Not sure how Luna’s gonna get out of this one. She’s up against a council of powerful black witches…,
If one cursed youngling can be "purified", why not another?
I am very curious about her master though, cause presumably her master is the one who cured her before but the council noticeably didn't appear before her when she was with her master and instead waited till she returned to the boy. Her familars and Claude couldn't find her either and she hasn't mentioned her masters role in dealing with the poison. All of which is to say... Maybe her master is a top secret existence? A Gray (Mushroom) Wizard? What a Fungi!
The obvious angle is putting them *under observation* in order to study the boy.
Luna is everything to the narrator...his dearest, his beloved, someone who taught him so much...and now it's finally time to tell the story of how they met.
I imagine it's very flattering that the first thing Luna ever thought of this blonde boy was how beautiful he was, and how he mustn't be sullied...even with a knife stabbed through his torso.
I see Claude is just one big tsundere who has to figure out the most smooth way to greet Luna as an excuse to see her. Which makes him a convenient body to help lift the boy back to Luna's place! Luna's even got some glitter ready to sweeten the deal!
It should be no problem for the Champignon Witch to absorb whatever poison is seeping through this boy through the knife...at least until she ends up summoning some monstrous mushroom beast that is terrifying and clearly not natural.
The only thing Luna can think to do is run to her master...a sentient, talking, zen giant mushroom who purifies Luna and informs her that the boy is none other than The End of Everything. And yet, as similar existences, Luna can't disassociate herself from this boy, and her master will see this through to the end for as long as he exists. Heavy stuff.
I guess Luna can't take in and shelter The End of Everything without running afoul of the Black Witch Council: featuring the Flame Magician (Satoshi Hino!), the Beast Magician (Daisuke Sakaguchi!), the Fiore Magician (Natsuki Hanae!), Crow's master the Bird Magician (Kosuke Toriumi!), the Japanese-coded Eastern Witch, the Crystal Witch (Aoi Koga?), and the Water Witch (Hisako Kanemoto?) a bit of a benevolent benefactor of Luna's who wants what's best for her...even if no one can actually take her seriously with her choice of masks.
But even she agrees that it's in Luna's best interest to give the kid up. Not only does Claude realize he's probably royalty, and thus connected to the Whites, but if he's The End of All Things...a creature that annihilates everything in its path and was only stopped by this very council of Poison Magicians...then Luna just ended up having him save the end of the world.
Yet against all sense, Luna won't give him up...after all, she was cursed too.
Claude is me fr fr. I have to preplan conversation tactics and then it all goes out the window. Relatable crowbro.
Poor Kinopio 🍄🟫
Alexa, play ✨Shiny✨ .
What a wise Grandpa Mushroom with great lashes.
>Fiore Magician
{Fairy Tail} may not be for everyone, but it has such a fire soundtrack and its main theme was instantly what came to mind.
u/italeteller, why did you make me UU-pilled, I’m having Spoil trauma now from this animation of everyone rotting away oh my gods 😭
Those ED TL staff credits aren’t made with the same care as the others I saw. Huh. But I guess that does reflect that middling section where they are showing the names of the witches, but the JP names are beneath the subs, and the name translations on top still have the background dialogue beneath.
But still, there’s a TL staff.
***
I have to appreciate again the texture that’s running through everything. It makes the anime feel whimiscal.
Kinopio is my second favorite mushroom. An Zhe (*Little Mushroom*, sci-fi dystopian danmei) is still my favorite mushroom 😌 I can’t believe I can say I have two favorite mushrooms 🍄🟫❤️.
However, if Luna was a cursed child herself and she is more or less fine now, then there should be a way to resolve that without killing the child, right? They were able to do it for Luna after all. There might be some drawbacks like how Luna is poisonous to people around her, but they shouldn't need to kill him. I guess there is the potential that he is the son of a white witch and they don't want to deal with that, but still...
Also, it would be even crueler considering that he would probably be able to touch Luna without being poisoned himself. So they would take away the one person that could actually have a fairly normal life with Luna. Why he turned into a child again is something I am not sure about yet though.
New Spy: "I mean... Isn't the guy with a fire mask the fire wizard?"
Senior Spy:" That's absurd! Next you'll tell me the witch with a fish mask and giant fork is the Water Witch!"
I think the reason why they want the kid dead is because he is a descendant of white witches.
You *would* start thinking that there’s more to this. Like you said, perhaps they’re prejudiced against him because of his white-witch lineage.
This thing destroys kingdoms - which isn't exactly anything to scoff at - but doesn't actually end the world.
At least that's what can be inferred from Claude's explanation.
I’m not really enjoying myself, so this is most likely where the journey ends. Might come back after it finishes to check some discussions and see if it’s worth picking it up again.
[I already love the Water Witch.](https://i.imgur.com/2PlrRtU.jpeg) She's so silly and unserious. I love that taking off her fish mask [just revealed an even sillier conch headgear.](https://i.imgur.com/lS6hqkc.jpeg) xD
So I thought the reason why Luna [refuses to give up the cursed youngling](https://i.imgur.com/r5doAPU.jpeg) is because she fell in love with him. It turns out, [she used to be a cursed youngling herself](https://i.imgur.com/xz8cB2n.jpeg), so this is kinda personal for her. It will be intersting to see how she'll convince them to back off.
I do think Luna has a weakness for "beautiful" people. It's why she was flustered by the book shop owner, why she initially became interested in Henri, and why she feels the boy must be protected beyond empathizing with his situation.
The interesting part, however, is how she managed to avert her fate of becoming The End of All Things. I’m guessing that her mushroom master had something to do with this?
Witch Hat Atelier looks cute but is a very dark series. I watched a review of some of the manga and I don’t think I’ll be able to palette it unfortunately. I’m afraid Champignon Witch will be like that,,, but I’ve been saying for a year we need more cozy anime’s for this crazy time in the world. Hopefully this series won’t disappoint 💖

\*boy is cute\*
Luna: I can fix him!
Hoping to see more of the Water Witch. She's hilarious
I'm guessing his white witch lineage is the real reason why they want him dead?
And as I expected, Luna is also cursed and probably learned magic to deal with that curse with the help from that… huge glowing talking mushroom, I guess ? I wonder if she thinks she can break the curse. Or maybe she can just keep removing the poison from him as it comes back ? That seems doable and more reasonable than killing a sleeping child.
Also, I am not sure killing him is that easy. He just got stabbed in the heart and thrown down a cliff and lost tons of blood and he is still alive somehow. And he may also be the Crown Prince of the country and descendant of White Witches. Is the conflict between Black Witches and White Witches due to him, with the White Witches in power refusing to kill him while the Black Witches think they should ? That would explain why they are accusing Luna of treason.
...Water witch really took off that fish for an even more ridiculous headpiece. The first one was fishy but I hat the second one.
Since she's isolated in the middle of the woods now there's not as much residual emotional poison in her surroundings.
Visiting the village was something that she did pretty regularly to sell her cures but after all the drama with Henri she decided to stay away for the time being, especially since she was drawing suspicion from the villagers as the potential cause of his illness.
[Champignon Witch]>!Council: “Give us that horrible cursed thing!” Witch: “I neutralised the curse.” Council: “Let’s just ignore that and your obviously convenient powers that we certainly all know about, and that cursed beings obviously don’t *have* to die, and dispose of it anyway.”!<
I like the story, art, and the concept of eating polution + mushrooms, but the "council" was quite a dumb thing and I didn't like it at all.
We'll have to see where it continues on next week, because this felt like huge fillers.
Which makes me a little concerned. Like, the world in this anime is fascinating enough that they could’ve just added some silent quirky moments with various creatures and mushroom creations and even townspeople, and I wouldn’t have noticed any filler in that way. 10 minutes of “I’m too self important to listen to reason” seems like a poor decision was made somewhere, but I’m also crossing my fingers that this was an outlier scene.
"Oh Boy this guy sure is strange! He must have fallen down from that cliff!"
Several minutes later
"Oh and he has a dagger sticking out of his chest!"
Bird Magician and Flower Magician match up perfectly to Toriumi and Hanae (鳥 and 花), it kind of matches up for Water Witch and Kawasumi (水 and 川) as well as Flame Magician and Hino (焔 and 日), and I don't really have anything for Crystal Witch and Beast Magician (and Eastern Witch doesn't have a VA listed yet). Now I'm just looking at the other characters, especially Luna, to see if their VA choices reveal anything because I've lost my mind. Shiraishi 白石 means "white stone" which, like, yeah, the moon (Luna) is a white-colored rock, so it could mean something.
Was this all on purpose. Is it a coincidence. I believe in conspiracy theories now, I think.
I can't 😂 what an atmosphere.
I'd like to think Luna understands what the boy is about to go through being a previously cursed being herself. So she wants to save him from that life.
By the end of this She'll be companionship witch 🥹
I love the mushroom fort Luna grew around herself. By how it looks you'd think it would be completely useless, but Claude still couldn't get through it.
Kind of feels like everything with Henri in the first two episodes was kind of pointless other than establishing Luna as being a lonely girl. But on the other hand I suppose it's important to have that setup as part of the explanation for why she's so desperate to hold on to this new cursed child.
Fish witch best witch.
Oh, so she was once a cursed child too? That makes her actions make more sense. I thought she was just doing it out of a misplaced sense of justice, but if it's instead about empathy and the knowledge that there is a solution (maybe? not sure how similar their situations are, maybe Luna took a super rare 1-use item they don't have anymore, or it has something to do with her mushroom master that can't be replicated anymore), then I guess I get it? I wouldn't say it's worth risking the world over, but if whoever saved her thought the same way, she'd be dead, so I understand her reasons.
Also I have to highlight once again how well this anime is produced. The music remains great (the opening is just excellent), but I also really loved the scene that introduced The End of All Things. It was stylistically unique, highlighting the importance of this exposition. It reminded me very much of how the deathly hallows were introduced in Harry Potter. Overall just very smart directing.
Also I really wanna see more of these black witches. They have amazing designs and loo like a very fun and interesting bunch of characters. Same goes for Luna's mushroom master. Man I really want to jump right iinto the manga for this one, but I think I'll hold myself back for now as I really love the anime adaptation right now and for now want to continue this blind.
Also it's crazy how this show and the original manga isn't close to as hyped as other fantasy shows, since as of right now I like it maybe just as much as the "big 3" in Witch Hat Atelier, Dungeon Meshi and Frieren, which is enormous praise as I really, really love these 3. This show is really criminally underwatched!
Based off the introduction it seems like Luna perhaps dies or this is more of an account of her journey with this boy the cursed youngling.
Which wow did not see Luna also being or once being a cursed youngling.
Also, I’m thinking the dark witch counsel may have been the ones who stabbed him or tried to kill him to begin with. Which is why they were watching Luna because she ended up taking him to her home before he was completely dead. This is the only thing that makes sense to me. Otherwise, I don’t get why they’d just be keeping an eye on Luna. Like that cut to them just being in her room was very jarring.
I wonder why the dark witch counsel is so adamant on killing the cursed boy tho. If Luna was once a cursed youngling there must have been a way to save her, right? My only guess is that she maybe become the “end” and took out most of the poison witches that could heal her…. Meaning there are no longer those types of witches left to try and cure this cursed boy. Yet, this doesn’t make complete sense to me because Luna was able to take the poison from him. Yes, it was a bit too much for her but she was able to remove it and neutralize the poison thanks to master mushroom. If she slowly took the poison from him that he’s unable to release she’d be able to save him no? So far the only difference between him and her is that he doesn’t seem to be able to neutralize the poison that builds up into his body. Luna can by creating her mushrooms so could he not learn to do this? He’s also a white witch so he should have skills in magic, right?
Also, if Luna having been a cursed youngling
Is now a poison witch do all cursed younglings eventually have the ability to become poison witches/wizards? If this is the case then shouldn’t we try to save the boy to make more poison witches? I mean it seems like they’re the only type that can save everyone from “the end”. Granted he could become “the end”….
Also, because this boy is a cursed youngling does that mean Luna could perhaps touch him without killing him or would this still be a no go? I saw that she picked him up but he’s wrapped in a blanket so idk if this counts lol
It's sad to see Luna driven into a corner like this but at the same time I'm curious to see how crazy desperation "mushroom magic" can be.
Still don't like the tsundere attitude though.
Man... I really wish the Black Council wasn't so damn sketchy. The very fact that all appeared seconds after she returned from her master is sus. It definetly seems like they were damn well aware that he was being kept there and they WAITED for her to return just for the sake of testing her. They could have perfectly well intervened when he was dieing in the river. Hell at this rate I'm betting that Fire Dude is responsible for the assassination attempt.
Note that just last episode Claude was freaking out because of how vulnerable the Black witches and wizards were to an inquisition by the white witches and yet here they are talking about killing off the heir to a witch family! Yea, that's gonna really calm tensions down. (PS: My non-claude ranting should not be interpreted as criticism but interest)
Luna: "His soul is clear"
Master: "That's probably why he would become the End of All Thing"
So I guess we're gearing toward pure soul suffering more than most at seeing all the horrors of the world, and how most people close their eyes to it...
Combined with a witch that absorb poison... I feel like that's indeed not a great combo. An with how he talking in the past tense in the intro narration...
\[My own speculation for the ending\]>!I feel like we're going toward an end where she dies in from on him, probably because of a witch hunt or something that started after she was seen doing something good and helping people in need... and THAT is what triggers his transformation.!<
The dual view from the intro and ending must mean something too...
That fish witch was just hilarious changing her mask into poop. Love the whimsy despite the dark undercurrents.
Oh...the kid was poisoned as well as stabbed. And trying to pull the poison out reveals a mushroom eldritch abomination. and he is actually the End of all Things? lots of questions here
and now the black witches council is here...also known as the silly hat brigade. Although I like that the all proceed to bash the Water Witch's hat, which is the most ridiculous. At least they take the time to explain why they wear the hats, to hide from the White witches
And...the End of all Things appears to be Hedorah? Clearly they need to befriend Godzilla. But seriously, I did like the animation used for the explanation.
Anyway...decent fast-paced episode. If there is anything you can't complain about this show, its that its slow...
> Luna proves she can neutralize the poison.
Logically then they should leave him in her care as now they know exactly where the end of all things is and can control / manage it.
> still want to villainize Luna and the kid.
Claude is kinda… shit. Fuck him
> Luna is an ex end of all things
So there’s obviously another reason why they’re after the kid then. The end of all things is just their excuse.
Claude is still shit.
The End of All Things? That dude doesn't look like Yogiri Takatou.
I was wondering how all those "Black Wizards and Witches" arrived at her hut just minutes after the "transgression", but turned out it's just a Zoom Call.
It is just a little too contrived for me.
Make sense now that she wants to save him I had my own theory about that too as the episode was happening
They've done some cool things bringing character to the little creatures of Luna's world, but I felt that this episode displayed very well-done artistic/directing choices within their budget. From the world ending poison scene, to Claude's telling of what the destruction is like, and to music placement at certain moments, I felt that there was a ton of great execution here. Color me impressed.
