Actually kid friendly anime?
Hello!
My family could really use some help finding some actual kid friendly animes. My little sister has fallen in love with anime and my parents don't want to ban her from watching it, but they don't know anything about it and can't find kid appropriate shows. (They don't have reddit so I'm asking for them).
Thank you!!

What does she like?
Does she watch dub or sub?
What has she watched (that you know of)?
What do your parents find objectionable about it?
This should help narrow down what’s appropriate.
I remember pirating DBZ for the first time and being very surprised to see a five year old Gohan running around junk akimbo, as five year olds running around at home are wont to do
Ghibli films, or a similar equivalent, are probably what I'd suggest to begin with. Stuff like Howl's Moving Castle were good enough to transcend into the mainstream when they were released. If they can convince their parents to become fans unknowingly in the process, then everything else is much easier moving forward
* Most Ghibli Movies, but especially
* My Neighbor Totoro
* Kiki's Delivery Service
* Castle in the Sky
* Spirited Away
* Ponyo
* Spy x Family (family friendly action)
* Haikyu (Sports)
* Chihayafuru (Sports-adjacent with a heavy dose of Japanese culture and poetry)
* Mob Psycho 100 (Shounen Action about a super-powerful psychic boy that doesn't like fighting or violence)
* Baby Steps (Tennis Sports Anime about a boy who's not super talented but wins through tactics and effort)
* Cells at Work! (anthromophized red blood cell is the main character and you learn about how different types of cells in the body work as anthromorphized characters in various adventures, like a cut on your skin (platelets!), or having a cold (immune cells of different types))
* Chibimaruko Chan (Classic comedy/slice of life about a 3rd grade girl who's lazy but charming--one of the most popular Japanese anime of all time in Japan, on par with Disney in the US--on Netflix)
* Doraemon (another classic anime about a boy who's future descendant sends a robot named Doraemon from the future to save him from his fate--comedy/adventure, also one of the most famous kids' anime of all time and on Netflix)
So sports anime was a big entry point for my son. He LOVES Haikyu, and that's probably his favorite anime. The combination of exciting action with nobody getting physically hurt I think is just right for him. my son also really likes Chihayafuru, but that's the one I"m most uncertain if it's available as a dub.
My daughter loves Spy x Family especially for the scenes with Anya and she also really liked Chibimaruko-chan. Kiki's delivery service is her favorite movie and we've watched it like a dozen times lol.
There's pretty much blood splatter every third episode, there's the occasional torture scene, and eventually you see people get shot and killed.
Under 10 is very much a depends on the kid recommendation as a result.
The core story is great - but the violence will be disturbing for some kids.
For reference for anyone who might not know, Made in Abyss looks like a cute happy adventure if you just look at the cover art, in reality it’s one of the most violent/messed up things you can watch. (It’s absolutely great if you like that kind of thing, but it’s definitely not appropriate for this post).

If you have a Netflix kids account set up for her, it includes a number of anime (Haikyuu and Kimi ni Todoke stood out to me) and animated series from Korea and China. My daughter was briefly infatuated with Catch! Teenieping, a South Korean 3D-animated magical girl show with a really *dire* dub. Quality can be variable but everything should be general-audiences and dubbed.
It has an amazing dub, is unbearably cute, and the food looks great.
Japan doesn't consider the same things as social taboos so often times even kids shows will have what we in the west wouldn't consider age appropriate but I've seen about 100 episodes of Pre Cure and it's about as clean as you can get while also being really good
* King Ranking
* K-On
* Usagi Drop
* Bocchi the Rock
* Spy x Family
* Mob Psycho 100
* Ya Boy Kongming!
I would consider these to be all kid-safe, though some shows like Mob Psycho, King Ranking and Spy x Family might have some mild violence or dive into heavier topics. I dunno how old she is or what your parents would consider to be acceptable.
If you want to be *really* safe, then probably stick with SoL shows like K-On, but I don't think that's necessary.
But if cartoon violence is ok, like funny hahaha fighting no blood no death ninja fight, then maybe Nintama Rantaro, it is made for kids and also a very long running show like Chibi Maruko Chan, it is actually longer.
I grow up with those two, along with Doraemon, but I don't think Doraemon is kid appropriate, Nobita is a pervert afterall and you know what that means.
To add to the list, two of my favorite anime (both for the same reason actually) are Dr. Stone and Ruri Rocks.
Dr. Stone is about a genius High School kid that because of plot reasons has to rebuild human society from the ground up. There’s some action, some comedy, and a whole lot of real world science in how the kid does what he does. Accurate enough science that they have to add disclaimers telling kids the stuff they show is dangerous and should only be done with supervision.
Ruri Rocks is about a girl who absolutely adores shiny stuff and teams up with a college student (honestly I’m unsure of the ages of the two main characters) to hunt for precious metals and gemstones. There’s lots of real geology and rock science put in.
Cells at Work (which has been suggested by at least one other person) is another good somewhat educational one too. Lots of action though cause it’s all anthropomorphized human cells and how they work inside the body including how white cells fight off germs and stuff.
***Medalist*** {Second seasons starting in 2 weeks} a elementary school girl learns to iceskate and wants to go to the olympics.
***Aoashi*** : Sports anime about soccer
***Blue Lock***: another sports anime about soccer
***Hinomaru Sumo***: Sports Anime about Sumo
***Ranking of Kings***: but you might want to double check this one. I forget if it might be to scary for a kid (Depending on their age)
***Uma Musume: Cinderella Grey:*** fairly popular, Horse girls race. Actually wholesome and a sports anime
***Sugar Apple Fairy Tale*** : great story,
Bofuri is generally safe
Shangri-La Frontier only has language really. And if they're good with subs, the language is actually tamer than the dub.
Violence in both cases is digitized since the story mostly takes place in a video game.
It centres around 3 students making their own high school club about making Anime.
The flights of imagination are great, laugh out loud moments. No nudity, no swearing, no fighting.
Digimon Adventures in on Disney+!
Natsume's Book of Friends
BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense
Good luck :)
