Shows or movies with a "song"
Im working on a research project about cyberpunk edgerunners and how the song "i really want to stay at your house" was effectively used in order to create the emotional response that it does. I want to see if there's any other movies or shows that use a single song throughout that creates a similar response.

Gugu and Rean from To Your Eternity have a theme song as well that gets reused in the context of their relationship, i definitely don't consider it just background music, but i'm not sure it fits what you're looking for:

I fucks me up every time they play it.
I'm sure there's more examples, maybe not in the context of a romantic relationaship between characters.
If you mean insert songs, I mean still lots of shows do that. A Place Further than the Universe has a few insert songs it repeats several times to great effect([Haru ka Tooku](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tqz1EstJi8), [Sora Wo Miagete](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOnXWk-Bwno)) , until the last time they play [Mata Ne](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmR88IewfH0) they've primed you to fucking *bawl*.
Holy damn. She starts at the beginning with random notes, slow, and not much skill, but over the course of the show, she works on it, until it’s a fully fleshed out piece with her singing… and when it plays fully for the first time, my was so moved, I actually teared up a little.
Also, Violet Evergarden: The Love That Binds Us.
Literally speechless. It’s a beautiful piece, combined with the visuals, I couldn’t help but feel something deep.
An easy approach would be to focus on character and battle themes. You'd find plenty of material.
When it comes to athmosphere and emotions, anime make it very clear when they use which songs and they stick to it.
Cherry on top: You could discuss the effective use of the main opening song during an episode. Like, if done correctly, this is the best!!!! More recent examples could be the final episode of Blue Lock season 1 where they nailed it, Pokemon during Ash's Championship battle vs. Leon (NAILED. IT.), or Digimon Last Evolution Kizuna where they miss the chance to play the piano version of Butterfly during THAT particular final scenes. Got me SOOO MAD. I mean, just check out the final moments of the original Digimon Adventure anime. Nailed it! The funny thing was, someone immediately uploaded a video on YouTube where he had replaced the movie's song with Butterfly. What I'm trying to say is: That is what we fans want!
Good luck on your research!
