"S-sure..."
Saw it in the ending with the handholding, but yeah basically a bait by the isekaid accountant and switch to the gay stuff. Guess I'll drop
Maybe he should consider buying oil instead of tonics...
sounds like the next Chuck Tingle light novel title
The singing 🎵
Making Aresh feel so damn tossed aside 😭😭
>I’ve always had a weak stomach thanks to my unhealthy lifestyle and lack of lack [but continues to work himself to death]
r/SelfAwarewolves
Aresh is so appalled and that is understandable.
>Aresh: When I look at this guy, I can’t help getting irritated…any yet
“And yet” what sir, finish your sentences now, don’t be shy 👀
He sounds like Seunghyun from <Pearl Boy: Ignite the Dawn> from the latest drop 😭

When I first saw Aresh helping our overworked accountant, I was super duper stoked guideverse was in this. I can see the vision of Esper!Kondou overdosing on guide supplements and Guide!Aresh deciding to help him 👀
Alas, twas not guideverse.
Maeno’s chanting reminds me of Karuta when someone’s reading aloud a poem for the players to the corresponding card. I’d love to hear him be a reader for that.
Like medically speaking. Is there an amount of time? Do you need to finish? Really curious what the logistics are there.

With how this is going, probably far longer than the actual treatment time needed...
If you don't want to watch a gay romance story... that's fine. Perfectly fine. No one has to defend what they do or do not like to watch for disposable entertainment. If you can't relate to the main drama then it's a valid reason to stop watching.
But don't hate the show because it's not the genre you prefer. I don't care for harem shows or shounen, but it's not like I'm going to review bomb every series in those categories.
I'm just going to ignore them.
And I guess I've just been in the trenches long enough that I pegged this as BL from just the poster, with synopsis confirming it. BL ain't normally my cup of tea, I've only watched a few series, but I gave this one a try on a whim.
Gaysekai are pretty rare, so I figured it'd be a fresh take on an extremely stale genre.
Definitely wasn't expeting "Youch My Ass Hurts" from the beginning of Episode 2... but this seems to be a mature enough series that is looking into deprogramming Sei's corporate slave mindset while also likely tapping into some emotional baggage of Aresh that's kept him so closed off.
I'm digging it so far.

- The ED is nice. [](#listen)
Deshou! This world has some very good looking people and that doc is right up there.
He is treating it like getting a prostate exam.
Indolark: "I think the guy I like is treating me like a prostitute. AIO?"
"I saved your life. I'm about to take it back." 😂🔥
Bit like applying mild sedation to a patient, he could've been microhealing & anesthetizing as-needed.
Not totally ruling out that this isn't Sei's first time. But he is such a workaholic and not-great with people generally that any encounters, if any, cannot have been recent (dude has "permanent dry spell" practically tattooed under his eyes ).
Didn't really notice it first episode. Read the previous thread after this episode, looks like it was obvious to many. But I don't really want to watch another mana transfer, not my thing. Guess I'll try some more episodes, but looks like a drop.
It works as we can see here hahaha
Did not expect the treatment for magic sickness would be having sex with a magic user. Was very amusing the way both of them were treating it like it was nbd and something that just had to be done. But it did raise some troubling questions for me. Indolark says something like why would an adult get magic sick, which seems to imply this is something that usually affects children. So how exactly do they treat kids with magic sickness?? o_O
My guess is there is another treatment but Indolark just wanted to use this method because huhu
I'm with him on not understanding this crazy workaholic though. Kondou wants so much to continue his work that he'll risk taking the tonics again and is game for more gay sex so he can do it without dying. Nice nice.
Edit: Oh, and the ED is very nice indeed. Best one so far this season possibly, musically anyway.
Goblin Slayer slept with 2 girls! Although he was literally asleep at the time lol.
And I agree the ending is sooo good. Went on repeat already
is it transmitted in bodily fluids? maybe it's more important to get breastfed when you're young
(like, by your mother or a wetnurse, not the captain of the guard)
It had to go to sex because he was at the brink of death and needed a direct injection of mana or something.
They are going by Fate GO rules where sex is the most efficient method but not the only one.
So not only did he start with no magic resistance (most people likely have some from birth in this world, just by process of natural selection), but no one warned him about this issue.
It was a double whammy leading into an emergency situation that called for emergency measures.
Normally, a child would likely be weaned into high-magicule foods... as mentioned, breastmilk in this world likely gets everyone gently accustomed to their mother's mana as a means of building up natural magic resistance.
Then they are kept away from high concentrations of magic-rich foods, medicines, and other substances as they continue to build up their resistance.
Sei was just thrown to the wolves in comparison.
I think most people would not even consider this since is something natural to their world. Probably a few know they come from a world without magic, and even then, only a few would make the connection.
And to make things worse, from what they said, they have summoned Saint and it seems their body get adjusted in the process, him coming together was a first, even the people that could maybe think of the problem, might just assume that his body was adjusted like the Saint was.
Edit: Additionally, if he wasn't a workaholic, this probably wouldn't have happened, his body would get used slowly and the problem would go away without anyone knowing about it.
So it was a very specific set of conditions that caused this scenario.
But they don't.
That's why he never got a proper medical examination that would have revealed this odd condition, nor did he have anyone assigned to watch over him, make sure he adjusted well, and just in general make sure he's OK.
Because they didn't care to even ask the question in the first place.
Again, the Saint was given a full medical eval, while Sei was largely just swept under the rug and forgotten about.
And that's a separate problem from Sei being a corporate slave with no self preservation.
Ah yes, direct injection of "mana"...mmmhmmm...
"*Mr. Commander, why is your mana thick and copious??*"
i was thinking it was something like how antibodies are passed on through breastmilk
apparently just putting food in the usual food hole is going to be enough to build a tolerance for Sei if it's in low doses
[](#schemingsaten)
I do think they probably could have made this story work without the sex, but this is a fan service slice of life and well, this gets the relationship going quicker so oh well. Plot points kind of I guess.
I didn't really get that vibe from the Aresh. He was really upset when Kondo just walked out on him. Like, setting aside the "you nearly died wtf are you doing" element, he seemed a bit awkward like he was expecting 'the talk' after what happened.
Only to have a door immediately slammed in his face. Sei was literally and metaphorically shutting down Aresh's feelings.
He then proceeds to follow Sei around all day and continue taking care of him, so clearly that night was more than just 'nothing' to him.
Especially since everyone else seemed surprised that Aresh was taking an interest in someone. He is apparently as aloof as he is broody, so him immediately taking a close interest in someone was notable.
And that 'someone' just happens to be someone he slept with the night before XD
Aresh just seems like a socially awkward person that just doesn't know how to deal with how much of a workaholic Sei is.
His irritability is clearly a tsundere thing XD
Well, Aresh has very cute tsun attitude so I'll be ok with another episode or two of this, which is something I never thought I would say as I usually can't take that much tsundere.
I simply cannot stand baka-braying abusers slapping people around left and right because they can't control their own emotions.
Aresh is irritable, yes, but that's because he just can't process Sei's far more irrational behavior. The man nearly died and just charges straight back into the meat grinder.
Forget the sex, that's the insane part. And yes, there was also the sex. Like... holy shit, at least have "the talk" about expectations and what not so the other person doesn't feel used and discarded.
However, Sei clearly was affected by his night with the knight, it's just he's too much of a corporate slave he can't process what just happened. Not any of it. He can't process how he nearly died nor the intimacy he just shared. He can only focus on the work he 'missed out on.'
And that's throwing Aresh off balance, as he realized the guy he just saved is hopeless and needs a serious intervention before he just drives himself back into the ground. And what was the point of the intimacy they shared if this hopeless fool is just going to immediately get himself killed afterwards?
It's a lot more understandable than some high school girl yelling at a guy because she can't accept nor understand the crush she has.
Totally reasonable that Cmdr-kun wants to save Sei, given that he has a "Help the People" sort of career.
(Especially as Friend-kun mentioned he's a high-ranking noble - not typically the type you find in frontline meat grinder jobs.)
Never worked in healthcare myself, but as I understand, part of the training is to care without losing yourself. Either Aresh never got that, or Sei has gotten under *his* skin.
And walking out on him the next morning was so harsh. My poor boy Aresh just about lost it at that and understandably so too.
I like Aresh's type of tsun. It feels more relatable than that type usually is to me. A lot of it is the dynamic of the two. Sei is just so ridiculously workcrazy that it seems reasonable for Aresh not to know what to do with this guy!
.....that said clearly this still happens SOMETIMES since it exists as a (common?) treatment in the first place. I assume probably in the magic orders?
Sei is so worried about paying him back, but I headcanon part of why Indo is so nonchalant about the situation is because he fucked up the treatment. Surely they're supposed to be aware of this kind of possibility and act accordingly! I bet "misjudged your own strength and made someone magic sick" is like an unforced error in baseball -- embarrassing and nobody lets you live it down.

No, but seriously, it would be hilarious to see how far those snowflakes would last if this was more of a slowburn BL. And how much worse the meltdown would be if they were 'tricked' into watching for 10+ episodes before realizing they were enjoying a 'gay' show.
People need to seriously learn to chill.
Yeah, I don't give a shit what the 'canon' pairings are, that series was a raging rainbowtease where every gay ship possible had better chemistry than the straight pairings.
It was so bad, that the two lady loves for our strapping lads had better chemistry *with each other* than with the boys. And forget how gay the subtext between Vanitas and Noe was... holy forking shirt balls, Batman, rainbows were sparkling in every scene.
But just pointing out how it's more than a little gay for two dudes to dance with each other while one thinks about how much his heart is fluttering? About how he's overcome with desire at the thought of drinking the other guy's blood? About how he can barely control his urge to sink his teeth into the other dude and drink deep of his 'sweet taste?"
Yeah, that show was super fucking gay, and yet, if you tried to point that out...
OMG THEY ARE JUST FRIENDS WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!
*sigh*
Look, I'm straight myself and don't go out of my way to watch gay stuff. But even I felt blueballed by Vanitas, as the gay chemistry was through the roof and the straight pairings were all hella toxic and/or flat in comparison. It felt like being cheated or the author was a coward that wouldn't fully commit to the bit.
Personally, I blame the author. She is apparently notorious for gay baiting, which is made all the worse because she also struggles to write good straight romances. So all the characters have great gay chemistry with tacked on straight relationships.
IDK, I'll shut up now >.>
_Vanitas no Carte_ definitely be baiting, but at least it doesn't sell delusions about which parings are the intended endgame. It just really leans on lustful vampires tropes.
But I am curious, who is the target audience for this? Mainly because of the isekai and salaryman theme, is this supposed to be aimed at men? Because I feel like the theme doesn't seem very interesting for women.
For example we got **Salaryman ga Isekai ni Ittara Shitennou ni Natta Hanashi**, same time last year, and that was definitely more male focused (but still boring IMO)
And as you wrote, fantasy/sci-fi seems to be better themes for BL, since isekai tends to be about giving excuses for power fantasies.
Haven't we had a billion "I got isekai'd and I'm gonna live a nice, quiet life" anime in the last few years? imo isekai is more wish fulfillment than just power fantasy - power fantasy (being the strongest/smartest/etc) can be a kind of wish fulfillment of course, and there's a lot of anime like that, but "my previous life was so stressful, I'm just gonna chill" is also extremely common, I'm pretty sure. And usually the main guy gets a pretty girl, or several, this one just gets a pretty guy instead.
I’ve never watched BL, as long as the show is good I don’t care.
Seems like a good isekai so far tbh I’ll continue to watch until it sucks /shrug
it opened up for me that love is love, and a lot of the things i like in a relationship story are still there regardless of the genders like mutual support, comfort, and understanding
Anyway, May I suggest you "Cherry Magic! 30 years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard" (BL romcoms with two adult couples. No smut, but ), "Yuri on Ice" (like my new boss is goofy but more obvious. No smut, and the main focus is on the ice skating) and "The summer Hikaru died" (seinen queer coming of age story with horror and psychological thriller. However, the MC is clearly homosexual and the other main character has a special bond with him)?
i also watched Cherry Magic because i was like "well, in for a penny, in for a pound" (so to speak); it's much more of an explicit romance while also featuring adult characters who make adult decisions, and the mind-reading plot gimmick (and alcohol, lol) helps drive the plot at speeds faster than the typical high school romance
if i were to recommend another borderline series, it'd be How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer which despite how the title sounds is not a same-sex/BL series, but does feature women who cosplay in masculine roles and the guys who fall for them; it's more of a comfy comedy series, which is more my taste
he was still on board for the rest of the treatment though, so i guess it worked out
I really like Aresh's fantasy hoodie at dinner, as well.
and then Aresh pulls out the three seashells and a tuba, and Sei is like "okay now i'm lost again"
[](#morethanonewaifu)
I didn't expect them to bang by episode 2 already. lol
One of the reasons why I Like BL is that at least they end up together soon and we get more dating contents (while many romcoms end as soon as the two main characters end up together)
He really does have no self-preservation though.
I like how much Aresh is concerned about Kondou's health when all he wants to do is just go back to work. It's funny how Kondou was genuinely considering giving up his body each night so that he can take the tonics lol.
After that line, I was half-expecting pheromones to come into play...
Sei gave him the "wham, bam, thank you mister" treatment
[](#sassyimouto)
Even though I hope that he eventually drops that slave drone mentality. At this point it starts being irritating.
Never seen a BL anime before, so that one really surprised me, but the shoehorning of it into the plot is hilarious so that alone definitely will get me to keep watching.
(As an occasional Type-Moon fan who only ever skirts the edge of Fate LOL)
this is no laughing matter; have you not read the seminal self-help book [How to Good-bye Depression: If You Constrict Anus 100 Times Everyday. Malarkey? or Effective Way? By Hiroyuki Nishigaki](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/331807.How_to_Good_Bye_Depression)
Based on the commander’s reactions after the fact when Kondou dashed out, looks like he is a big tsundere/kuudere
Yes, he sure “slept” well.
No excuses, you are now under Aresh custody until you prove that you can you can be trusted to not overwork yourself to death. It’s for your own good.
Eight hours of sleep, no overtime, regular breaks and good meals, you will get healthy lifestyle even if he has to ensure it himself, damn it all.
It should not be this entertaining just how done Aresh is with this no self-preservation idiot.
Mana transfer handholding?! Gasp, how scandalous. But very cute so I’ll let it slide this time.
And the pampering boyfriend and say gex is a nice bonus :)
"...Commander, when I asked 'do you have anything to report about your company,' that's not what I meant."
I love anime with a bunch of politics in it - so I'm hoping MC goes deeper into the budget of the kingdom and expands. Maybe he'll become an angel investor in some small thing, but don't think it'll go that way lol.
The commander being an overbearing work husbando is definitely the vibes I got from episode one. AND the side eyeing of MC considering it to do it more just to get some more health tonics, loving it.
It's kind of pervy writing for someone to give someone immunity to magic by fucking them in the ass. At first I thought both guys hated it but Indolark just didn't want him to die. I don't think either guy even disliked it. I'm going to rewatch last week's episode to see if they hint toward this at all, I probably missed them because the thought didn't occur to me.
Kondou has a clear tonic addiction. He sees not being able to have it anymore as the worst thing that could possibly happen. The way he was thinking he'd ask the chemist for a lighter version of the tonic made me think of how serious alcoholics sometimes get off liquor and try to limit themselves to beer or wine. He even considered having Indolark regularly heal him sexually just to be able to enjoy it although I think he might not even find that prospect unpleasant. They did leave it unclear though if drinking that tonic a lot is bad for normal people in that world or even bad at all.
Also interesting was how everything else got pushed to the backburner, like the spending corruption and the girl and others possibly being killed by miasma. It mainly focused on Indolark nursing Kondou back to health. Norbert commented he was surprised Indolark cared about anyone and it made me wonder how commonplace and acceptable homosexuality is in that world and if that could be the reason he acts cold and closed off.
Although, it makes me laugh regarding how many people were "blind sided" by that fact it's a BL and they thought it was just another isekai. My brothers in Christ, do you not watch the trailers?? Do you not read the tags on MAL?? Do you not look up the sources from whence the anime came??
