare time on it for months.
I've rewatched it several times since that initial hyper-fixation period, but I still have to be careful when I rewatch it, in case I get stuck in the cycle again. If I rewatch it at the wrong time, I might devote TOO much time and mental energy to it and forget about all my other responsibilities. Even something simple like hearing the theme song makes my stomach sink with the ghost of that depressive "there's no more" feeling.

Hell, I'm wearing a shirt of it right this second.
I can't even get to the part where they get the dead girl back from the dragons stomach.
"Each day that passes it's harder to get our friend back!"
-Takes forever to actually get back and makes detours eating food with absolutely no concern for time passage.
Plus thats like barely a fraction of my enjoyment, when the story has amazing characters and stellar worldbuilding. I can make a minor leap. Far more of a leap I can take for something like Solo Leveling and the like.
Honorable mention goes to this [cool ost](https://youtu.be/Yon2rn2GhTw?si=s1D_vq30FGgxRNWA)
[Clannad - Memento ~ Nagisa: Parting at the Foot of the Hill - Warm](https://youtu.be/IqwcVkKzFQ0)
This OST, gets less mention but is for me the biggest tearjerker.
Also mentioning u/lord_ne and u/Betelgeuse-35
Meanwhile I’m sitting there sniffling to myself, barely holding it together.
That shit still gets me after 18 years.
A teenager watching it is not going to have the same sentiment about it as, say, a 25 year old. And someone in their 20s will see it in a different light than someone like me, who watched it in their 40s.
Thats the point about Nana, though. Its about the journey and the stupid and smart mistakes we make along the way. We all view those mistakes through a different lense.
I loved it!
It has been my answer ever since i saw it the first time, it was also the first time i truly experienced "pads".
It took me something like 2 weeks to get over it while trying to find something to fill the hole.
**I** literally lost the desire and fun to watch anime for two weeks. appreciate it more and more as time goes by. Seen ending about 7 times and it cracks me up every time still.
Angel Beats! made me overwhelmed an depressed and I usually listened to the ending song many times. But the most depressing was after finishing the game Persona 5, not a series but anime game, it took me months to come out of it.
It's still probably my favorite comedy to this day, and I love how rewatchable it is. You could pick it up at any moment and feel like you're immediately caught up. Community of fans is really active too surprisingly, glad it got popular.
You have to get over the localised Americanisms though (unfortunately they refer to famous American people but I've no idea who these people are)..
It is hilarious though
“Grandpa and Grandma turn young again” hurt when that ended, not rewatched
“Higehero” is another one, despite its nice ending
It's easy to sit and watch in one sitting, and it is so fucking good. I've seen it so many damn times and the ending still gets me choked up.

I didnt say it but this actually reads as insane to me. I dont get this way. But should I not still be allowed to watch and enjoy a show when it airs???
Its not changing my life, and I doesnt effect my emotional regulation. but I still *like* it. Why consume it? Because it entertaining???
>Can't retain the info past a week
Your original post gave no indication you enjoyed it.
By all means, keep watching if you do enjoy it.
I actually got on bad mental for days after reading it.
I felt sort of numb and with bad feelimg in my chest that was hard to name
A friend said it was called Anguish and I got angry at all people who use the word " Angst " because actual anguish was very bad
The first one was Guilty Crown... That anime really has stuck with me. AnoHana, was my first Romcom tragedy so of course it goes to the list.
But I have only rewatched two animes in my life... Your Lie in April, and No Game No Life. Guess no need to explain it more right? But No Game No Life is on my list cuz it was emitted just in a time when I needed something like it to keep myself moving forward. Of course that one didn't make me cry, but the smile I had after watching the last chapter, is similar if not bigger than when I full read Fate Stay Night (original one).
I need more.
Never rewatched because I couldn’t handle it? Your Lie in April, Platic memories
Cowboy bebop and Attack on Titan are probably my favorite series, I don’t think I was sad when they ended tho. After watching the final scenes of the AoT credits, pretty sure I was so floored that I just sat there and processed for the next hour. I may have been sad for some of the characters but I don’t think was sad that the story was over. I like stories that have a clear and definite ending, as opposed to shows that milk their popularity for 100s of episodes (lookin at you, One Piece.) it’s only at the end of a story that you can step back and look at it as a whole and try to determine what message the creator was actually trying to send.
That said, I was kinda sad recently when My Hero Academia ended. Seeing the conclusion to its plot was never the reason I was watching. Idk that it should have gone on longer, but if it did i would’ve been happy. It would have meant more time that I could spend in a familiar world with characters that I like. Also, the way that family and camaraderie, as well as the importance of perseverance and finding a role in society, is highlighted in that show is really inspiring. Id finish an episode wishing I had friends and a purpose like that. Thats true of other shows too, and it could just be recency bias, but it seems like there’s something special about the emotional beats in MHA.
Thankfully, vigilantes just started back up. Heres hoping that’ll fill the void 🤞
I am sad *and* glad that we got that ending, no BS, not stretching it for the money just... Absolute cinema! Lol
[Cowboy Bebop spoilers] >!The video of her past, isn't sad. If anything its hopeful and cheerful. But knowing the context that every single person in that room (not Ed) has essentially lost all their childhood whimsy is harsh. Without stating it we the audience see this child gleaming and know this child wouldn't be happy with the person she became. All that whimsy and joy gone on the journey to adulthood. Its brutal but not in a "make the saddest thing ever to make you cry" type of way. Its subtle and as I've gotten older fuck it hits harder and harder every time. !<
I don't think it's post-anime depression as you meant it, tough. Indeed, I don't want to watch it again, at the moment. For the sake of my health.
1. Crest of the Stars // Sekai no Senki series
2. Hikaru no Go
3. Maison Ikkoku
4. Nadia: Secret of Blue Water
5. Rurouni Kenshin
Boku no Hero Vigilantes.
I have no idea why but I became attached to the characters and story.
I think I have seen it more than 10 times now
- Koi Kaze
- Inuyasha
- Elfen Lied
- Mahoutsukai no Yome (just the first season)
- Kodomo no Jikan
- Happy Sugar Life
- Aku no Hana
There are a few others I've rewatched a similar number of times but have less of a dramatic impact upon me in that sense both during and afterward.
The ones which fit for me tend to be transgressive romance, often with some elements of horror, tragedy, and/or melancholy.
That... was fucking hard.
In terms of "god why is it over already I need more!" - Mushoku Tensei. Story got me so hooked that I went looking for novels and ended up binging all 26 in 3 weeks. Still have that feeling, waiting for S3 and 2 best arcs.
It was not until I watched Onimai in 2023 and Hidamari Sketch later that year that I reached this feeling again.
And when I finished Hidamari Sketch, I again am sort of left to get an anime as good as this (which is also why I procrastinated watching the final 2 episodes). At least every season from Spring this year onwards had/has many awesome CGDCT/slice of life to somewhat fill the void.
The depression was so bad that I couldn't really even get into it when the sidestory started being translated. Still haven't read Hannelore. I'm hoping that the new season in spring can spark that back for me!
