Haven't watched much anime in the past ~5 years, can I get recommendations based off the manga I've been reading and to help me get back into it?
Used to watch a bunch when I was younger, but for the past few years, I've noticed I drop a seasonal in just a few eps for no real reason. I watched a majority of my anime in the 2010-2020 period, so I'm not too up to date with what's popular or trending (outside of the super popular or exceptional stuff like Frieren). On the other hand, I've been reading lots more manga.
For both watched and read:
I haven't seen much romance/romcom so I'd like to try more of those, however I dislike "empty" characters like the love interests whose only purpose is to blush and gasp, or protagonists who are very clearly self-inserts. I've really liked Tonikaku Kawaii and Skip to Loafer as examples.
My most important preference is good characters regardless of genre. Whether they are super well-written or likeable, characters come before plot most of the time for me. I like emotional stuff that goes into a character's personality too.
I tend to read historical/sports/drama/psychological/slice of life/battle-adventure and mystery stuff. Some manga I really like are Rainbow, any urasawa manga, holyland, magi, lone wolf and cub and kingdom for a few examples. I've also realised that a lot of these fall under the "Seinen" demographic but i dont mind anything
I don't mind it, but I dislike shows which are heavy on fan service. I also dislike "perverted" anime in general and harems. I have BARELY seen harem, so I'm open to try any, but the actual concept of a harem I don't like so I'm not expecting to really enjoy many of them.
As for my favourite anime, I really like the popular battle stuff like one piece and hunter x hunter. I also love apothecary diaries, 86, Major, mob psycho, hajime no ippo, fate/zero, parastye, your lie in april, run with the wind, megalobox, dororo etc.
Some recent anime I have actually FINISHED (2021 onwards): Ao Ashi, Hell's Paradise, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, Ooi! Tonbo, Overtake!, Skip to Loader, Summertime Render, Heavenly Delusion, Undead Girl Murder Farce. I've seen others but these are ones I particularly liked.
Sorry if this is asking for a lot. Thank you.

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

I also recommend Clevatess, an action packed dark fantasy story.
It really helps that it is all based on IRL races and super high quality. Especially Beginning of a New Era. Like bruh, that movie is just beyond ridiculous how much production value it has.
For recs maybe Oddtaxi and Howto be ordinary. Bith are very well written mystery dramas.
Also since you clearly love your sports anime. I will ditto the previous comment that Cibdarella grey goes way too hard for a horse girl show.
Yeah Undead Girl Murder Farce was really good. The main characters' were so charming, and the plot was unique. Really wish we get more of it. I don't want to read the novel or manga for this one, so heres hoping we get a season 2
