The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist Season 2??
I watched the anime; it was average, I guess. But I'm curious about the continuation of the story. For 12 episodes, the MC and the girl don't become a couple. In the very last episode, I thought, "Aha, this is going to happen," but they just hold hands, have a couple of romantic conversations, go to school together, and the anime ends. Honestly, that ending didn't satisfy me much. Do you think there will be a season 2? Or if anyone has read the manga or light novel, could they briefly explain what happens next in the story?

I would also like to see a second season, but it probably won't happen
First two volumes out in March, though the publisher keeps pushing back the release date so who knows.
You can treat Monogatari Novels as being a company that doesnt translate LNs to English. I was wrong about the license, but they won't ever be released
It's just what the market rewards, and the market in this case being light novels. Authors drag their stories out as long as possible like this because A: they want to sell more volumes, and progressing the romance means progressing towards the end of the series and and end of sales, B: dragging out the romance and introducing love rivals means pulling in more readers/viewers who cheer for one type of girl over another, and resolving the romance with one of them means pissing of fans of the others, and C: the writers just don't know how to write couples who are in a relationship. Writing a real relationship is hard. You have to have deep characters who have real conversations with each other for long periods of time and sound and act like real people. Writing them just bumbling into awkward situations you've seen a thousand times like walking in on each other in a hot springs, debating whether or not to let the other one hold the umbrella for them when they forgot theirs, agonizing over what counts as an indirect kiss, etc are all easy things to churn out chapters with little effort or thought.
Most LN authors are semi-talented amateurs who won a submission contest or got discovered on a self-publishing webnovel site. Most aren't actually that good at writing, and their target audiences of teenagers or lonely salarymen don't care that much. They come up with one novel or interesting idea, then hang all the usual tropes and character archetypes off it and bam, they've got 7 or 8 volumes of the same old stuff ready to print and sell. Dreaming Boy's novel idea is 'what if the loser simp MC grew a spine and started moving on from the Main Girl he's been crushing on'. Which lasted for like 4 episodes before it was out of steam, the author made them go back to normal with him simping over her, and ran them through the same gamut of tropes and romcom situations 624 other romcoms did before.
I enjoyed the series more or less as well, though it completely wasted its central premise by a third of the way in, and I can see why it didn't end up making enough of a splash to get renewed.
