Looking for animes with queer background romance
To specify: I enjoy romance in anime, even the smallest bit, but I don’t typically enjoy something mainly or solely centered around romance. Good examples of this for me are Natsu and Lucy in Fairy Tail, Meryl and Vash in Trigun, Maka and Soul (Though they can be interpreted as friends) in soul eater, or Ed and Winry in Fullmetal Alchemist.

Madoka Magica
Ok i know it probably won't match for what you want but i just want to recommend this series.
Just didn't want to mention the MC's since it's something that doesn't actually happen in the anime atleast.
isekai/adventure/yuri
And Mili did the OP song ;-)
Double Decker likewise has a secondary lesbian couple.
It kind of sounds like you want series where there's a main couple who are clearly an item, or going to be, but there's still an ongoing plot unrelated to the romance. And shows like that generally have to be MUCH more clear that the main couple is in fact really together than in het, or else they won't be considered canon. So I'm not sure if you want series with strong ship-bait, or if you want the kind of series where the wedding rings glint audibly every time they're shown.
You have to have seen Revolutionary Girl Utena, right? If not, go and watch it.
Yuri on Ice is a sports anime/romance about competitive figure skaters. M/M, and while you'll encounter people disputing how canon the ship is I will fight those people. Those men kissed on camera on international TV.
Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is a mecha series with a lot of homages to Utena, including the fact that the main pairing is F/F. This is a standalone title - you don't need to know anything about Gundam to watch it.
Edited to add: The Summer Hikaru Died is a horror series. Yoshiki is a deeply closeted gay teenager living in a judgmental small town that seems to have a lot of dark supernatural secrets and an extremely haunted mountain, and he's in love with his best friend, Hikaru. Hikaru goes missing on the haunted mountain, and then he comes back Wrong, but now that his body's inhabited by an eldritch horror he seems to return Yoshiki's feelings. This series is *excellent.* Normally I'm a giant weenie about horror in visual media but for this series I make an exception.
Madoka Magica is a dark magical girl show. It's one of those "heavy shipbait" series, where the girls aren't *explicitly* interested in each other but their bonds are just as crucial to the story as a romance would be in a het story, the creators know and expect you to ship them, and the merchandise will feature popular couples. This is a category of series that's often derided as "queerbait" in Western fandom circles by fans who want to see canon representation, but if you're in it for the emotions (I always am) the emotions are intense here.
Free! is an extremely shipbait-y sports/SOL series about high school swimmers. Lots of shirtless boys having very strong feelings about each other. Lots of fanservice for people who like looking at shirtless dudes and don't mind that none of them have nipples. None of it is canon but none of it *isn't* canon, either.
Sk8 the Infinity is more recent, another sports anime (skateboarding, this time) from the same director who did Free! It likewise has a bunch of guys who are set up as very obvious pairings, which the creators and fandom all acknowledge. The dub actors for this series had a *lot* of fun with all the shipping.
If so I feel like you would love Lycoris Recoil
