What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [January 11th, 2026]
Title says it all - talk about the anime you watched this past week that are not a part of this Winter 2026 season (like **Shibou Yuugi de Meshi wo Kuu** or **Tamon-kun Ima Docchi!**), or a show that's continuing from previous seasons (like **Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider**).
With regards to Fall 2025 shows, however, it would be fine to write about them as long as you only began them after they finished airing. For example, it's fine to talk about watching **One Punch Man 3** or **Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka** if you started them after the final episode aired. Obviously, use your best judgement on this.
**Please use spoiler tags**; it's super simple stuff. An example below:

Also got something else started too.

**Yu-Gi-Oh! GX**, episodes 61-63
E-Hero Neos is finally here!
[](#teekyuuhype)
**D.Gray-man**, episodes 93-99
[These characters cannot catch a break.](#panic)
Also, feels kinda weird to think I’m almost done with the OG show now.
**One Piece**, episodes 9-17 + **One Piece: Defeat the Pirate Ganzack!**
I thought the Ganzack OVA was a neat little side story despite the different look/VAs. Norio Wakamoto going full villain is never a bad time.
As for the show itself, a lot of this chunk was dedicated to Usopp's introduction, and that certainly worked for me. Usopp is a good dude.
**Earth Maiden Arjuna**, episodes 1-3
[](#hardthink)
So far I'm finding this show somewhat frustrating. June keeps getting thrown into situations with her only guideline being “lol good luck”, then she gets chastised for not fighting properly (or even fighting at *all*) and not understanding anything when she literally asked for answers and no one will give her anything??? I don't get it.
The music is incredible though, and Tokio is great. If something bad happens to him, I will be very upset.
**Jigokuraku**, episodes 9-13
[Season 2 hype now!](#hypeeyes)
**Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun**, episodes 1-3
Me earlier this week: Alright, I finally finished all the wallpapers for the Jigokuraku rewatch, I can go have fun checking out Iruma-kun's dub in preparation for *that* rewatch now!
Iruma-kun's dub: Oh btw, Alice is voiced by Billy Kametz.
Me: ...and just like that, I am no longer having fun. [](#trynottocry)
He's not the only dead voice actor that I get immensely sad about whenever I hear pop up in an older series, but I've gone a lot longer since the last time I heard him in something compared to, say, Keiji Fujiwara, so that immediately hit me like a Truck-kun to the gut. I also didn't look up the English cast beforehand, so I wasn't mentally prepared to hear him in this… [](#shatteredsaten)

[That’s all for this week~](#michaelwink)
[Tune in next time for most likely]>!more of all these shows (including starting on Hallow for D.Gray-man), although probably less of One Piece and YGO GX while I have to do as much Iruma-kun prep as I can.!<
**Super Dimensional Century Orguss Episodes 14 - 20** - Kinda hard to believe I'm already past the halfway point with this as it sure doesn't feel like we've gotten 20 episodes of plot. Although to be fair I think we have gotten more plot movement with this week's episodes than any before. Some interesting stuff like [Orguss]>!That enemy commander guy is Olson, Kei's old friend! Athena is actually his daughter! Which resulted in a rather weird dynamic as I felt Kei was kinda flirty with her. Poor Slay goes down kamikaze style. The Emaan essentially have two factions with one of them wanting to seize Kei, so now we've got both them and the Chiram as enemies.!< This week also provided one of the weirdest and probably poorly written plot occurrences I've seen in a while. [Orguss]>!So the Emaan go through menopause at 17 years old? Is this supposed to be the equivalent of our 17? So the writers are encouraging teenage pregnancies? With it being that young wouldn't there be massive demographic collapse among the Emaan?!<
**ElDlive Episodes 2 - 8** - While the premise isn't the most interesting thing out there (protagonist gets recruited to be part of the "space police") they at least do a fairly good job with giving us a lot of unique alien creatures in this. While Chuta continues to humiliate himself most of the time when Misuzu is around, she has grown on me somewhat because I love deadpan characters and she's absolutely that. Saori Hayami's doing a decent job playing against type here. Chuta should fall for Nina instead, she's perfect! Speaking of voice actors I was wrong on Mamoru's VA from Shin Sekai Yori playing Chuta, it is actually Shun's. Totally feels like [elDlive]>!Dolugh went through a Pokémon-style evolution!<. Kinda hard to believe I'm already 2/3 of the way through this.
**My Dress Up Darling Episodes 1 - 6** - This has been one of those popular anime that I haven't gotten around to and figured I'd finally give it a shot. It does seem very much like the ultimate male wish fulfillment show (although it was written by a woman). The most beautiful girl at school just happens to have an interest that intersects with the protagonist's expertise, lo and behold they become very tight over it. Seems like many anime where you've got a male lead who is somewhat milquetoast personality wise that is massively overshadowed by the far more outgoing female lead. Episode 2 is about as fan servicey an episode of anime I've seen in a very long time. That said, it has kept my interest, Marin absolutely is a lovable character (although perhaps too perfect). Part of me wondered if they'd have Gojo act a bit like the way Sawako is in Kimi ni Todoke (essentially super doubting of himself and massively prone to misunderstandings over whether someone who clearly likes him actually does), but thankfully we haven't gotten that. With the latest episode the story seems to be expanding in some new directions so interested in seeing where it goes from here.
I also rewatched the **Fate Strange Fake Whispers of Dawn and Episode 1** both of which were released a year+ ago now that they've finally released an actual new episode.
I don't think that was the point. [Meta comparison about the Orguss spoiler]>!In real world history there are many cultures in the earlier civilisations that practices early parenthood and "marriages" soon after puberty. I don't believe that show had in any way commented on the age, only the fact that "past that phase the female kinda don't get treated as "feminine"; but it's also not "end of their lives", the core cast showed exactly how it can be still living as "normal"!<
I had to turn to reddit a few times to understand wtf was going on. The battles are certainly spectacular but at times hard to follow and feel more like Cirque du Soleil show than mortal combat. I assume the answer to most of my complaints is the read the VN.
I am now about half way through **Fate/Zero** . In hindsight I think watching FZ first would have been a better experience for me.
Melloi Case Files will be next and I think that will be it for my F/SK education.
You should try reading the V-
> I assume the answer to most of my complaints is the read the VN.
[Never mind](#azusalaugh)
Seirisouly though, yeah, those aspects are the ones that get hurt the most in the adaptations, with Illya's character in particular being HF's biggest casualty in the transition between mediums IIRC (Even more so depending on whether or not you've watched 2006 Stay Night).
You'll probably quite like Hollow Ataraxia if you do ever get to the VN though [](#mugiwait)
I skipped it but maybe I should go back to fill in some blanks.
The key to understanding it with the right mindset/frame of reference is to recognise the 3 routes is arranged to answer the sequential 3 questions. FZ on the other hand is a bolt on / backstory so using that to start would not really do the franchise justice - especially because [FZ meta spoiler]>!Saber's character was severely Flanderised!<
Watched OG Gundam last week.
3 guesses what I'm watching next week.

**There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless… Finale Special**: complete (7/10)
This arc finally focused on Kaho who of course ended up being my favorite. And I got to say I did not see that kind of ending coming.
[Muri ja Nakatta!? Ep 17]>!I really thought the show was gonna go with the Mai ending. It did all the set up for it, but expectations were subverted. Doing the Girlfriend Girlfriend route in front of a big crowd was certainly a shock. Very funny ending for a Yuri anime.!<
___
Got to watching the second part of **Sakamoto Days**. And well, back when I watched the first part I thought it was interesting and could see why it has the good buzz it does, but not enough so for me personally to make it a priority watch when the next part came around. And well, I'd say I was right.
I just thought I had more enjoyment watching the first half and it's whole cast being built than this ever upping cascade of almost cartoonish level stakes raising. I mean am I weird for feeling that all this perpetually escalating over the top action is abjectly fun but not compellingly thrilling?
Not don't get me wrong, I didn't hate this. Far from it, just what I saw put forth here just didn't vibe with me as much as I thought it would. Ah well, it made for some good entertainment. But if and when more of this series comes out, I'm gonna keep it one the same backburner.
Landed on some series called **Fugou Keiji** aka **The Millionaire Detective–Balance: Unlimited** at random. Think like if Bruce Wayne became Batman but without all the subtlety and secret identities and legitimately joined the police. Who can and will literally buy a building for twice it's worth just to blow it up if it means closing the case and getting away with it. And also whipping out department of defense surpassing supertech like it's nothing. But like any good Batman story, they're a huge conspiracy to unravel. And Batman alongside his own person Jim Gordon by the book cop with a chip on his shoulder partner are the ones to do something about it.
And lastly I landed on some short series called **Yume de Aetara** aka **If I See You in My Dreams**. Aka a case of "*This* is how bored I am...". Watching this admittedly good hearted but jittery ass office worker guy pine for the woman he likes (and coincidental friend of some cowokers of his). And it's a whole stream of misunderstandings, never letting one party finish their sentence, or in the case of our MC say or do something in just the wrong way (or done while seen out of context) that makes him come across as the bad guy over and over again. With certain other party's, namely another coworker of his that likes him (good ole love triangle...), that keeps getting in (cliche) trouble that he ends up helping her out of, or inadvertently drags him into. Giving main love interest more of the wrong idea. Constantly flip-flopping from can't deciding whether she likes this guy or giving him the icy death stare.
It's definitely a product of it's time and it's brand of humor wasn't exactly my idea of a great time but at least the short length kept things from overstaying their welcome.
And I’m glad that I did because **Yosuga-hen** is by far my favourite of the seasons of the show. World building is my favourite thing ever in SFF stories and having a full season dedicated to THE biggest event of the series (aka the Blue Night) was needed, highly appreciated, informative and also tragic to watch. Even when most of the cast in this one were technically new to me, I ended up caring about them much more than I expected. And even while I wouldn’t truly ever understand why some things went that far, I still fully understand why all of this happened in the first place. In a bit more [details]>!despite her bubbly personality, Yuri felt like an incredibly lonely character to me. So hearing those words from Satan, makes it clear why she would ever bother with a relationship that toxic (being in love is fine, being both possessive and obsessive of the partner is definitely not) with a literal murderous demon when the MUCH better alternative is a coward with his feelings. I won’t ever agree with the having children part though!< but we wouldn’t have a story otherwise, so that’s just me. I did have a question regarding something Mephisto said about this whole situation that I felt wasn’t explored that well in the season (Maybe I’ll re-pick the manga one day and check or ask someone), but it still doesn’t change how brilliant it was overall.
Finally, I finished watching **Vigilantes: Boku no Hero Academia ILLEGALS** and overall found it about average for me when it came to enjoyment. Mainly due to me expecting it to be much much darker with the whole “Vigilante” in the title than what was presented. Where to be honest, they ended up being law abiding in almost its entirety with the exception of one very specific constant law breaking aspect. I did enjoy the [cameos a lot]>!(Ingenium!< was sadly a bit too mediocre as a hero, but after seeng the “crew” he surrounds himself with I didn’t expect much) and the worldbuilding. Filling in some gaps where the main series didn’t get the chance to was really nice. I didn’t [like]>!C.C!< at all though, and really wished that they focused on the Japanese pro heroes for more cameos than bringing in someone new who happens to be pro as well (as in not an overseas vigilante like them). Hopefully the sequel is better, seemingly with bigger stakes so who knows?
I still have a couple more left like inexpressive Kashiwada and Li'l Miss Vampire
**Umamusume : Cinderella Gray Part 2 (1-10/10)** Umazing. I can see why it was so hyped when it was airing. Oguri has also climbed so high up my fav Uma list. She’s so silly. The races are epic too. Although I do wish some of her rivals got more backstory. And seeing they’re heavily setting up a new character, I’m assuming there’s a new arc in the works.
I do wonder though if this is before Pretty Derby. I don’t think I saw any Spica members
**Minami-ke S3 (8-13/13) + OVA** This season is the most fun so far. Especially as the supporting cast becomes more established and are even mingling around with the other sister’s circle. The last ep where they get clingy with each other was adorable. They butt heads a lot but in the end they really care for each other
**ONGOING**
**Pumpkin Scissors (19-20/24)** [Pumpkin Scissors]>!Ooooh we’re getting some hints of romance between Alice and Oland. Honestly I only see them as Senpai-Kouhai. Maybe a strong sense of admiration from Oland. But seems there might be something more. Though I’m not against it. Also, Lionel is sus as always. He’s definitely associated with the secret organisation!<
**THIS WEEK**
Only left with 4 eps for **Pumpkin Scissors**. Gonna try to complete it this week.
I have a lot of seasonals (against my better judgment) to follow this season. so I doubt I’d have time for 3 concurrent non-seasonals again. That said, I still want to maybe watch something with Adventure Fantasy. I’ve had **Magi** in my list for a long time. And I also want to continue iyashikei weekends. Thinking of rewatching **Mono** or **Barakamon**
Yes by the time the S1 story line started with Special Week, Oguri Cap is already "done" and is just cruising along for the canteen life in the background ;)
I always had Gankutsou recommended but had never heard anything of it besides it being based on the Count of Monte Cristo book. Annnnd, damn, what even is this show.
Its set in like some sci-fi space colony that resembles feudal France? Though actual France also seems to have this feudal vibe. And follows this aristocrat who meets the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo, a literal blue guy that is definitely not some kind of vampire. But his sheer aura captivates the MC who has dickrode him these early episodes, introducing him to his friends and defending any suspicions people have of him.
Outside of this I can't seem to grasp where the show is heading, it is just such an enigmatic show overall.
Most interesting is the general aesthetic. It has that art style where characters clothes and even hair have their own 'background', like some 2000s Shaft anime had. It has this early CGI that is so choppy looking that it somehow manages to work with the backgrounds because they also have a very unique style that is hard for me to describe. Unless the CG is front and center that is like [here](https://i.imgur.com/902hAWh.jpeg).
Who knows what else it has in store.

**Hyakuemu (Movie)**
As usual with movies for me, not enough time to properly connect with the characters. Not helped by the constant timeskips, where some segments feel almost irrelevant to the rest of the movie.
Thinking of the highschool segment where the other classmates fell off relevance after this portion was over. Or never hearing of that pro-runner again in the starting one. Then it would introduce new characters and I would just start wondering if it is someone that already appeared and they just had an image change.
Oh, but the visuals, it is a great looking movie. Interesting how only the first 20 or so minutes are normal 2D but the rest is rotoscoped. Very good looking rotoscoping that doesn't feel off whatsover. And props to that one rain scene.
Impressive looking but narratively not very strong for me.
**Final rating: 6/10**
**Lucky Star Episodes 13–14:** As a long-time fan of KyoAni, I have been waiting for years to start this show but wanted to get a lot of watching experience under my belt so I can better appreciate the many otaku references. In particular, I watched all of _Haruhi Suzumiya_ including the movie, since _Lucky Star_ makes frequent references to that series. In short, I have been having a terrific time. You can feel the love the staff and seiyuu put into this series, and it has all the hallmarks of a classic.
**Full Metal Panic: Invisible Victory** episodes 1-5 (rewatch) - This season is like non-stop action which is awesome. Sousuke, Kaname and Mithril are under a lot of pressure and backed into a corner by the enemy, which really sets the tone for the story going forward.
***
**Oshi no Ko** season 2 episodes 9-13 (rewatch) - Revisiting the second half of the season alongside my rewatch (which wraps up today) while comparing it to the manga, I always notice subtle foreshadowing I missed the first time around which makes the story even better. Aqua's character development is fantastic, and it's really interesting how conflicted he is compared to season 1. The big twists and changing dynamics between the characters have me feeling hyped to see what comes next. *Rating: 9/10*
***
**Pokémon: To Be A Master** episodes 5-12 - I've been a fan of Pokémon since the very first season, so it was nice seeing Ash go on an adventure with Misty and Brock again. I remember loving the Orange Island story when I was a kid, and the episode that referenced it here was my favorite. Ash teaming up with one of his old Pokémon to help another, and [Pikachu] >!intimidating Team Rocket into helping them out,!< made for a really fun episode. Pikachu had a lot of attitude in his short season, which was hilarious. There were a few parts that felt lacking, or a bit like filler, compared to the rest, but I also really enjoyed the ongoing plotline with the legendary Pokémon Latias. A fitting first anime for the new year, since *Pokémon Journeys* was the last anime I finished in 2025. *Rating: 8.5/10*
Became my favorite CGDCT show, a pretty refreshing take in the genre (no moe blob) and stunning visuals. 9/10 would recommend
Continued Chromarty High School, I'll probably finish it this week.
Started Shirobako and I'm already more than halfway done, hopefully I can finish that this week as well, though with Seasonals picking up, not sure if I will.
[eps 213-215] >!Otose isn’t dead, and everything was instigated by Amanto. Not much surprises here. But these events look quite important and interesting — since Kada is gone, does it mean Harusame lost their influence over Kabukicho? Won’t they come back with revenge? I reckon another big conflict is looming.!<
[ep 215] >!Our infamous edgelord Takasugi finally makes a new appearance, I don’t even remember how many episodes passed since we last saw him in action.!<
Eps 221-222 — I thought *Monogatari series* boasted the most ridiculously long names, but this one is clearly on another level. Fun fact — it’s based on an old Japanese [folktale](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jugemu).
**Earth Maiden Arjuna** (eps 1-3, in progress) — I’ve been looking for a TV series from year 2001 for quite a while and there appeared to be a rewatch running, so I joined and commenting there in more details.
Very experimental show, feels much more like a mix of live-action movie and 3D video game cutscene rather than your typical anime. CGI doesn’t look that bad though, especially considering it’s from early 00s.
**Space Dandy** (eps 1-4, in progress) — having real good time with this one! Totally love the extremely vibrant artstyle and the humor. Liking the main character too, he’s that reckless lovable pervert type like Issei from *High School DxD*.
And also… Dandy is the biggest, most outrageous hypocrite of all anime MCs! He talks about how "ass > boobs" in his opening speech, but next thing he does is stopping by nearby "breastaurant" for lunch! Is it a dark foreshadowing? Not clear if their galaxy even has any "rasstaurant" chains, though.
I was surprised to learn that this anime, with all its fanservice and horndog MC, is written by a woman — [Choi, Eun-Young](https://myanimelist.net/people/20088/Eun-Young_Choi), also known as Science SARU co-founder.
I'm also rewatching **Katekyo Hitman Reborn!** since netflix is now its latin american dubbed version (episodes 45 - 57)
**Death Note** - 1-18: he did indeed take a potato chip and eat it. This was the one I selected for my 400th anime and the first cour was very much a fine choice. Since Misa's arrival though I've been left frustrated with how the story is playing out, a number of the decisions made by Light and L feel illogical, the story could long be over if Light used his brain. I also felt disappointed by the lack of creativity with the Death Note. Like FMAB I see people talk a lot about the early show but nobody ever really brings up the midpoints, and in both cases I've been disappointed in the middle compared to the start of the show.
**Eromanga Sensei** - planning to finish this today or this week, I may have watched some this week but I'll get it ticked off. It's a fun time, no more no less.
Slapstick SoL with Uzaki's VA as a videogame addicted JK getting into BS antics.
-Hero Without a Class
-Unlimited Gacha Lv 9999
-Rock is a Lady's Modesty
-Mother of the Goddess Dormitory
-Tales of Wedding Rings 1
-Tales of Wedding Rings 2
-The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess
And currently almost finished with:
-Senpai is an Otokonoko
One of my favourites for sure. Everything was so well done.
**Texhnolyze (E7-E13)**
Probably my hardest watch yet. The show is very bleak and has zero light moments. It's also complex, cryptic, and forces you to pay attention at all times since it's very quiet. I'd say I'm keeping up so far, but I definitely had missed some things.
I honestly liked Texhnolyze more than I thought I would. It isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I still find it great so far. It's an unique experience, and I want to see how it wraps up.
Black Clover - up to episode 125
Been trying to watch an episode or two of this a day since finishing my MHA binge. Very fun show, not perfect and not the best, but fun and hype. Will definitely have it finished before S2, unlike MHA where I was really pushing myself
Binged it in one day, was not prepared as I had run out of Kleenex the week before from being sick. God that show is gorgeous and wrecked me.
Better back then: finished. Neat little stop motion short.
Magic Kaito: watching. This seemed like one of those shows doomed to sit unwatched on my list for a decade so I decided to just roll the dice and go for it. It's really good so far. No one talks about this show but it's fun and has a lot of style. The ED is probably going on a playlist.
**Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai**.
**Tougen Anki**. Very strong Blue Exorcist vibes and also, the author definitely has a favorite type of woman.
**The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess**. Needs a season 2, NOW.
Movies/OVA
**Hi no Ame ga Furu**
**Karuizawa Syndrome**
**Cleopatra**
**Kigyou Senshi Yamazaki: Long Distance Call**
It's a...chirpy anime, absurd, colourful and loud. If you're down in the dumps, it'll help you forget for a bit. It feels like something you'd watch Sunday morning, while eating breakfast and lazing around. A lot of anime advocate for action, taking your destiny into your own hands, embark on a journey of betterment. In Nichijou, you stumble over a rock and that's your villain origin story right there. It's not unique (or perfect), a lot of comedic slice of life has that, but Nichijou's dedication to it paired with the paradoxical, and all that depicted through some great animation/design and original voice acting makes it pop out. I find charming how it embraces the human obsession with the most minute things.
- **Umamusume: Cinderella Gray**: an amazing sports anime I got to witness, the rise to the top and the rivalries that went in it... To sum it up, in Kitahara's words: [Episode 1] >!"Cap", as in "Peak"!<. 10/10
- **Farming Life in Another World**: I was looking up certain characters in anime, and then stumbled upon this one. It was a very comfort and chill anime to watch, I totally missed it when I was watching **Campfire Cooking** at the time. Having binged it in 2 days, I'm now caught up and can't wait for Season 2 this year. 8/10
Anime in Progress:
- **Combatants Will Be Dispatched** (3/12): in Konosuba fashion, the banter between Six and Alice is so funny in this new place they are. Now I wonder where they'll take their new conquest with the new girls in the Team.
- **Monster Strike Deadverse Reloaded** (1/10): with Amazon Prime having picked it up, I can now watch it with the available subs. First time in this franchise as a whole.
- **Hunter x Hunter 1999** (35/62): I was scared of what was going to happen in this episode, but thankfully nothing bad happened. I might be closer to the end of this arc already.
I hope I can watch them at a good pace when I wake up in the mornings, as I still have **Gintama** to continue with Episode 8.
