I'm new here and want to learn more

Hello, I'm not very familiar with anime and manga, but I'd like to get a little deeper and see what it's like. To keep this brief, I would appreciate any recommendations in anime or manga that you can give me to start exploring this medium. Thank you for your attention.

Hi OrneryGrocery9747, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

You might also find our [Recommendation Wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/wiki/recommendations) or [daily thread](/r/anime/search?q=flair%3Adaily&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=week) helpful.

That's like walking into a library and asking for a book to read, it really depends on what you're looking for and everyone has their own preferences. A lot of people here are into hot-blooded action shows, some prefer romantic dramas.

If you have any preferences in mind people can guide you, but in general [the bot comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1qdwf81/im_new_here_and_want_to_learn_more/nzsy0zv/) has a lot of useful resources.

Yeah, just to piggy back on this, giving examples of stuff you liked in live action television, movies, books etc. would give a good starting place.

The OP might not be aware, but anime encompasses just about every genre imaginable. Action of course but also

* suspense/thrillers.
* comedy
* raunchy sex comedies
* genre parody,
* sit-com like shows),
* Dramas
* tear jerkers
* historical epics
* Political dramas
* War Stories
* Scifi
* Sports
* both realistic and very much not)
* Everything from baseball, basketball, soccer and other popular sports, from Table Tennis, Volleyball, weight lifting, track & field, and even a 700 year old Japanese poetry speed taking game
* Fantasy
* Romance (comedy and not)
* Detective Who-dun-its
* etc. etc.

Just about the only genre I can think of is rarely touched by anime that is common in live action would be Police procedurals and other "procedural" shows.

pick a genre and then look up top ones of that. Is where I would start. Very comprehensive list of genres above for starting out.

It would help if you said what genres you like in other mediums, otherwise you're just going to get a giant random list of series

I’m more curious in why you wish to dive deeper? For example, it is for academic purposes we would recommend completely different stuff.

Anime preferences vary so much from person to person. One that checked a lot of boxes for me is Moribito Guardian of the Spirit. It has great characters and plot, although it is an older series.

Where do you live in the world?
