What’s the most gut wrenching 12ep anime out there?
I’ve been watching anime since I’ve been a kid and feel like I’ve watched every good 12 ep anime out there, looking for some new 12ep anime’s that will leave me gobsmacked by the end, whether that’s bc of good storyline or stupid plots. Looking for something that will have me at the edge of my seat or sobbing at my screen, a truly worthwhile 12ep!

King Hamdo is an amazing villain, dude. What the fuck are you talking about?
If you want something a bit nicer a place further than the universe has a gut punch emotional ending that left me sobbing like a baby. It's a comedy/drama/slice just FYI
Peak
Also niche and an enjoyable watch with friends.
You KNOW its coming but you still cant stop the feels
That scene always gets me. 😞
Still bring a tear to my eye
It's one of those shows that I watched once when I was younger and I probably won't ever go back to it. I can't. I'm just so much more emotional as an adult that it'd ruin me. I had a friend recommend me Violet Evergarden and that episode, you know the one(I don't want to spoil it for OP), *really* got me.
A Place Further Than the Universe
And that fucking movie... that shit had me in SHAMBLES, man. Only Clannad After Story ever was in the same realm for me in regards to just making me into a ball of snot and tears.
Fun Fact: [Sis Puella Magia](https://youtu.be/bzlHPlq8hIs) is not sung in an actual language. It just sounds like a mix of Latin and Japanese syllables.
It does not have a gut wrenching ending but will definitely tug at your heartstrings.
Some people will say it needed a few more episodes, and that might very well be true. But that last episode and that ending...if you're looking for something gut wrenching, that's it.
Especially combined with the fact that it's actually one of the funniest anime out there as well. It's super whiplashy.
Edit: Episode 3, straight up, I believe is one of the best episodes ever done period.
I'll go through a period where I'll listen to Ichiban no Takaramono on loop
Definitely one of those watching a train wreck in slow motion sort of shows.
The novels keep going for quite a bit after the anime and the pain train only keeps going deeper.
Its the only anime/novel that i've read that manages to always somehow relit the kindle of hope thinking "surely now its going to get better right? its looking good" only to stomp it out with a metal boot and sending you back down the despair spiral, each time getting worse.
It does not matter how much you think "i know its going to get worse, i shouldnt get my hopes up" but you still do.
At some point the poor MC has to be given the award to unluckiest guy ever.
Binged it all one afternoon before going to class
Needless to say I ended up not going to class because I was tearing up so much.
If you want to experience one of the best written and drawn works of all time
While also absolutely destroying yourself entirely emotionally, physically, and metaphysically
I recommend reading Oyasumi Pun Pun
Gundam 0080 war in the pocket.
Hellsing ultimate.
Talentless nana & angel of death -suspense & edgy
(that said, we need a 2-cour Devilman Lady remake)
* Heike Monogatari
* Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
* 91 Days
* Hoshiai no Sora (infamously had its runtime cut in half late in production so its incomplete)
* Haibane Renmei
* Mars Red (show is solid but the first episode is standalone and by far the strongest so you can just watch that)
Haven't you Heard? I'm Sakamoto is arguably sad at the end.
It left me speechless a lot
edit: whoops it's only 10 eps but it has all the gutwrenching you'd want
Really creative and incredible art and some really great writing. Really good if you need something a bit cute and lighthearted
I also recomend _Erased_, it has mistery, angst and it is really good. Less than 12 chapters, if I remember correctly
For movie Grave of fireflies
One Week Friends and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. Both amazing and left me thinking.
Also one movie that i can suggest is Jin-Rou. This one was really solid.
Fact, one episode was pulled because of something horrible that happened IRL just like in the anime when it aired. Idk if you can watch it now.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien... Its a story about mentally unhealthy people that literally do the wrong thing morally at every turn to someone that is pure and innocent.
You will cry, for days.
Clannad After Story
Kanon 2006
