Something sort of like DanDaDan?

Hey, I’m new to anime and looking for something like DanDaDan. Specifically what I like about it is the juxtaposition of this gonzo supernatural stuff and a relationship between two characters that is sort of sweet and not overly sexualized.

The animation is for sure not as good as Dandadan, but when it first aired it reminded me a bit of Otherside Picnic which I have a soft spot for

Mob Psycho 100 and FLCL

Mob Psycho 100 but the main characters have a father(sort of)-son dynamic. This is more comedy-action.

You *really* get to see Mob grow up from an awkward kid into a man, and it's very satisfying. Highly recommend imo it's one of the greats.

Take a look at Apocalypse Hotel. Absolute wild stories in the episodes next the relationships glowing over hundreds of years. Not a ton of romance, but it does have a wedding-funeral and significant character growth.

Dandadan is kind of unique in the way you describe. Part of what makes it stand out is how rare those elements are, especially in that mix. Probably best not to try to chase that feeling too precisely and instead try to find something that’s equally clever but in different ways.

Mob 100. Very similar in style, but not about romance and instead more about self improvement/acceptance and a anxiety. Honestly there is a lot and different things will stick with different folks, but the core of the character focused story with fun whacky battles and serious moments sprinkled in is the same.
