Can anyone recommend an anime with D&D vibes like Frieren?
I just started watching Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. The thing I like the most is the setting. Different species, magic fantasy, and the feeling of a vast world to explore and go on adventures like what Frieren does. Reminds me a lot of open world games and D&D campaigns I used to play. Are there any animes that have that same vibe?

- Overlord
It might have world building and an rpg setting but the vibes are edgelord and haram in like 90% of the scenes. (Imo of course). Its why I stopped watching it when I tried.
The magic system, creatures, even the balance of power. Spells are almost all just D&D spells with a slightly different name, and I knew in advance that the "magic immune" monster would get killed by a higher level spell because that's how most spell immunity worked. Adult black dragons are helpless but an ancient silver dragon was potential a threat. Reviving an ally costs lots of money.
It's also evident in how Ainz thinks and strategizes. He is concerned about scrying and enemies getting info about him. He spams dozens of buffs before dangerous battles. He knows all the low level people can't harm him because he's a lich.
It’s just for me the anime doesn’t give the same feel as Frieren or Dungeon Meshi.
I am also a little bit prejudiced against overpowered Isekai MCs (not comparing it to the slop ones that are getting released none stop).
Delicious in dungeon is awesome and should fit the bill, I loved it

Goblin Slayer (don’t be fooled by the first episode. It’s not as grimdark as it would have you believe, aside from some blood the rest of the show is pretty tame.)
Grimgar, but it only has the one season and will never get another.
Record of Lodos War
Konosuba in a “everything always goes wrong” kind of way.
Some western animated shows you might like that are literally created from D&D games are Legend of Vox Machina and Mighty Nein.
**Hunter x Hunter** is great in terms of world building and adventure. It easily became my favorite out of the 100 anime i’ve watched. Gon and Killuas relationship as friends is one of the greatest in all of anime. Also it has almost no fan service and absolutely no filler which is unheard of for a shonen
**Spice and Wolf** definitely has the closest vibe to Frieren I would say out of any other anime i’ve watched thus far. The dynamic of Holo is very similar to Frieren as she has lived a long time.
If i had to recommend one based on your post i would say Spice and Wolf. Let me know if you have any questions!
You could try something like BG3 to see if it's your style. That's how I got into D&D as a whole.
Delicious in Dungeon is the show closest to frieren in terms of vibes imo.
MT ass well, if you can stomach the inappropriateness.
Sentenced to be a hero this season.
I think another similar example would be To Your Eternity, although I only watched one season. Not super high fantasy, but it had that sense of "travelling to different places to explore a big, unfamiliar world". HxH is another good one too.
Frieren feels less like Dungeons & Dragons and more like Dragon Quest III, the Square Enix JRPG.
1. Vox Machina
2. The Mighty Nein
Record of Lodoss war is an anime based on a DnD game played by some popular authors at the time who had it published in magazines and later made it into books (this is like a DnD game as the DM imagines it in their mind without the players shenanigans)
Black Clover is a shounen that fits your description. It starts off a bit annoying but as it goes on, the world opens up and becomes a lot larger. They travel to different lands etc. You have elfs, demons etc.
Hunter X Hunter. One of the greatest shounen of all time. Very vast world full of lore and well written characters. Main characters travel alot too. So you see different countries, villages and cities. Not so many creatures other then human but they exist.
* Clevatess
Grimgar
Log Horizon
Konosuba is a hilarious choice, but definitely counts
Finally, Slayers is old school, but definitely works
First.
Yes, "Dungeon Meshi" is the bible. We all agree. It's the deepest fantasy worldbuilding we've got, it's characters are as deep as the ocean, and it's funny!
No, "Goblin Slayer" misses the entire appeal of D&D. Its characterization is flat, its world is a cardboard cutout, and it's hopelessly japanese (boring tropes) with zero western tropes. Feel free to call my bluff. It's biggest crime isn't the rape, it's how boring it is.
Everytime someone unironically recommends Goblin Slayer, I nod my head left and right. The opening song by Mili is fun to listen to.
Frieren and Dungeon Meshi are the main ones. Anime (the medium) doesn't have much D&D going on. And Frieren is technically Dragon Quest (but GOOD Dragon Quest).
If you geek out over western monster tropes and don't mind a sex-premiss, you might like the geekiness and humor in "Ishuzoku Reviewers".
"The Faraway Paladin" is a Lord of the Rings knock-off. Maybe try that.
"Record of Lodoss War" is an ancient anime, and I'm not enthusiastic about it.
"Mushoku Tensei" obviously has the pedophile protagonist. The world looks interesting at first, but don't bother, it's just a bland harem anime. Sigh.
"Made in Abyss" is a shallower and edgier Dungeon Meshi. Lower your expectations greatly. Amazing soundtrack though.
Especially the dub.
