This is an anthology anime series adapted from eight short stories written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author of Chainsaw Man, when he was between the ages of 17 and 26. And you can tell in some ways that he was younger when he wrote them. I have no way of proving this, but I get the feeling the first one, titled "A Couple of Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin' In the Schoolyard" was the one he wrote when he was 17 becuase it screams naevity and a shallow mindset when it comes to its clear theme of veganism. It's definitely my least favorite, but they do get better after that, although I don't think any of them are amazing. My favorite is probably the fourth one, "Shikaku" a story about a young girl who's horribly abused by her parents for stupid stuff, and years later becomes an extremely skilled assassin. It hooked me from the word go and never let go. The opening scene with Shikaku and her parents was infuriating, (in a good way), and heartbreaking, and the scene with Shikaku being hired by some kind of assassin guild or something was fun and interesting. Her initiation trial was to kill the man who was hiring her, but we learn later that he actually can't die because he's a vampire, but he really wants to. Shikaku is disturbingly adorable even when she's covered in her victim's blood and it's kind of great. It's the one that reminds me the most of Chainsaw Man. Even Shikaku herself kind of visually resembles Makima. The other stories don't rise to that level in my opinion but they're sitll entertaining: a young boy who teaches a mermaid who saved his life how to play the piano, a teenage boy who has a crush on his teacher and saves her and his class from a derranged gunman by catching a bullet then becomes an astranaut later in life, among others.
