Wonder why it took several days after the first episode for Amazon to pick this show up...

The show is a remake of the original comic/anime in the 80s, in a modern setting, with some tweaks to fit in the 21st century. But then, it somewhat also does cater to an audience that watched the anime in the 80s.

One of the most important gags of this work is that all the names of the characters are puns and the name often explains the characters.

- Ichiro Rei - “All Bow”
- Reietsu Go - “Let’s Go”
- Shusse Kiyoshi - “Good attendance”
- Daima Jin - [Daimajin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daimajin)
- Monohoshi Dai - Drying Rack
- Kawa Yui - Kawaii (cute)
- Uru Chie - “loud” (she’s a chatty character)
- Ikari Masuyo - “(I’m) gonna get angry”
- Undou Kai - “sports festival”
- Nihiruda You - “(I’m) nihilistic”
- Amano Jako - “contrarian”

The list goes on and on.

Komi-san has prepared me for the names being puns

Thank you, the dialog was way too fast for me to pick up on more than one or two of these. "Undou Kai" is just the kind of stupid joke that makes me laugh for way too long, like one of the names at the end of Car Talk.

Man, this is so over the top 😅🤣

Never expected them to graduate from middle school in the first episode even though the show is named as Highschool Kimengumi lol

I'm only half-way into the episode and will finish watching it some other day, but I liked it!

It's significantly different from anime that air nowadays, so it has novelty on its side.

I can see that this anime is madly popular with a total of 5 comments and 15 karma!

It didn't get a pickup until like the day after it aired, so yeah I can understand how this is a somewhat niche title

abandoned_idol2026-01-18 04:35

I ran out of stamina. As to be expected of me, being a Gaijin and all.

Watched 2 episodes, and I'll probably demote it to something that I'll watch when I need to kill time.

It is certainly very cartoonish.

This is definitely... an inspired anime.
