Does anyone still watch Lupin? | Lupin the IIIRD: The Immortal Bloodline Review
The reason I ask this question is that there were only like 7 people (including me) in my movie theatre in Toronto, the biggest city in Canada (population 7 million), very sussy baka. Lupin was one of the earliest and most influential seinen anime/ manga, yet it feels like it has been forgotten in the wind. Lupin also inspired Cowboy Bebop. Anyway, I did ask a man with his kid if he enjoyed the movie, and he said yes and that he has been watching Lupin for 30 years.
The immortal bloodline follows the Lupin crew as they get stranded on an uncharted island. Where they meet new and past assassins from other Lupin movies, but they can't stay on the island too long as the air is posiunus so they only have 24 hours to escape, and they have to deal with the main villain Muom, who can't die from regular means. This puts a real sense of urgency in the movie, leaving very little room for any slow scenes.
The animation was really good, making me question if Lupin suffers from the **Umamusume effect**.
**Umamusume effect (noun)**
**Meaning:** When an anime that is not widely known outside Japan still receives a surprisingly high budget and top-tier production because it is extremely popular, profitable, or strategically important within Japan.
Coined by me.
Anyway, The Immortal Bloodline was a good movie with tons of action, and it looked good overall. It continues from the past movie and leads up to the next movie very well. My favourite part would be the main villain, Muom, because I just found his powers to be interesting and how the crew manages his powers. They also had some mortal kombat xray breaking bone scenes that I thought were cool. Overall, I think it's a 7/10. I haven't watched all the Lupin movies, but I have watched a few. I just think it lacked a central theme, emotion or character change, but that's fine, as I think it's just trying to be fun. Enlighten me on whether there is more meaning to these movies, or if it's just for fun?
Is this a sign that you should get into the Lupin series? Probably. At least add it to your to watch list.

Jokes aside,I have watched all of Takeshi Koike’s Lupin related media with the “The woman called Fujiko Mine” being my favourite of the Lupin franchise as a whole
Anyway I haven’t watched this because I didn’t know it got released 😭
(Sidenote : I think that Umamusume got the Lupin effect or even the Detective Conan effect lol)
It might be more popular in Italy than in Japan btw lol
I gave the movie a 6.8 or so. I don't love that it turned out to be a Mamo prequel more than a finale of his works to date, but it still had some nice action and some clever ideas even if I don't love "supernatural" Lupin. In comparison I enjoyed the more grounded prequel quite a bit more.
My favorite film of his in this series was Goemon one. I'd probably rank them Goemon > Zenigata > Jigen > Lupin > Fujiko. The major villains of both Jigen's and Goemon's are in this one, though Jigen's opponent certainly got more highlighted.
The TV series is also a lot of fun. I think the original Part 1 and the first of the new series Part 4 are among the most consistent, but there's also Zero which features Lupin as a kid which is quite good. Part 5 has some great main arcs as well.
