So Ryu can summon his armor! And it's not even a fight, he's so fast Gai can't land a single hit on him and he takes Gai out with a single chop! Though I'm really concerned about how apparently wearing the armor takes a physical toll on him. Is it because he's too old?
Not only is Mirei a tech/engineering genius...she's also the perfect person to leave in charge of inflicting cruel and unusual punishment on Gai so he doesn't keep resisting. For someone as hardcore as him, you need a hardcore way of taming him.
Gai wants to become a Samurai Trooper, not for the sake of protecting humanity, but to oppose his father Demon Emperor Ramaga. Said father basically having always intended to have Gai's body for himself...or maybe to avoid him becoming a Samurai Trooper to oppose him? Even though he deliberately had Saizou knock him out. Either way, Ramaga now wants his 10 Braves to bring Gai back dead or alive, starting with Nezu (Keninichi Suzumura!).
Well, it was nice of Gai to bring a tape with demon lore...and a demon concert. These guys really are old school for baddies.
Gai has no intention of working with anyone or being part of some team, but it's a fact that the only way they can get through this is by bringing together all five Samurai Troopers and working together as a team, just like the OG did. Yagyu knows this better than anyone. Now it's bringing this team together and making them ACT like a team that will probably be the real hurdle.
Oof. Bad enough that the demons have killed so many people, but they can turn them into Puppets to continue destroying humanity. I'm impressed Kaito was willing to stand up and protect civilians even when he JUST got his Under-Armor.
Nezu is Gai's former demon teacher and has dry-eye, but that's just as a result of his paralysis powers...and he has kunai he can throw into his enemies as well.
Poor Kaito. It's bad enough that he lost his Granny, but to see her get transformed into a monster...and kill people! At least he was finally able to work up the resolve to slay her, and free her soul, buy unlocking his weapon.
Gai doesn't feel much empathy for humans, or care about finishing someone else' fights even if it meant rescuing innocent people, but he seemed to recognize the weight of the demons' actions when he saw that someone with great taste in music like Kaito's granny was killed...and she didn't deserve to be transformed like that. I guess that's a start for him.
Gai finally transforms! With our first proper transformation sequence! Welcome the Emissary of Fire! Gai even uses teamwork to defeat Nezu! Is this possibly what Ramaga wanted for Gai as well?
What's up with Gai seemingly absorbing Nezu's demon core? Although, good news, the last member of the team has joined up! And it's Musashi's brother!
The ED is a hip, boy band, beat featuring the boys in their element and hanging out like bros! Along with a long-haired pretty boy.
The long haired guy, interestingly, is listed in the official website as the next Green Samurai. But with Ryusei being the current Green Samurai, the question is how and when he'll be replaced with this new guy, either through death, retirement or some other.

Iirc some of the old school JPN fans were unhappy with the violence levels of the sequel compared to the OG.

>What I can't accept is the thoughtlessness of innocently airing it on terrestrial TV without any prior notice that it contains expressions that would rate as equivalent to [R18+],
and to respect the viewers' "freedom to not watch" as well...(Wasn't the) original previous work "for kids," right? So as a viewer, you'd naturally expect it to have about the same rating. It's a terrible betrayal.
Some also felt the usage of 1980s Jpop hits was too try-hard and cringey.

>I'm not watching this because I want to hear nostalgic tunes. The previous series didn't even have the concept of songs, right? Folks like me, who get secondhand embarrassment from anime mixed with oldies, are probably a minority, but if the story revolves around nostalgic tunes, I'd probably drop it around episode 3.
But overall the reactions were mixed, some like the changes while others hated it.
The music has been fucking baller so far.

I wonder what other 80s songs they'll showcase moving forward. Granted they'll likely focus more on 80s Japanese pop/rock, although I wonder if they'll slip in Western songs as well, like [this](https://youtu.be/_dHkbyxcyMA?si=Oqf7IGxXOMvlXc2L) or [this](https://youtu.be/gkuUnnlAPZk?si=W7TYr9da_uF7j0d7).
So it seems like Ryuu is either going to die in battle, because of the side effect from being too old to use the armor or he will lose the ability to transform and become the new Samurai Troopers teacher. Or they can make it all above and make his death more tragic lol. I like how he said he would make up for the lack of power with experience.
Yama's got balls of steel for standing in front of a moving train like that.
The other two are Digimon Beatbreak and this series! (I'm spoiled for this character type this year/season. And story!)
(Uhm, random aside, but I just properly read your username and realized I've been following you on tumblr...but also possibly DA and LJ (under another username though) in the past? o_o))
^love ^your ^art ^btw!
Feel like we are getting so many nods to the original we are bound to get that ringed staff at some point lol
Gai Transformation and Special Attack are peakinema
I can't wait for more members of New Samurai Troopers.
Cool we see how Kaito ends up at the wrecked mall, I like how his granny is very rock and roll. So she knew he was a trooper interesting.
Ryu keeps tossing flags left, right, and center. Love we that got to see what the henshin looks like from outside, also like that there's more the armor can do besides toss out big moves.
Gai has a goal and I think during this journey to meet said goal he's gonna become more in tune with human emotions since he didn't even know why he was angry over granny's death. Henshin was amazing can't wait to see the others.
Pink Science girl is a mood lol
the 80s music and references are perfect, last week was pop this week we got rock wonder what genre we are gonna get next week?
Arago was brought up again he was Talpa in the NA dub. I thought they were adjusting somethings that was completely wrong, the Jewel is completely new and not what I thought it was. The OG guys were also 14 in the OG series and how Nasti was acting I wonder if something happened with figuring out that the age limit was 15. Which doesn't exactly bode well for Ryu since he is older and the armor in full causes strain.
The puppets are cool new enemy type really sells Ramaga as evil he needs bodies not souls for his invasion.
The armor is different but very close looking to the original style, I think that's tied to the new transformation item being used. I didn't quite catch what Ryu or Gai said during the Henshin but it wasn't Korin (Halo) or Rekka (Wildfire). This could also explain the new abilities in under armor and in full armor since it seems there is a major power up from what the armors were originally.
I finished my rewatch of the OG series and so will also join the OVAs are being ignored band wagon (thank god they are terrible) and they are most likely going for something else entirely happened after the series ended.
I wonder if [Og series] >!we are gonna get the inferno armor + white blaze by episode 12 after the whole we gotta work together thing!<
Analyzing the ending video cuz for some reason I forgot Ryusei isn't the new Samurai Trooper and it's because of how he's in all the opening and ending as the green trooper. Then I saw Shion (the new green) is sprinkled in the ending video and it made me realize, Ryusei is going to be swapped out eventually T\_T (please dont die...)

There's *just enough* audacity in this show's balance of silly humor versus the twisted circumstances of having to off someone's reanimated granny and the rest of the extra violence both seen and implied, that it... works.
Looks like we're going to be chewing the scenery with character conflicts for a while.
Pretty rude to turn awesome dead grandma into the monster of the week, but probably better that than the 100k other casualties they listed that might just be there to be the grunts you always need plenty of for the mass melee sequences. This seems unlikely but I hope she's actually haunting her grandson, she seems cool enough that it might just be a good time for everyone.
Good move by the engineer twintails to explain everything about how the armor works to Gai, if he hadn't known things might have gone a lot worse. I'm less certain about her electroshock therapy to tame the demon prince, but then again he is a demon prince.
Makes a lot of sense for Gai to be rebelling if his entire existence is to be a replacement body for his father, that's an interesting way to build a Red Ranger. They rather implied a couple times that something else may be going on, or maybe this is still part of the replacement body plan and the Demon Lord thinks a full-blown Ranger as a replacement body would be even better.
I've watched it back then and I'm watching the old series again and it did NOT age well at all. Painfully boring and deep as a puddle. It really was made inspired by Sentai and it shows.
The original is boring because it's paced badly. Hell, up to episode 15 or something there's barely anything of note happening.
It seems you're the one who wants to have immediate gratification since you can't even wait for more episodes to come so you could give any valid opinion.
Except, wait... These 2 episodes contain more lore than the first 15 of the original. Now what?
Woah stand back everyone, we got a badass over here

Also I'll admit I forgot the Japanese are too principled to stoop to the level of review bombing something Imeancanyouimagine!
And you're also right about japanese people, they can't do nothing wrong. It's not like lots of good anime didn't really find and audience in Japan while being beloved everywhere else because, and lots of times merch sales is more important than quality...
Story and pacing seems all over the place, but the animation is quite peak ngl.
If this had been exactly the same as the original, I don't know if I would be sticking with it.
I like the twists, the time skip, the whole thing where they're looking for successors to the original group, the fact one of the guys is a total psycho, the brutality (granted, I haven't watched the original in Japanese, so it was probably just edited out for US TV), I think I may be with this for the long haul.
I imagine its gonna be some character development or something? Like some sort of Vegeta situation where we are just suppose to be ok with him purposely and enjoyingly just snuff out life in the past?
I am wondering if the show was less gory as the prequel if I would have cared less.
