#[Nominations for this year's superlatives (Favorite Episode, Best Duo, Worst Anime) are now live!](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qdk0ff/ranimes_superlatives_of_2025_voting_favorite/?)
Anyway, another great year of anime! Biggest surprise for me was Demon Slayer being all the way down at #34. I'd say "oh well it's a movie and people were more likely to vote for series" but then Chainsaw Man was #3, so I really have no idea. On that note:

Maomao on top! And by quite a decent margin too. Thought that one of the action shonens would have taken top spot.
Glad to see some of the more niche shows like Watatabe and Ninkoro sneaking in too.
Fl_Funky_Jam2026-01-15 15:06
I think drama loving moms are the deciding factor here 😆 I've seen so many post of "my mom binged Apothecary Diaries, what next?
ceribaen2026-01-15 15:15
Apocalypse Hotel at no 5 is also a great result for an anime original that has just 12 episodes.
Definitely a peak show.
Mukaido2026-01-15 15:20
What an experience that watch was. Definitely a hidden gem.
I can’t stop shilling for it, so I’ll copy and paste a comment I made on another reply for those who haven’t watched it yet or got it on their watch list:
> Apocalypse Hotel was an amazing watch. SoL and some comedy with hints of melancholy due to the overarching theme of whats going on around them. Incredible atmosphere too. Lovable characters. I absolutely fell in love with it.
santaclaws012026-01-15 17:52
I don't think those moms would be voting in this poll.
Hitman71282026-01-15 15:28
Yeah, I was pretty happy that Watatabe and Ninkoro made it on along with Ruri Rocks, considering I mostly watch CGDCT/yuri
qef152026-01-15 16:10
Ruri Rocks is honestly such a great show, actually educational while still providing great characters with quite the fanservice to boot? Absolute cinema.
Hitman71282026-01-15 16:53
Nagi stonks increase
[](#mugiwait)
PsychoGeek2026-01-15 15:28
> Maomao on top! And by quite a decent margin too.
Yeah, but Takopi still has higher number of 1st place rankings, which will make it the frontrunner for the r/anime awards vote which doesn't have a points based system.
Practical-Garden39912026-01-15 15:34
Honestly, it feels correct. As much as I love a good sakuga-fest, Maomao carries her show with pure charisma and competence. It’s rare for a character-driven mystery to gap the field like that, but absolutely deserved.
MrsLucienLachance2026-01-15 15:46
Maomao right where she belongs 💜
Successful_Elk51472026-01-15 16:01
I think the shonen vote got split too hard this year. Too many heavy hitters airing in the same seasons (Fall was a bloodbath), whereas Maomao just consistently dominated the karma rankings every week she aired.
iozoepxndx2026-01-15 16:56
Medalist being that high up is amazing too! 👌
TheDestroyer6302026-01-15 14:51
People still have a hate boner for Re:Zero huh
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 14:55
This poll doesn't have a mechanism for voters to express hate. People can only express their love for their favorites.
imtherealdazza2026-01-15 15:01
I'm kinda surprised it was so low, especially considering it was top 10 last year
But honestly I think a good chunk of the anime above it were better than the back half of season 3 and scratched that itch better then RZ did for me
Severe_Working_59342026-01-15 15:29
This was a favourite anime poll, 2025 was stacked, while ReZero is extremely popular in this sub, people did not vote for it as their favourite show of 2025
ixidorsDreams2026-01-15 14:52
Something seems super wrong that Infinity Castle did not make Top 25.
Like that’s not an oddity that’s an error LOL
MHA had a legendary final season and it got 18th. I am officially calling BS on this there aint no way those two things are true.
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 14:59
Was definitely surprised about Infinity Castle. I even went back to the voting thread, since a bunch of people inevitably post their lists, and barely anyone mentioned it.
3HaDeS32026-01-15 15:00
Infinity castle is just one long TikTok clip to distract yourself of thinking
mrnicegy262026-01-15 15:11
No it isn't ?
Like it has pacing issues but it also has significant development and resolution for Demon Slayer as a whole wrapped in a gorgeous package filled with some of the best spectacle in the business. I have seen Sinners, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another in the theaters and none of them had the audience in my theaters as captive as Infinity Castle did, whether it was the excitement of the fights or sadness of some of the tearjerker moments.
This contrarianism around Demon Slayer that exists in r/anime is so needlessly snobbish and obnoxious. So much hate towards series like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen for being popular and beloved by the mainstream audience.
DireSickFish2026-01-15 15:05
Infinity Castle sucked as a movie. It did not tell a complete story and would have worked better as episodes. It may have made ALL THE MONEY, but that doesn't mean it was a masterpiece.
ImBoredButAndTired2026-01-15 15:13
Infinity Castle came across like 6 episodes of a TV show stitched together. I wasnt the biggest fan of the Chainsaw Man show, but the Chainsaw Man Movie felt like I was watching something that was intended to be a movie. It took advantage of its medium in a way Demon Slayer didn't.
steven48692026-01-15 15:24
Demon Slayer is not popular in this sub, I am more surprised with how Solo Levelling made it to top-25.
amor1216162026-01-15 14:52
Takopi’s original sin at 2!🥹but also love seeing apocathery diaries at 1! And chainsaw man reze arc, apocalypse hotel and orb on the movement on earth so on top !❤️
___Chud___2026-01-15 15:11
> Takopi’s original sin at 2!
I reckon the ending could have been written slightly better, but despite that still loved the experience and the overall story / package. Definitely something I will recommend to others in the future.
SupperTime2026-01-15 15:24
Agreed. Ending was too fast. It needed another episode I think.
adamsworstnightmare2026-01-15 19:11
>Takopi’s original sin 2
I misread it like this and thought "please NO MORE".
Regula962026-01-15 14:54
I did not like Apothecary as much in the second season. Felt like a step down and I also don't think it helped that I watched it weekly instead of binging like I did the first. There's so many callbacks and small details that you just cannot remember months later.
0ptriX2026-01-15 15:11
I agree. I bet I'm going to have to study a fucking family tree again next season too.
For me, ~~NANDODEMO~~ Orb is perpetually underrated, even at #6 here.
But what is MASSIVELY underrated is Call of the Night S2. It was *really* fucking good, even better than S1.
Regula962026-01-15 15:28
I actually plan to continue with Orb! I watched 2 episodes but for some reason wasn't in the mood despite really liking it.
0ptriX2026-01-15 15:32
Episode 3 is pretty pivotal.
Pioorek2026-01-15 16:26
Finally a fellow Call of the Night enjoyer :) I was blown away by how good S2 was, both in terms of production and plot. But checking reddit discussions after every episode was painful as karma was so low This season really deserves more recognition.
Zard912026-01-15 14:54
Agree with no1 for sure with this list but if Lord of Mysteries was eligible it's between those two for me.
Nin9-G42026-01-15 14:56
Nah lotmid have terrible story telling & their fan toxic asf telling new watcher doesn't have enough iq to understand it
15th_anynomous2026-01-15 14:54
Reddit is really good at making lists. I like this one too. I only wish that Orb was higher, inside top 3 (#1 for me personally). Well it's only coming from me as a science-maths nerd. What do you guys think though?
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 15:01
> Reddit is really good at making lists
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But we tend to at least have pretty decent variety, which is nice to see.
Ani_Nexus2026-01-15 14:56
Damn good listing
renatocpr2026-01-15 14:58
Ninkoro mentioned?
VancityGaming2026-01-15 18:20
Just barely but I'll take it
manquistador2026-01-15 20:31
Did it get a decent amount of late watchers? I always felt like the episode threads were kind of empty.
DqrkExodus2026-01-16 00:29
I was one of them, I only started watching it after stumbling across the ending theme a month after the anime ended. Great show
qwertyqwerty45672026-01-15 14:58
Dandadan and Takopi in top 5 is crazy
steven48692026-01-15 15:27
Nah, Takopi was pretty good. Anime especially did a wonderful job and elevated manga as a whole.
3HaDeS32026-01-15 14:58
Literally nothing happened in Dress up darling season 2. They made absolutely 0 progress. It felt like a filler arc. I can’t be the only one who thought that
Moshimoshi-Megumin2026-01-15 15:10
You’re not but as far as I know that’s basically how the rest of the series will be. I’ve been told repeatedly I’m wrong for wanting more romance or drama as it’s mainly a slice of life about cosplay.
melindypants2026-01-15 15:14
I've read from comments that at its core it is more of a cosplay/character driven story instead of an outright romance. The anime puts more focus on the romance so in that aspect, yes "nothing" happened BUT Gojou showed some significant development imo, which was great!
ceribaen2026-01-15 15:18
I thought it stronger than Season 1.
Organic relationship growth, and a solid celebration of fandom.
ClemFire2026-01-15 15:28
S2 was better for me too. The romance in Dress-Up was always good but what separated it from other shows of its genre for me is its strong message of being proud of what you love. My favorite show in 2025
steven48692026-01-15 15:26
Again it's the rankings for the favorites not the best, if you like the show what else is stopping you to not make it your favorite.
carcatta2026-01-15 15:00
Three yuri animes in top 25, quite good.
zairaner2026-01-15 15:10
Ave mujica just barely missing out at #26/162 points!
Hitman71282026-01-15 15:32
Heeding the call for yuri!
I thoroughly enjoyed every yuri last year, and it's nice to see it gaining more traction
Waste-Astronomer-3262026-01-15 15:41
We are truly living in the Golden Age. A few years ago we'd be begging just for subtext, now we're getting full adaptations with actual budget. What a time to be alive.
__T0MMY__2026-01-15 16:01
We got TWO yaoi ones this season!!
Comprehensive_Dog6512026-01-15 15:00
Ones that I actually make me consider watching are the ones with a disproportionate amount of Gold, shows passion
zool7142026-01-15 15:00
No arguments for No 1 spot from me.
My personal top is probably Food For The Soul but it’s down at 30
Maybe I should check out Apocalypse Hotel.
Very happy to see Ogurin and Marin that high up
Can’t wait to see Inori on ice again
Maybe an unpopular opinion but felt Fragrant Flower was good but nothing special. I’d put it alongside Blue Box. I Have A Crush At Work is one I’d put higher though.
But looking through the list honestly just brings back memories of so many shows in the past year. It was an enjoyable year.
melindypants2026-01-15 15:10
I feel the same way about both Fragrant Flower and Blue Box, with Fragrant Flower being a tiny bit better. I do wish someone licensed Crush at Work because I havent seen it and only heard great things - we need more adult cast romance!
Mukaido2026-01-15 15:12
Apocalypse Hotel was an amazing watch. SoL and some comedy with hints of melancholy due to the overarching theme of whats going on around them. Incredible atmosphere too. Lovable characters. I absolutely fell in love with it.
Apocalypse Hotel and The Summer Hikaru Died both made by Cygames. They are on a roll.
JMB_Smash2026-01-15 16:30
Three Cygames Series in the top ten. They did really well this year.
ceribaen2026-01-15 15:18
100% check out Apocalypse Hotel
It's one of those genre hopping shows, which does homages to various other eras... If I had to stick it in a box, I might go with absurdist dark comedy. But even that isn't totally accurate.
Ace-Of-Diamonds62026-01-15 15:00
Wow what a fall from grace for ReZero
DueSeaworth2026-01-15 15:06
My goat might be washed...
Lepworra2026-01-15 15:06
just a stacked year imo
Icemna162026-01-15 15:28
Nah, this season was significantly worse than the 2 before it imo
steven48692026-01-15 15:22
I reckon people would have thought Re:Zero as 24 anime not the 25, even I didn't vote for Re:Zero thinking it aired in 2024.
ClemFire2026-01-15 15:25
Same I treat seasons as when they air not finish
Civil-Initial29422026-01-15 15:28
I remember the second cour started around February, and many people here didn’t even realize there was the continuation of the third season. Compared to the first half of season 3, the second had much less motion.
mmcjawa_reborn2026-01-15 16:40
Less a fall for grace I think than just a really strong year.
Be curious to see how season 4 does given the arc its covering...
AmberLeafSmoke2026-01-15 15:02
Surprised Solo leveling is so low. Nothing even remotely groundbreaking story wise but the animation is very crisp and it's extremely popular.
peenweens2026-01-15 15:07
On the contrary, I thought it was way too high.
AmberLeafSmoke2026-01-15 15:16
Really? I'm not even saying that regarding the quality, just that it's very popular.
steven48692026-01-15 15:26
It's definitely very high for this sub, Solo Levelling gets bashed left and right in this sub.
SkyburnerTheBest2026-01-15 15:02
This Monster Wants to Eat Me making the list was the only thing I was wishing for, 23rd is a really welcome result!
Hitman71282026-01-15 15:33
That was an incredible show with the OP living rent free in my head.
It's not for everyone because of how heavy it was, but Reina Ueda was the perfect role for our MC
Gold-Doctor-39692026-01-15 15:58
How to make a great show without high production values. The direction, music and the VAs for me are the major factors that elevated this show.
Akipella2026-01-16 00:52
GG, well deserved
N7CombatWombat2026-01-15 15:03
Hey, I've seen four of those, that's not bad considering how bad my taste is.
Derallerechtere2026-01-15 15:05
Would have never expected to see apocalypse hotel on this list and even at 5!
Expensive-Ad71812026-01-15 15:05
Really nice to see Takopi so high in the list. It was my favorite anime of 2025. Medalist was also excellent.
tripleaamin2026-01-15 15:05
My AOTY Apocalypse Hotel at #5!!!!!!!!
I haven't watched S3 yet, but Re:Zero is surprisingly lower than I expected. Also surprised no Demon Slayer.
DireSickFish2026-01-15 15:06
Boom!
Usodearu0072026-01-15 15:07
people must have forgotten that the second half of re:zero S3 aired in 2025.
nafissyed2026-01-15 15:29
I think the result is fair for what it’s worth, and I can only hope that fans can become more enamoured by S4 which will be adapting the arc that most of us consider to be the zenith of the series.
SnooPets90592026-01-15 15:31
i would still place it a bit high than 19th place
nafissyed2026-01-15 15:35
That’s fair and I do think it deserves a much higher rating too, but I am a patient person. I know that the staff are working very hard for the new season to pop off well, so I have faith that if S4 does well, it will reflect off positively for the fans that wish to see it succeed even further per se.
Usodearu0072026-01-15 15:39
it had the second highest karma avg this year. its alright. its just that being a winter show is already penalizing enough if you look at the other shows.. so only 8 eps aired at the start of the year is basically a death sentence.
AnIcedMilk2026-01-15 15:43
Will it have a certain loop that i seem to hear a lot about?
[Re:Zero Spoilers maybe] >!An extremely short loop of like 10 seconds or something!<
PsychoGeek2026-01-15 15:34
They didn't forget Orb tho, or Frieren/Apothecary in last year's poll
Usodearu0072026-01-15 15:47
they were all new shows and naturally people wont easily forget about new gems like those. but the bigger problem is that for re:zero, it was only 8 eps at the start of the year. i have seen many forget that it actually ended in 2025..
GlitterDoomsday2026-01-15 17:09
Seasons divided in parts usually hurts how the show performs in rankings like this.
aimglitchz2026-01-15 23:29
They need to really call each part a proper season
LakerBlue2026-01-15 17:37
I did and I’d say it was my favorite show in the list. I also tend to think of a show in the season it starts. It’d be different if it was a traditional split cour like Dandadan…
noobjaish2026-01-15 21:37
ReZero S3 feels like it aired ages ago lol
DueSeaworth2026-01-15 15:07
Apothecary and Takopi on top!
NeoAnkara2026-01-15 15:07
Ave Mujica barely missed it
bigfndan2026-01-15 15:07
So glad to see Apocalypse Hotel so high. Just an incredible ride from beginning to end,
Phyrexian_Overlord2026-01-15 15:08
A good list
cosmiccerulean2026-01-15 15:10
Call of the night yeah!
actuallyrndthoughts2026-01-15 15:12
And here i thought Shoushimin was an underrated hidden gem. Though City this high? I was sure it flew under the radar forever slated as a "not that funny, SoL series"
Looks like it was a good year for anime
Psyduckisnotaduck2026-01-15 21:20
The people who were negative about City were noisy but a minority who fell off and moved on, the series is only going to go up in estimation as time passes.
VergilVDante2026-01-15 15:13
I don’t see the love around Apothecary dairies like S2 final arc pales in comparison to Re:zero ,MDUD,Medalist,Orb had
Especially some of the reveals you have to go back to some random episode just to remember it’s reference
Eat_Bullet2026-01-15 15:13
Apocalypse hotel was heart touching
Civil-Initial29422026-01-15 15:15
A lot of surprises. I thought Re:Zero and Clevatess would be ranked higher, while SL, Apocalypse Hotel, and My Dress-Up Darling would be lower…
Well, for me, the second season of My Dress-Up Darling barely deserves a spot in the top 50… it felt muuuuuch weaker than the first season.
The same goes a bit for Apothecary Diaries, the second season also seemed slightly worse to me.
LeZeroY2026-01-15 15:16
I find it interesting that Dress up Darling scored that high despite having so few #1-3 picks.
deuceintheplace2026-01-15 15:16
Wait I missed the voting period for this I’m so mad!!
zairaner2026-01-15 15:16
Ninkoro sneaking in at 25? Holy shit we won.
Actually, the directly >=25 are all goated, ninkoro at 25, ave mujica at 26 and 100 gfs at 27. Actually I would have expected 100gfs higher, but I guess it being a winter show is a debuff.
Medalist being so low is the one true disappointment.
Ocixo2026-01-15 17:48
I can still be happy with Medalist getting a spot in the top 10.
I do wish that Shoshimin, Ruri Rocks and Ninkoro would’ve ranked a bit higher. I really thought that the first two would land a ranking in the top half too.
TableBaboon2026-01-15 18:31
Im just glad Medalist showed up, it feels like it aired ages ago for some reason
JzanderN2026-01-15 22:15
> Medalist being so low is the one true disappointment.
Then you have me being hyped that it's in the top 10 at all! **Let's go!**
Real_eXwhY_Z2026-01-15 15:19
TAD TAD TAD APO APO APO MAOMAO SHOW 🔛🔝
Surprised ReZero is so low, even if it was 8 eps. Shoutout Reze Arc
Charming-Loquat37022026-01-15 15:20
I probably would have put Medalist a little bit higher, bit that's might be, because the anime made me read the manga within like 3 episodes and the manga is amazing. Objectively, the anime suffers a little bit from not having animation on the same level as the manga id drawn. But honestly, that might not be possible with a TV budget
MewinMoose2026-01-15 15:22
I only remember watching Takopeak last year and DMC dropped apothecary
GokaiRed642026-01-15 15:22
We don't deserve Orb.
KumaKumaGambler2026-01-15 15:23
Geography class in anime format made it into the top 25. Ruri Rocks!
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 15:25
Geology, but I digress
DESTRUCTER_R_2026-01-15 15:24
apothecary diaries deserved it. I loved that anime. peak, the pacing, plot are very well balanced
Oarner__2026-01-15 15:24
watch half the comments here be about hating solo leveling
Dokrabackchod2026-01-15 15:24
Shoshimin somehow felt nostalgic, like I was watching 2013 anime, it was so good
Someone_Someone_7072026-01-15 15:24
I like this list a lot and agree with most of the ranking except spy x family.. It should be higher
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 16:12
I feel like Spy x Family has always been the kind of show that a lot of people like, but not a ton of people really *love*. Winds up with a lot of votes on the lower end, but not many of the #1-3 votes that really bolster the top stuff.
UnloadedFour3142026-01-15 15:24
I'm so glad to see Apothecary Diaries on top, it was my anime of the year. I couldn't wait after the end of s2, so I decided to dive into the LNs, and wow the books are excellent! The writing is amazing and the story keeps getting better and better. Definitely one of my favorite pieces of media of all time.
No_Dragonfruit_93902026-01-15 15:25
City the animation, apocalypse hotel, shoushimin series. Finally these animes are on the chart.
People here really have good tastes👍
Severe_Working_59342026-01-15 15:26
Great list, Happy that Orb made it into top 10, Hikaru in 10th spot is also good.
Wished Gachiakuta was a bit higher as I really enjoyed it and after S1 I also started reading the manga and almost caught up with latest chapters. I am surprised to see Shoshimin this high even above big titles like MHA & SL. Also great to see Cleavetss & Ruri Rocks in there.
Careless_Reply28622026-01-15 15:27
Where is to be hero x?
FetchFrosh2026-01-15 15:32
Not eligible
Careless_Reply28622026-01-15 15:28
Uma musume Cinderella gray made me read the whole manga and download the manga never have I realized horse racing could be this cap as in peak
Renphalos2026-01-15 15:29
Thanks for putting this together. I have a number to add to my list.
Hitman71282026-01-15 15:30
Dang, Watanare has a considerable number of 1st place votes relative to the other anime near its position
Even though I mostly watch CGDCT/yuri that are not as popular as other shows last year, I am pretty happy with this
Psyduckisnotaduck2026-01-15 21:22
Kaho arc really bumped it up for me, especially with that peak ending. *braces for vanilla prudes whingeing*
Kooky-Library-84642026-01-15 15:30
Glad to see City THE ANIMATION at top 11. Animation is so creative and good
steven48692026-01-15 15:31
Looks like a year for CyGames, three anime in the top-10 and all of them were great.
ScarletSyntax2026-01-15 15:59
And they did the music for silent witch too, which was one of the strong points
ClemFire2026-01-15 15:34
I am happy to see My Dress Up Darling S2 in the top 10. Know not even liked it as much as S1, but personally I loved the focus on all the side characters whose stories tie into the story’s heart of being proud of what you love. My top show from 2025, and one I’ll be going back to many times.
I also love to see that both Ruri Rocks and Watatabe sneaked into the top 25 as those were my other two favorites.
HelloMagikarphowRyou2026-01-15 15:34
No 100 kanojo or Nukitashi? BLASPHEMY
thepixelmurderer2026-01-15 15:34
Very happy to see Shoushimin making the list! It's the only 10/10 series I watched in 2025 personally.
LunarScholar2026-01-15 15:34
Dang Lycoris Recoil really underperformed, big sad.
SadAnimator13542026-01-15 15:38
I'm glad My Dress Up Darling made top 10
ExpiringMilknCheese2026-01-15 15:38
You know what I find interesting,
despite Solo leveling having the highest Karma average out of any show in 2025, it only came in 19th here.
I guess because it came out in winter, people just forgot, same with Re zero
DeadCaveman2026-01-15 18:26
Honestly I think it's just a matter of participation; most of the users who contributed to those high karma scores simply didn't contribute to this community poll.
Henry16992026-01-15 15:41
At 27th place, 100 Girlfriends missed out showing up in the top 25. Bummer.
dimyo2026-01-15 15:42
I see people that liked Muri Muri and City REALLY liked it.
Ahrix32026-01-15 15:43
This sub seems to be full of liberal arts students. Well, at least Solo Leveling is only barely inside the top 20.
Rickud1232026-01-15 15:44
No surprises here
ImDeAdBrB2026-01-15 15:45
Wouldn't it make more sense to use karma to decide the favorite anime ?
Likes2game032026-01-15 15:47
I've watched 50 new anime (not including new seasons) from 2025 and not even 10 of them made it on here.
mel2kill2026-01-15 15:52
Orb!!! Clevates!!! Happy for these two!
but what about Dr. Stone? This last season was *chef kiss*
xbolt902026-01-15 15:53
Apocalypse Hotel made the top 5!
My surprise favorite of the year. I need to go get a shower hat to celebrate…
RottenPingu12026-01-15 15:54
Awesome...Bad Girl at #57.
CJO98762026-01-15 15:54
How did Cinderella Gray *barely* crack the Top 10 and how did City the Animation miss the Top 10 entirely? This list is not good.
halbeshendel2026-01-15 15:55
3 yuri on the list. Fucking awesome.
cmszd2026-01-15 15:57
no hyakuemu?
NintendoMasterNo12026-01-15 15:58
Shoshimin goated
Loverboy_912026-01-15 17:56
Agreed. Pleasantly surprised to see it as high up as it is. The art direction and voice acting was in a league of its own this past year, and I don’t say that lightly.
NintendoMasterNo12026-01-15 18:01
It's funny because I discovered Youmiya Hina because of MyGO right before watching Shoshimin so I experienced her greatness back to back and now she's one of the VAs who will make me watch a show specifically because she's in a lead role.
Earthborn922026-01-16 00:58
Now if only we could get more Hyouka....
AwwZomSam2026-01-15 15:59

Same here! This is what I get for not paying attention to the subreddit for a few days.
Drayenn2026-01-15 16:00
I feel the rankings dont represent the hype i read here lol.
Im always amazed at how popular apothecary diaries is. Its a good show but i wouldve never guessed itd end up being no1.
Falsus2026-01-16 00:56
To put things into perspective, even before The Apothecary Diaries season 1 it was already the 5th best selling LN franchise of all time, with almost twice as many sales as something like Re:Zero had.
Since then it has gone on to become the 2# most sold LN franchise of all time and it will almost certainly take the top spot since the 1# (slime) is finished but The Apothecary Diaries is not. (though Index will retake the 1# spot out of sheer tenacity eventually probably).
Retromorpher2026-01-16 06:51
There was a time where BOTH adaptations of Apothecary Diaries were on the top 10 best sellers for manga.
ssnoopy22222026-01-16 10:33
I'd say that's because reddit doesn't really intersect with the mainstream as often as redditors think. This ranking is definitely not respective of the popularity of some of these shows this last year.
Nettysocks2026-01-15 16:00
I’m only surprised on Fragrant Flowers but I think that was a show that seem like every other romance and didn’t hit for me but did for everyone else.
This is a good list to chuck at someone though for anyone asking if they missed an anything from this season.
I need to get on Ruri Rocks
Thick-Appointment7622026-01-15 16:01
Never even heard of number two and I try to watch a good chunk of every airing season.
Did it launch on some obscure platform?

There are 26 righteous people who understand the greatness of the Medalist, and I have the honor to number among them.
6/10 of my top 10 of 2025 are represented, so my tastes seem to align fairly well with the sub general population.
HarshTheDev2026-01-15 16:32
Cleavatess snubbed. I expected better from you r/anime smh
FlaviusVespasian2026-01-15 16:42
Cinderella Gray and Dress-Up Darling were lit
Past-Interaction10592026-01-15 16:44
Hell yeah maomao
MapoTofuMan2026-01-15 16:59
Dropped or didn't watch 7 out of the top 10, yep this is an r/anime ranking alright. Glad to see Maomao on top though.
Seeing Re:Zero outside of the yearly top 20 is absolutely wild, imagine showing this to someone in 2016.
abys932026-01-15 17:00
Gachiakuta should be higher and I'm surprised my hero academia is so low given the hype around it at the time
DaFuzi_J2026-01-15 17:14
Secrets of the Silent Witch rounding out the top 15 makes me super happy. It quickly became one of my favorite shows ever.
I wish it got a little more attention than it did, but that entire season of anime was so stacked.

Apothecary Diaries being no.1 is unsurprising but deserved even if it’s not in my top 3.
I honestly forgot ReZero had episodes in 2025 even though it was my favorite thing that aired last year, and I guess other people felt the same lol
I can’t help but wonder how much higher The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity places if not for Netflix “jail”…
Personally I was very underwhelmed by the City but even setting aside my bias I didn’t expect it to place as high as it did. For example, Clevatess’s final episode had 2090 upvotes and 671 comments to City’s 916 upvotes and 221 comments. Not an exact science but you’d expect Clevatess to be higher than City or at minimum much closer.
I’m also curious what made Demon Slayer rank so low especially relative to CSM. It can’t be because it was 1/3 of a trilogy, right?
Puzzleheaded-Ant73672026-01-15 17:54
Maomao made on top! that's really surprising, I thought solo leveling will be the top pic because it got so hype
Shashank_kage2026-01-15 17:54
Reze arc should have been at the top
Double-Conclusion-422026-01-15 21:32
It has the most #1 votes but not as many #2 and #3 votes so I’m guessing a lot of people on this sub still haven’t seen it. It probably would have been #1 if it was streaming.
porpoiseoflife2026-01-15 18:03
And this proves a point for the recent Fall Best Girl vote.
The headline girl for the third-favorite title of the entire year had to fight tooth and nail to get past the headline girl for the *fourty-seventh*-favorite title of the year with just a 23 vote difference. Under this kind of a circumstance in any other season's matchup, Reze would have been the first seed by a mile and have a blowout win in the finals. This just goes to show that Scarlet El Vandimion is such a strong character, and I can't wait for the rematch in BG 26.
Xatu442026-01-15 18:14
Shoshimin mentioned, nice.
TruXander2026-01-15 18:24
I knew it wasn’t going to get high up but Catch Me At the Ballpark was such an underrated gem this year
LittleBoi3232026-01-15 18:27
Kinda surprised not to see Infinity Castle here considering how popular it seemed
cjbobs2026-01-15 18:54
I assume the fact it still isn't legally available for online purchase/streaming is a big part of that.
eksnoblade2026-01-15 19:26
My Hero Academia near the bottom? You love to see it!
Emi_Ibarazakiii2026-01-15 19:26

Maomao coming out on top and Hikaru making top 10 and Watatabe cracking the top 25 are all excellent results.
Lucille_Lucy_Jr2026-01-15 20:23
I would have liked to see Gachiakuta higher up; I couldn't stop laughing at the anime.
SuperShadowStar2026-01-15 20:25
Clevatess is underrated.

Clevatess is such a good show. Definitely need S2 ASAP
EyeDeeAh_422026-01-16 20:54
Fr. It's been a while since I've seen some good old school dark fantasy. Alicia is a very memorable heroine too.
NSFWAbby2026-01-15 21:23
The apothecary diaries was so cute. Honestly even though there's no action, the interactions always amused me. Especially the Brothel!
Nebresto2026-01-15 21:38
Waow! One (1) of my nominations made the top 25!
Crunchymau52026-01-15 22:00
These rankings seem a bit broken, why are people's 3rd place votes get the same amount as their 10th place vote? Should be 1st gets 10, 2nd gets 9,.....10th gets 1.
Mark_Urs2026-01-16 00:33
What do you guys think about gachiakuta? Worth it?
thismise4u2026-01-16 02:17

I'm glad the Apothecary Diaries is getting the respect it deserves.

How is bgs not here? And solo is?
artbystorms2026-01-16 03:04
I loved Apothecary Diaries but Chainsaw Man Reze Arc was my anime of the year. I saw it in theaters and then watched it a couple more times at home.
insertbrackets2026-01-16 03:05
So glad *The Summer Hikaru Died* made the top ten overall. It was such a tremendous production, especially in the way it blended LGBTQ+ themes with eldritch horror, which turned to be a pretty good combination.
brittleknight2026-01-16 03:41
Ahh man I really enjoyed clevatess. Thought it would have been higher up.
crazybartur2026-01-16 03:51
Damn, Rascal does not dream just barely missed out on making the list
apatt2026-01-16 04:30
Aw.. My favourite anime Ranma 1/2 placed at 53. Good list otherwise.
dfiekslafjks2026-01-16 05:05
Everyone acting surprised their favorite show is on the list when the only people who voted are literally people from this sub lol.
Commentaires
Anyway, another great year of anime! Biggest surprise for me was Demon Slayer being all the way down at #34. I'd say "oh well it's a movie and people were more likely to vote for series" but then Chainsaw Man was #3, so I really have no idea. On that note:
#[Full Top 100 Available Here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AWrNKR62SfgqYKneKf0NUe_WIIsCL7jf1CZq1eoxr40/edit?usp=sharing)
Glad to see some of the more niche shows like Watatabe and Ninkoro sneaking in too.
Definitely a peak show.
[](#mugiwait)
Yeah, but Takopi still has higher number of 1st place rankings, which will make it the frontrunner for the r/anime awards vote which doesn't have a points based system.
But honestly I think a good chunk of the anime above it were better than the back half of season 3 and scratched that itch better then RZ did for me
Like that’s not an oddity that’s an error LOL
MHA had a legendary final season and it got 18th. I am officially calling BS on this there aint no way those two things are true.
I reckon the ending could have been written slightly better, but despite that still loved the experience and the overall story / package. Definitely something I will recommend to others in the future.
I misread it like this and thought "please NO MORE".
For me, ~~NANDODEMO~~ Orb is perpetually underrated, even at #6 here.
But what is MASSIVELY underrated is Call of the Night S2. It was *really* fucking good, even better than S1.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But we tend to at least have pretty decent variety, which is nice to see.
Organic relationship growth, and a solid celebration of fandom.
I thoroughly enjoyed every yuri last year, and it's nice to see it gaining more traction
Apocalypse Hotel and The Summer Hikaru Died both made by Cygames. They are on a roll.
It's one of those genre hopping shows, which does homages to various other eras... If I had to stick it in a box, I might go with absurdist dark comedy. But even that isn't totally accurate.
Be curious to see how season 4 does given the arc its covering...
It's not for everyone because of how heavy it was, but Reina Ueda was the perfect role for our MC
I haven't watched S3 yet, but Re:Zero is surprisingly lower than I expected. Also surprised no Demon Slayer.
[Re:Zero Spoilers maybe] >!An extremely short loop of like 10 seconds or something!<
Looks like it was a good year for anime
Especially some of the reveals you have to go back to some random episode just to remember it’s reference
Well, for me, the second season of My Dress-Up Darling barely deserves a spot in the top 50… it felt muuuuuch weaker than the first season.
The same goes a bit for Apothecary Diaries, the second season also seemed slightly worse to me.
Actually, the directly >=25 are all goated, ninkoro at 25, ave mujica at 26 and 100 gfs at 27. Actually I would have expected 100gfs higher, but I guess it being a winter show is a debuff.
Medalist being so low is the one true disappointment.
I do wish that Shoshimin, Ruri Rocks and Ninkoro would’ve ranked a bit higher. I really thought that the first two would land a ranking in the top half too.
Then you have me being hyped that it's in the top 10 at all! **Let's go!**
Surprised ReZero is so low, even if it was 8 eps. Shoutout Reze Arc
People here really have good tastes👍
Wished Gachiakuta was a bit higher as I really enjoyed it and after S1 I also started reading the manga and almost caught up with latest chapters. I am surprised to see Shoshimin this high even above big titles like MHA & SL. Also great to see Cleavetss & Ruri Rocks in there.
Even though I mostly watch CGDCT/yuri that are not as popular as other shows last year, I am pretty happy with this
I also love to see that both Ruri Rocks and Watatabe sneaked into the top 25 as those were my other two favorites.
despite Solo leveling having the highest Karma average out of any show in 2025, it only came in 19th here.
I guess because it came out in winter, people just forgot, same with Re zero
but what about Dr. Stone? This last season was *chef kiss*
