İ feel the same. It s one of those weird seasons where the rankings feel a bit off because the usual heavy hitters are absent. İt s a good chance for smaller shows to get some spotlight but I definitely miss that 'must-watch' hype for the top 10.

Was Cinderella Grey really that good? I keep hearing good things, but I couldn't believe a game based plot line could be that good, plus 'sports based' anime are mostly bad from my perspective.

If you don't enjoy that much sport anime I guess they aren't your cup of tea. But I do recommend to watch Uma Musume to everybody because they are based on real life, so it is more original and you can read about them and increase the experience (the week discussion threads are good for it). You could try "uma musume season 2" first because it is more of an emotional anime. Cinderella Grey is full aura farming, epic moments, etc that reminds more to classic sport anime such as Hajime no ippo, Kuroko No basket, Ping pong the animation, etc

The story is based on the irl career of the horse Oguri Cap. So if you read the wikipedia page, you will be spoiled.
Just watch the first episode and you will get the vibe on what kind of show it is. It has good animation, soundtrack and direction. I really liked the characters and the sports aspect felt realistic as it follows the irl races.

Cinderella Grey faithfully follows the journey of Oguri Cap, a real life rachorse who was active from 1987 - 1990. It's a classic hero's journey following a regional racehorse who went on to challenge the very best that National Japanese Horse Racing offered at the time mixed with the rivalries, triumphs, challenges and setbacks that the real life Oguri faced. It is definitely one of the best series that Fall 2025 has to offer.
Of course, the animation, soudtrack, OPs and EDs are also great thanks to the money printing machine that is the gacha game itself (the anime is adapted from the Seinen Manga of the same name).

If you like sports anime, you’ll enjoy it. While the idea of IRL horses being girls in this universe is silly, the execution is really good imo. The story also try to be as faithful as possible to the careers of the irl counterparts of the horse girls.
Cinderella Gray in particular follows Oguri Cap and her racing careers, and because it’s an anime that’s produced by Cygames in house anime studio, they have the gacha budget to make the animation as good as possible.
Also, don’t look up any race or info that involves a particular horse, since it means that you could be spoiled by results of races and such.

Compared to other works that wrap up in just one cour, this one takes a much longer time to unfold, so I think it’s still too early to fully judge it.
In my opinion, the true highlight comes in the second season that’s coming next, so I really hope everyone looks forward to it! Of course the ending is great too, but personally, I’d love to see them rewrite the script completely for a movie version.
That’s how amazing and powerful the original reality (live-action) was.

Sanda was the sleeper anime of the season. Cool art and story premise. In a distant future, very few kids are born, so all kids are cherished and sent to special schools. However, they aren't allowed to sleep, because that causes them to hit puberty faster. One kid has some genetic heritage of Santa Clause. If he wears something red (even his own blood), he instantly become a super buff old man, who is nigh indestructible. He also has the power to grow sleigh runners out of his feet.
Plot involves a lot of coming-of-age and sexual awakening stuff, without being explicit. Really unique, twisting plots.

Wandance was a simple solo dance off sports style anime with a bit of a romance blooming. The guy protagonist has a severe stutter (Komi Can't Communicate?), but clearly has above average intelligence. The girl protagonist is patient with his stuttering (you find out it is because her father is near deaf), and they have a common interest in dancing. They both join the dance club. They both are considered 'very good' for their experience and age.
The dances they show are mo-capped CGI, which I really didn't mind (the hair physics really bothered me though for long haired girls). The dances are like solo break dancing style.
