I just finished Attack on Titan cause my friend recommended it to me. In my opinion it was really corny. It had it's good moments, and it was a bit wholesome and exciting during the first two seasons, but overall I didn't enjoy it. Just feels like power-fantasy to me. Why does it get so much praise? I saw it had like 9.5/10 on IMDB. Am I missing something?

It feels like it's like its crafted for immature boys. Some themes are decent but so poorly executed, the ending just makes me cringe.

1. Why did everyone like Armin and Mikasa, or even Reiner and Jean suddenly sympathize with Eren after The Rumbling played out? He's a selfish piece of shit, it makes no sense. He was annoying all throughout the series and then you tell me he wants to kill everyone too? And then in the last episode hes portrayed as some tragic martyr even after admitting it's what HE wanted to do.
2. Mikasa as a character is so weird and one-dimensional. This unconditional love thing is not realistic at all, and it just comes off as waifu-bait. Its like she's a servant, she doesn't seem to have any agency of her own. Shes there just cause there needs to be a girl savior cause otherwise it would flop. Her "love" is not written as true love, its like some sort of curse, which is why felt like it made sense when Eren lied about it being because she was an Ackermann.
3. When the mareleyan general says something like "We've been so hateful and horrible, and now the hate is coming back towards us. We need to stop fighting..." when The Rumbling is coming towards them, that doesn't even make any sense. If he was capable of coming to that realization surely he would've done that sooner, and not in the heat of the moment when their lives are threatened. Its just there to sound good and be emotional but it comes off as so forced.
4. The lore is ridiculous, why tf would Ymir love her owner who tormented her? And they dare to call that love in the series?

Overall this just comes off as some teenagers wet dream about killing monsters and having a girl that's crazy about you, and the show is pretending to be about "deep" themes but its surface level stuff you though about in middle school: "Hate will reinforce itself in a vicious cycle.", wow what a revolutionary though. "Both sides see themselves as the hero." WHAT?!

I wanted to get into anime because I've always liked Studio Ghibli, and Akira is cool too. I really love the artstyle of what I've seen. But this was some slop to me. I made a list of some anime's I though I might like better after looking around for a while. What do you guys think, or do you have any other recommendations?

Mushushi, Serial Experiments Lain, Erased and Monster?
