Please help me find this mecha anime

I am trying to find a mecha anime that I saw before and now I cant remember its name please help me with it if you know anything close to it.

– Mecha anime, Evangelion-like art style

– Colorful but muted 90s–2000s color palette

– Not very mainstream / not super popular probably even very unknown

– Group of male pilots

– Pilot suits were mainly white with red details

– One very prominent orange haired male character

– Cool but slightly melancholic tone

– First episode starts with a normal school setting of the MC (cute, slice-of-life vibe) before things escalate

– I first saw it in crossover fanart by a Japanese artist (years ago)

– The anime title felt long or complicated

I watched about 5 minutes of the first episode years ago and haven’t been able to find it since.

Any help would mean a LOT. This has been driving me crazy.

Sure it's not Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket?

Zegapain?

Fafner in the Azure?

RahXephon?

chenmintz_may2026-01-13 19:31

no I checked them and sadly none of the above, if it helps it might be also a bit space themed anime, and strangely I cant remember a female character from the fanarts like it was only a male group of pilots, if that can help still thank you a lottt

Maybe Tekkaman Blade?

Star Driver?

Captain Earth?

(Those last two are from the 2010s, though...)

The only mecha anime I can think of with a 90's/00's art style is Vision of Escaflowne, going off your comment about a school and a female character, this could be the one you are looking for? if not its still a very nostalgic anime for me, one of the first few that I ever watched as a kid, I'd recommend giving it a shot

[Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1288/Kidou_Keisatsu_Patlabor) ?

Hard request......

Gunparade March escalates very quickly in episode 1 but turns into a SOL for the rest of the show.

Megami Kouhosei (Candidate for Goddess, Pilot Candidates) has exclusively male pilots and female mechanics.

Fafner starts with students in a school but unlike GPM it is much more Evangelion-like.
