How Many People Rewatch The Entire Show Everytime A New Season Comes Out
I rewatched all of Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer for their new media, and have rewatched them multiple times for each new season that came out. While I remember big plot points I forgot alot of details and feel it doesnt hit as hard if the previous seasons arent fresh in my mind. I also did this with MHA, Dan Da Dan, Hells Paradise, basically everything.
Im starting to wonder if its inefficent cumbersome way to go about it, and also wondering if alot of people do the same

remember the basics.
I’ve rewatched Naruto like 4 times
Vinland saga 2x
Attack on titan 2x
Hunter hunter 2x
Demon slayer 1x
When re:zero was going 4 years between seasons I normally gave it a rewatch .
There are moments in there that twist my guts like nothing else, so it's something I'm very much anticipating and dreading at the same time. Have a few series like that, all favorites.
He is now one of my favorite MCs
You *have* to know that.
If you’re happy though, that’s all that matters.
The last episode of JJK was exactly 2 years ago, for example. I can't remember all the crazy stuff so a rewatch makes sense. The series is 18 hours to rewatch all 47 episodes. There was this weird thing where a week-long gap between anime seasons means the announcement of the new season *also coincides* with a dead week with no *new* anime to watch. 18 hours of anime *in a week* isn't hard and is filling the time void that otherwise I'd just do something else in.
You act like it's a sacrifice to watch one anime a week in your free time. If a second anime needed a rewatch I'd do that the following week instead of watching one episode of 15 new trash anime for the season that I don't really care about. It's... not hard...
>I think you're very hung up on the concept of "every time a new season comes out" as if this is a constant occurrence.
Nah, if I absolutely had to give grace here I think my confusion is coming from people just not watching as many shows as I do.
Like I’m watching 43 shows rn, and the thought of doing what you all are talking about would mean I would have no life (which, tbf this is r/anime so I’m probably in the minority as far as that being a problem).
And tbh I might even be open to it if YouTube recaps (like what I’m about to watch for Hell’s Paradise right after I finish typing this) weren’t a thing. But to spend that amount of time **in addition** to there being an easy and free alternative that takes a fraction of the time…yeah, y’all can have that, I’m good over here lol. Different strokes but I’m glad you’re having fun either way.
Used to watch sequels just because I watched its first season, but now I only do it if I really liked or loved S1. 12-13 episodes feel like enough to judge if the characters/story are for me
I rewatched both Hell's paradise and jjk becsuse they are easy shows to binge on a rewatch
Often times i just dont recall season 1 well and will rewatch to refresh.
I did it with Monogatari where any time a new season or arc was out i would rewatch the series. That is a 10 year long 100 ep series for the main story, so that was like 20 rewatches alone for that. But i also rewatched it a few times with friends who i kep trying to get into the series. So ive seen that one a lot...
But yes generally when a s2 comes out a year or 2 later i rewatch s1.

Mha would be too much for me to rewatch every time
Though I prefer to just watch a season recap made by people on youtube
With JJK for instance, I remember everything that happened, but Ive read the Manga so rewatching it helps remind me what my wife should and shouldnt know at that point in time for when we discuss it.
We also just both really like JJK so we have also just rewatched it for fun.
To date we watched s1 as it aired, rewatched s1 before s2 started, rewatched s1 and hidden inventory before the end of the break between hidden inventory and shibuya, and then we rewatched s1 and s2 in preparation for s3.
Yes, but you do you
Frierien & Horimiya being the only exceptions. Those two are my comfort shows that I’ve watched countless times. A hybrid of Himmel and Midoriya is what I strive to be as a man, friend, and husband
For example, I didn't really need a recap or rewatch of My Hero Academia between seasons because most characters outside a very select few only appear a couple times each and you can remember their stories on sight.
But when Re:Zero Season 3 came out I felt like it was worth a rewatch of the previous material to remind myself about a lot of the characters from season 1, as well as Subaru's current state of affairs, since a lot of the time loop shenanigans can be hard to remember exactly where things left off after some time has passed. But since watching Season 3, I think Season 4 is arriving soon enough that I won't have to rewatch it again. It's close enough in my memory to just watch S4 right away when it airs.
Usually watching the trailers or skimming through the last episode will remind me of things. If that's not enough to remind me then it's probably not worth it as it wasn't memorable enough or there's just too much stuff.
- Due to the nature of Manga / light novels, it's much faster and less tedious if there were parts of the anime you were less excited to rewatch
- Much more exciting as you're reading the story through the original lens and therefore you have a much clearer refresher of the story since obviously the source is much much more detailed than the anime (in most cases)
- You might feel less burnt out by the time you reach the new season, depending how much you've had to rewatch. I know this is a weird take, but imo diving head first into a new season without all the previous theme songs/ost's will feel much more novel and interesting. It's hard to describe for me, but I feel the need to instantly compare the music and other aspects of the show that's only in animes to the old seasons, and it might hinder my initial reaction to it if the previous season's soundtrack/design was good/bad. Feel free to ignore this bullet point, it's just a personal thing.
For other shows I may watch or read a recap. Sometimes I am confident I remember enough to not need recap.
I just started my Frieren rewatch last night!
This efficiency mindset of mine only applies to rewatches. My first watches will always be 1x speed, no other distractions, watch everything without skipping a single thing (even OPs & EDs).
Recent example for me was Saga of Tanya the evil. Had a vague recollection of what happened, Isekai quartet made me want to rewatch it. Then a new season got announced. Was a great idea too, didn’t even realize it had a movie! But on rewatch, I did in fact already see the movie before, just zero recollection of it.
Maybe you just don’t watch that many shows or have anything better to do, but the entirety of the show every time a new season comes out would take so much out of my free time, I couldn’t even imagine it
When a new season drops I just watch a youtube summary of the older ones to remember some details I had forgotten then watch it.
I think, if you are only watching a few shows every season, that's nice to recap the older season(s). But I am currently at 12 active animes, 10 from the current season, and Oshi No Ko S3, Frieren S2 and medalist S2 didn't even start yet.
Length like MHA is a no go and MHA is far from good enough to even consider rewatching before seeing a new sequal. Monogatari Series might be the one exception of mine I wouldn't mind rewatching even 150 eps just to watch a new season of 12 eps. In general I rarely rewatch a show in prep for new season and even 80-90% of them are shows only having a season 1 and getting a season 2.
When there however is an anime that is both very interesting to me and rather popular, I will probably watch it whenever something comes out and then watch some reactions to it. That way I don't fully rewatch it but get a refresher and some new insights and opinions.
not me, i only rewatch certain anime when i already forget about the story
I have watched Log Horizon at least once per year, sometimes even more than once. I just love it, the vibe, the music, the characters, the world, how Akiba grows, etc. Though the kids adventure (scrub horizon) is still my least favorite part.
Why haven't you considered that? Why are you not remembering these shows?
I'm not talking about 3+ years between seasons. Or watching things you enjoy because you enjoy them.
For the past year, I've just been reading and watching video essays on it, and it really helped.
Usually, I don't rewatch, but for JJK, I had to.
Been too long to remember the current situation.
