Watched Berserk 2016 before Beserk 1997

As title says managed to watched Berserk 2016 without realising there was an earlier series from 1997.

Now questioning if its worth going back to watch the 1997 episodes?

Don't watch Berserk at all.
It's not fit for human consumption, in more ways than one.

The 2016 is just a (widely considered poor) sequel/continuation set at a later point in the overall story.

The 1997 series is still in its own right a classic masterpiece with new content.

I was in your position.I wached BOTH season for the 2016 berserk

It was trash

Music was great though

Then one Saturday,I sat and watched in one sitting,the 97 berserk anime

And it was one of the best things I had ever seen

Then,the next Friday,till Sunday,I read through all of berserk

Agreed about the music, also like the Berserker armour episodes but yeah overall not the best anime I've ever watched, also not the worst though

I’d recommend the films by studio 4°. They’re not perfect by any means, but the memorial edition is pretty good.

My friend, you should have never watched that aberration. Of course you need to watch the Golden Age, either 1997 or 2012 (or the 2022 10th anniversary) version, How could you understand why does Guts hate Grffith that much otherwise? You should watch both of them actually, since no one is a complete adaptation but together are slightly better, or you can replace the last 5 episodes with 2022 version's last 5 episodes.

But even so you are not getting the complete story, So, you know what? Just forget the anime and read the manga from the chapter 0-A.

Will freely admit that I had/still have no clue why Guts hates Griffith so much, have added Golden Age to the watchlist
