SSSS Gridman needs no prerequisite viewing. Maybe you just need to rewatch (possibly more attentively). Dynazenon benefits from watching Gridman first, however

Thanks what about movies of both seasons

mekerpan2026-01-15 18:00

Not sure that compilation movies add anything significant -- but Gridman Universe is a sequel to the other two shows. (I found this disappointing as it was almost entirely actiony -- with little interesting character development and interaction, unlike the two seasons before it).

I found Universe to be quite focused on Yuta's group, almost like the writers were trying to make up for the lack of character building attention on them back in Gridman (because it was so plot focused).

I was also rather disappointed that Universe never really answered Dynazenon's question of who unleashed the kaiju seeds and possibly resurrected the Eugenicists.

I had hoped to enjoy the movie, but it fell flat for me. Dynazenon was definitely the high point of this series.

I suggested the OG watch thread on this subreddit. There was usually some commentaries about the context or lore snippets. Also the voice drama, adding quite a few things iirc.

As for the ending [Gridman EP12] >!Akane/Rikka woke up from her virtual world and decided to face the reality heads on instead of fleeing any longer. The last voice drama is about the trio meeting the pretty purple haired girl who Akane borrowed the appearance from. !<

I haven't seen it in forever, but if I remember it correctly:

[SSSS Gridman spoilers]>!The whole world was an imaginary world that a depressed Akane created for herself. She created the main girl to be her best friend and the main boy to be her boyfriend. Because she was a depressed mess she became the villain in her fantasy world, detached from the characters she had created for herself.!<

[more Gridman]>!The end was her leaving that fantasy world and re-entering the real world.!<

What about gridman and alixes are they imaginary too or they are some intelligent being who travel in imaginary world

sonicstorm11142026-01-16 17:20

They're real. [Gridman] >!"Imaginary" may be a bit of a misnomer; a better term would probably be "virtual", since the show takes place inside the Computer World from the original series. Akane created the show's world and can control it, but it also exists even when she's not present.!<

Like a video game
and am I missing some previous shows of same series

sonicstorm11142026-01-16 19:34

1. Yes, at least that's how I've always viewed it

2. There's Gridman the Hyper Agent from the 1990s (it's live-action, not an anime), but I don't think it's required viewing outside of a few references. (From what I understand, the 90s show's a pretty episodic "monster of the week" affair and Gridman's the only returning character from the original.) IIRC, SSSS.GRIDMAN was meant to be a newcomer-friendly reboot and [SSSS.GRIDMAN] >!I think the fact that it's a sequel and not a full on reboot was originally supposed to be a twist!< .
