It's TOO LONG to be a movie. In fact, it fits PERFECTLY into a 12 episode season. It could be material for season 3 or for cour 2 of this season
If they want to make a movie, they'll do it for the arc AFTER the next one (Goddess Monument)
(Btw: Notice the abscence of other shows aside from Fire Force on Fridays this season? That day/timeslot was LOCKED IN by the elven vibes queen xD)
Absolute peak way to start and end the first episode
The messages seem so simple but so profound or something, maybe the lack of grandiose music background and when there's music it fits so perfectly too.
Happy to see Frieren, Fern, and Stark again!
Genuinely funny to me that Frieren panicked the least as they fell in to that magic nullification crystal cave.
“I haven’t forgotten that you called me an old hag, Stark 😒” oof Poor Stark lol.
I have a feeling Frieren will be bringing this up when Stark is an old gray-haired man
Stark: "Who are you again...?"
[](#airfist)
Technically Frieren too, except she's experienced in trusting her vanguard to look after her so had no worries while Stark was around.
But as reassuring as Himmel was for Frieren, Stark (and his bracelet) is reassuring for Fern.
FRIEREN: so I start napping
Frieren takes that old saying about how women forgive but never forget and takes it to thousands of years.
It’s nice to see Fern being friendly with him again though and setting up the grounds for them to get closer on the first episode back.
Poor Fern
I'm sure what Fern felt after is not just friendship with how [she looked](https://imgur.com/a/X0iam7I) at that [Stark's gift](https://imgur.com/a/fo3oZbz) to her.
When they learned about it, he felt awkward and offered to replace it and she fervently declined
Its like Sein said last season "Just date already"
best ship of the season has begun.
Frieren starting the season with, "Shall we go then?" as if its just mere 2 years have passed since the final episode aired.
-this show for some reason
(Hope Tsukasa-sensei and Yamada-sensei get well soon and give themselves time to gather up before continuing the manga)
Fitting considering Frieren being an elf and her whole coming to terms with having a longer life span, outliving her comrades.
[](#seasonalhype)
God this season is so stacked. Reminds me of Winter 2021 all over again.
And yes, that iconic Frieren's stuck in the washing machine pose lol
One of the central themes of the show is how a significant part of Himmel's impact as a hero was the way he helped random people with relatively insignificant tasks along the way. Sure he defeated the demon king which impacts the lives of everyone. But nobody really feels that impact unless they're directly involved. However, they do feel the impact of the Hero who helped them load up their cart that day or who defeated the beast that was terrorizing their village.
The amalgamation of those little things is what makes a hero have a lasting impact.
We can add "trapped in shrubbery" to the Frieren trapped counter.
This episode drew some comparisons between him and Himmel and while I think it's the first time that comparison has been directly made, it's far from the first time they've been able to be compared.
Stark really has a way of drawing people to him by helping them with small things while he goes through his day. I loved last season when Fern was looking for him and kept finding people he helped out instead, or when he was leaving the town and kept running into people he bonded with similarly.
They’re masculine without sacrificing emotion and vulnerability. It’s just incredibly mature writing and a breath of fresh air when so many male characters in both anime and media tend to be stoic or somewhat lacking in emotion.
i like the "if you want to run away, *we* should run away" lesson in this episode
Himmel put his trust in Eisen not just in his power but also his judgement, and sometimes too much is too much
Fern: "Ms. Frieren, he's already dead..."
Meanwhile [Stark](https://imgchest.com/p/ne7bnw5qn75) wasn't so lucky in [today's episode](https://imgchest.com/p/qe4gpdeeo4j) when [he took a cue from Himmel](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/25377dc29064.png), as he had to flee with both [Frieren](https://imgchest.com/p/ne7bnw5kk75) and [Fern](https://imgchest.com/p/a8466apdw4x) in his arms xD
also, trust the experts
if the frontline fighter you trust with your life says run away, believe them
[](#hikariactually)
Lowe the new ending song😍
Well, OP ain't Yoasobi, but its good enough, visually it looks stunning.
And the ED, well ... guess Millet got that slot locked in - Dayum! Good for us! :D
top 10 scariest frieren lines
Literally being carried while having no power, looking the danger in the face and she can do is clutch the bracelet
Animation was so good, i hope the rest this season are on par in quality.
*It completely backfired*
Realistically the line would snap but…
Sometimes running away is a totally valid strategy. Stark did well and got the gang out of a pretty hairy situation. Glad to have him sticking around. Like sorry Wirbel, dude’s got a party already.
This was a great premiere episode. I’m really glad to have this back again. They really haven’t lost a step from s1. Really looking forward to the rest of the season.
How could Stark refuse headpats from Fern?
[](#rengethink)
We are so back.
I guess their best bet would be to gather the small ones for personal use, even then the maximum range available from the largest crystal they would be able to keep on person should be about 5 meters, absolutely nothing for mages
"if you or a loved one suffers from amana torpor, an aggressive chronic condition linked to anti-mana stones, our firm has helped families like yours seek compensation from responsible artificers for years—"
Have Stark carry it and walk 5 meters in front of the mages. If there's an attack that requires his help simply drop the crystal and jump back to help them.
They could have easily sold it to Wirbel who could stash it in a chest on the corner of the ship and give it to their strongest or fastest front liner.
They are so based for this
No wonder she takes such good care of them all.
THANK GOD FOR THE DAY.
One thing I love is that the music continuity from last season to this one. I’m sure Evan Call has made another excellent OST.
Even before that, when Stark was fishing, the music playing then did the same to me
[](#awe)
The OP is gorgeous but jesus christ the montage of the 4 heroes together then meteor shower and old Himmel and then no Himmel is savage...
29 years after the death of Himmel the Hero.
Poor Stark cant catch a big fish...
Magic Nullify cristal? Thats scary. 3m radius.
oOOooo blinding light crystal if you fill it with mana neat.
Yeah i saw that squirrel go into the ground something there, pit classic.
Oh this cave is full of magic nullifiing crystals this is bad.
I guess we will need Unga Bunga stark to get us out?
Oh i guess its a cave system thats good.
Just "Ordinary girls in here" That stare from stark haha. Frieren never forgets.
Frieren lives a very carefree life. But Fern is scared here aw.
And of course a monster shows up, poison frog thing.
Freiren really trusts stark to get things done.
Aw of course its what Himmel would have done, trusted them with his life.
Wow that boss fight animation was great, Himmel really is Him.
No ones around, time for Stark to get the big fish.
Oh they at the river. Aw Fern is a good diligent girl. She cares about her things.
OH NO STARK SHOWED UP "PERVERT". "Im not Mad." Oh? OoooOooooo.
Frieren is starting to see little tells about people, good for her, stark is impressed.
She wants him to speak up if he has issues though. Good idea.
Oh if it isnt that eye lock guy from the exam, Wribel yeah. He did mention he was going north too.
He wants Stark to go with them for 2-3 years oh shit, we cant do that.
Fern was gonna speak out but was inturrupted. Hmm hmm.
Aw some nice Stark and Fern time this is nice.
Fern saved Stark and allowed him to get over himself. Awww.
Well if this isnt just the cutest shit ever.
"Be nice to me" "Ok come here" WOW. "No" "what a pain in th rear" just like what stark said about her.
Awww Fern getting those special kind of feelings for Stark thats super cute.
And off we go on another adventure, thats nice. Its great to be back.
Ooo the ED is neat, i like the colored pencil animation. This is gorgeous.
It was amusing to see Fern's reaction when Frieren suggested Stark change parties, or when we had that brief flashback where Fern was clutching her bracelet tightly.
And welcome mrs. green apple on OP duties! Featuring a beautiful, atmospheric, and rousing song set to Frieren journeying with Himmel and his party (with Himmel looking back to her), all the people she'll meet along the way, and the adventures she has now with Fern and Stark!
Always count on Fern to be conscious of their money situation. Meanwhile the only thing that can get Frieren up early is to find some magic nullifying crystal that she can make glow super bright. Does it have any practical application to their journey? No, but it's nice to look at!
Don't you just hate it when you step somewhere and end up crashing into a cave? Though it was worth it to see Fern literally carrying Stark. And good job cushioning the ladies' fall, Stark! It's worth some Fern headpats!
Stark the Warrior must protect to the two helpless young girls trapped in a cave with magic nullifying crystals! Even if one of said girls STILL has not let go of the "hag" line. It was an entire season ago, Frieren!
Fern isn't taking it well to not have magic, let alone when they're faced with a Toxic Apex Dragon that Stark would probably die fighting against...but just like Himmel had faith in Eisen and their party even in the face of a battle against a dragon they could not win, Frieren had faith in Stark. Though really I'm sure Himmel was just happy for an opportunity to carry Fern, like Stark is carrying Fern and Frieren.
In the history of anime, if a guy ever notices girls aren'te there and goes to do something, odds are he will find said girls underdressed and bathing. I mean, girls need to keep themselves and things precious to them in pristine condition! Like all the gifts Fern has from those important to her.
If Fern says she isn't mad, 99% of the time she's actually mad. It took an entire season, but now Frieren can actually read the awkward mood in the party. Didn't even need Sein this time!
Look, it's Wirbel and co.! On their way to the Northern Front so Wirbel can battle some demons (and Ehre is probably just happy traveling with him). Wirbel is determined to have Stark join him and, for what it's worth, Stark seems to get along well with him. Could he be due a party change? And how does Fern feel about that?
But she never had anything to worry about! Stark isn't going to leave Frieren and Fern, not after the two of them (and in particular Fern) gave him the kick they needed to get out of his rut and be the warrior his master knew he could be. He has no intention of leaving them behind. And even if he's suspicious of Fern offering headpats, the way she cherishes the bracelet he gave her and clings to it for comfort, says all that needs to be said about the depth of her feelings for him.
The ED is once again another ethereal, beautiful, theme by Milet - featuring "The Story of Us" or the story of Frieren and Himmel as written by Himmel...as he thinks to Frieren and the adventures she must be having on her own. She was never far from his thoughts.
Great soundtrack by Evan call - check
Another banger millet song in frieren -check (also pretty good op by Mrs green apple too ngl)
Fern and stark being fern and stark - check
Also is it me or does this anime which already visually looks pretty great but looks more good in anti glare matte screen?
Can't wait for next episode, sad to see only 10 episodes but they say they maintained quality, I don't mind. Also there's a possibility of 2nd cour so anything can happen
We are finally back! I don't know if anyone still remembers me but I did this little series of comments whenever a new Frieren episode dropped back when S1 first aired where I discussed and explained the German words used in the episode to the best of my ability. At first I wasn't sure if I would do it again for S2 but this show is so near and dear to my heart that I just couldn't stop now. It's so great to finally have this show back even if only for 10 episodes this time...
There aren't a lot of new German words this episode, really only the names of the four new locations we visited or heard about. When not a lot of new German words pop up I usually revisit German words that appear in the episode but were introduced already in earlier episodes.
I also changed up my formatting a tiny bit with the hope that it hopefully becomes even more reader-friendly.
**Episode 29: "Shall We Go, Then?" (2x1)**
______________________
*Locations*
______________________
* (The northern continent) **Ende** - "end" (noun); our ultimate end goal where we may speak with departed souls according to Flamme, as a reminder. Fun that it's the first German word we hear in this episode besides the main party members' names. Also I swear they used the exact same VA for the old man that mentioned it in this episode in an episode for a very similar old man in S1. He sounded so insanely familiar. Would be funny if they were brothers or something.
* **Saum** (Marshes) - "hem" (noun); usually means the edge of a piece of cloth that has been turned under and sewn. However in German you can apparently also say **Saum der Wiese** ("edge of the meadow") or **Saum des Waldes** ("edge of the forest"). Although for for the latter you would usually simply use the compound word **Waldrand** ("forest" + "edge"). That being said, when you talk about a **Saum** in German it's 99 times out of a 100 just about sewing. I personally didn't know the broader application this word had for edges of plots of land before this.
* (The Great) **Sanft** (Forest) - "soft", "gentle", "smooth", "mild", "meek", "mellow" (adj). Nice moniker for a forest, makes it sound very comfy which seems appropriate since all we do in this forest is bathe, chill and then meet old pals.
* **Weiche** - "switch", "points", "flank" (noun); as in a railroad switch, very on the nose with the 'crossroads' theming, haha. This was on the signpost, probably a village name. The inn had the initials 'WG' on the sign so maybe the inn is called 'Weiche G'. What the G may stand for is anyone's guess though. Maybe just guild? Guesthouse? Or maybe **Gasthof** / **Gaststätte** ("inn" / "restaurant") if we want to go full German. But if it is **Gasthof** then the order would be reversed, in real life it's usually **Gasthof X** although writing it this way around (**X's Gasthof**) isn't grammatically wrong, just way less common.
* **Neutral** Harbor - "neutral" (adj); same as in English but obviously with a different pronounciation: In German it's /nɔyˈtʁaːl/ (noy-TRAHL) as opposed to the American English /ˈnuːtrəl/ (NOO-trul) or British English /ˈnjuːtrəl/ (NYOO-trul). This was also on the signpost and mentioned by Frieren. Wirbel & Co. will take their boat from there.

*Names*
______________________
* **Himmel** (the Hero) - "Heaven", "Sky" (noun); the former hero who didn't need some legendary sword to carry out his mission, our always inspiring guiding light even decades after his death, as a reminder.
* **Heiter** - "bright", "cheerful" (adj); the former priest of the hero party, later on a bishop, our late corrupt priest and Fern's foster father, as a reminder.
* **Eisen** (the Warrior) - "iron" (noun); the former warrior of the hero party, our loveable grumpy dwarf master and Stark's foster father, as a reminder.
* **Wirbel** (First-Class Mage, Captain of the Northern Magic Corps, Fan of Himmel) - "whirl", "eddy", "swirl", "vertebra", "turmoil", "cowlick" (noun); as a reminder. Nice to run into him and the whole former 8th party of the first part of the First-Class Mage Exam so quickly again. Also a pretty believable and not contrived reunion since they also wanted to go back to the north after S1 according to Wirbel himself.
* **Ehre** (Second-Class Mage, "Valedictorian" of her Magic School) - "honor", "honour", "glory", "credit", "kudos" (noun); as a reminder.
* **Scharf** (Third-Class Mage) - "sharp", "hot", "spicy", "pungent", "shrewd", "keenly", "sexy", "horny" (adjective); as a reminder. **Scharf** can basically be used to describe the "sharpness" of an object, that food is "spicy", that someone is "shrewd" or that something/someone is "sexy" (hot). A shame he remained a Third-Class Mage.
* **Sein** (The Priest, The Genius) - "to be", "his" (verb/pronoun); the goat Sein got mentioned by Stark so I had to bring him up as a reminder. I miss him...

*Creatures*
______________________
* Venomous Apex Dragon - not German but fyi it would be **Giftiger Apex Drache** in German - or even **Giftapexdrache** / **Apexgiftdrache** since we Germans love compound words so much after all. Interestingly, I just realized that I think there is no different word for "poison" and "venom" in German, both are just **Gift** (not to be confused with the English word for "present"). We have "toxic" as well though (**toxisch**). I wonder what makes the author decide whether to use German for a monster's name or not. Maybe they only get German names if they have a bigger impact like the Einsam (fake memory monster from episode 5) or the Spiegel (the mirror monster that created the replicas of the second phase of the First-Class Mage Exam).
* **Fresser** (Lion Boar) - "gobbler", "eater", "glutton", "greedy-guts" (noun); as a reminder. It's the huge boar-like monster that Stark, Wirbel and Scharf defeated offscreen in episode 22.

______________________
*Last but certainly not least, gotta mention our 3 comfy familiar party members for the occasion of finally having them back as well:*
______________________
* **Frieren** (The Mage, The Slayer of the Most Demons in History, The Genius, The Last Great Mage, The Mage of the Party that Cleared the Most Dungeons in History, Banned from the Continental Magic Association for 1000 Years) - "to freeze" (verb); feeling a lack of warmth. Her trust in Stark was very wholesome in this episode.
* **Fern** (First-Class Mage, The Youngest Mage to Ever Pass the Third-Class Exam with Full Marks, The Only Mage to Notice Serie's Mana Fluctuations) - "far", "distant", "remote" (adjective); she feels significantly less distant in this episode because of her openly being more easy and understanding towards poor Stark. You love to see the slow build-up of their seemingly inevitable ship.
* **Stark** (The Warrior, The Hero, Distant Relative of the Orden Family, Weirdo Magnet) - "strong" (adjective); my boy got a rare big focus with this episode. He was vital in both parts, the first part was about his importance as the party's vanguard to keep them safe if magic actually fails for once and the second part was about his reason for joining Frieren and Fern and Fern gaining a bit more appreciation towards him and openly showing that instead of just remaining stonefaced.

God work though might read them this season because it's my first time following a airing anime
//Greetings from Sweden.
Overall, this was a great episode! The music, the characters, the art—everything is just as good as the first season. It's great to be back to this world!
The OP (both the song and the visuals) is great, but the ED is even better thanks to Mimei Aoume who once again animated it (she was responsible for ED2 from the first season).
Both songs are now available online. Here are the links:

I'll later update this comment with my screenshot albums from the episode.
I don't care if this season only has 10 episodes. If the animation keeps this quality consistently, I'm glad that they focused on delivering such a good product instead of rushing it and cutting corners.
Good to see more of Stark after the mage exam arc. I loved all these little hints and details reminiscening the first season. And it is lovely to see how the dynamics between Stark, Fern and Frieren have developed.
I loved that little detail when Fern patted Stark's head after they fell down the cave. She is still a tsundere, and Stark is pleading her to be nicer to him. But it is already clear that Fern cares deeply about Stark. Just how she treasures the bracelet he gave her is proof enough.
You could go through the whole episode and analyze all these little details for hours. This is what makes a great anime. No wonder this show is so highly rated. And I can't wait to see where this season is taking us.
It was nice to see the absolute trust Frieren has in Stark, just like how she and Heiter knew Himmel and Eisen would be there. Fern on the other hand was totally scared
I love how Stark and Fern know they care about each other and can express it, but there's still a degree of awkwardness.

[Also Frieren](https://i.imgur.com/qwt1vdB.jpeg)
That's slug Frieren, slowly sliding out of her bed.
day one of new years resolutions
> Also Frieren
day two of new years resolutions
Today is a good day.
The cave sequence was interesting - I hadn't considered how a mage like Fern would feel if magic was completely nullified. Frieren relies on magic too, but she's far older and more experienced, and she knows Stark's potential. Fern is still naive and inexperienced, so it's natural she'd be scared.
Also, I just love even the smallest callbacks to season 1, like Fern acknowledging that Frieren put a lot of effort into picking out her hairpin, and Frieren asking "How do you know that?" Because Fern followed her that entire day, lol.
A little bummed to learn it's only 10 episodes this season, but this show is premium, so any Frieren is good.
