Recommendations for a newbie?
Hi everyone, I am looking to start a new anime. I have only watched OG Naruto and Shippuden and am currently watching JJK. I am a huge fan of both. I’m specifically looking for an anime that is not too long/does not feel like it is dragging. As much as I love Naruto, the pacing and number of episodes is kind of ridiculous (one reason I do not want to start One Piece). Please do not recommend Boruto.
Some shows I’ve been wanting to get
into are Bleach, Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer, Code Geass, etc… Of course people have advised me to watch classics like Death Note and AOT but I want to see what yall think.

Death Note
Yu Yu Hakusho (Dub)
Toradora
Hajime no Ippo
Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
Psycho-Pass S1
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Zero no Tsukaima
Konosuba (Every EP is hilarious)
Always wanted to continue on to the next episode. Ended up binge watching these two.
Anime has a wide variety of stories to tell, and you may be surprised if you give some unusual (to you) looking shows a chance.
Anime can be an adventure. Go exploring.
'Shangri-la Frontier' is pretty fun.
'Apocalypse Hotel' is a gem.
'Cowboy Bebop' is an all time classic.
'Flying Witch', 'Non Non Biyori' and 'Yuru Camp' can be super relaxing after a stressful day.
'Mushishi' or 'Hakumei & Mikochi' may speak to a sense of wonder.
'Knights of Sidonia' may scratch an itch for hard sci-fi.

\-Bleach is probably not what you want right now based on your specific issues with the Naruto anime, as both anime series of Bleach combined is over 400 episodes now, and even if you take out the filler episodes, some of the latter canon episodes of the first anime series has serious pacing issues
\-I’ve not seen Vinland Saga, but from what I understand, there is some action in Season 1, but it’s more about the story and characters, especially in Season 2 which from what I’ve heard has barely any action and is more of a full character study.
\-Demon Slayer would fit the bill if you like Naruto and JJK but don’t want another long-runner with slow pacing, as it’s over 60 episodes, and its final arc has just begun being adapted into three films, the first of which released last year. There’s little to no filler to my knowledge, and the pacing is mostly good, just be prepared for plenty of flashbacks
\-Code Geass is an excellent intro to the mecha genre. The action is fine, but it’s really the story and characters where the show truly shines. Of its two seasons, Season 2 is rougher compared to Season 1, but worth it to reach the end of what many consider one of anime’s strongest endings.
For other good mecha intros, Gurren Lagann is an action-packed epic focused on crazy fights and over-the-top spectacle.
For an intro to the Gundam franchise, Gundam 00 is a solid pick IMHO. It’s one of the separate Gundam universes from the main Gundam universe (known as UC or Universal Century), so it’s not an overwhelming commitment as the main Gundam universe is massive with tons of entries, but a separate Gundam universe like 00 can be fully enjoyed on its own, with just two seasons of 50 episodes altogether (and a movie set afterwards, though the film is divisive, and honestly I think the original two seasons conclude well enough on their own, the film really just feels there to acknowledge a very minor unanswered question from the show and not necessary for the overall narrative).
\-Death Note is a pure suspense thriller. With a serial killer protagonist who is trying to evade capture by the world’s greatest detective. I won’t elaborate more in case you prefer going in mostly blind, but the story is mostly solid, the final third of the show (the last 12 or so episodes of the show’s 37 episodes) are not quite as good as what came before it, but still worth finishing
\-Attack on Titan excels highly in action, characters, and story. It’s a little under 100 episodes, so not short, but not massive, and it doesn’t have pacing issues.
One punch man
Solo leveling
Attack on titan
Avoid watching "battle shounen" when starting out then. "Demon Slayer" is relatively short for a "battle shounen", but I said relative to OTHER battle shounen.
Don't worry too much about "classics". They are very good anime, **but it isn't some holy bible**, they just happen to be the well known anime that aired the earliest out of all. "Ooooh. the classics" I'm half convinced that they are just embellishing them with qualifiers to compensate for the fact that they didn't air recently.
Bleach is probably similar to JJK in case you are into JJK. I'm not into either.
I'd recommend some recent jack of all trades genre anime with good writing and high production values.
"Dandadan" is lightning-fast paced. Newbies always claim to love it. Reddit snobs always tell me that I shouldn't recommend it to newbies. **shrug**
"Frieren" is great, but it has a very slow 4 episode prologue. Many, many Frieren fans are insufferably snobbish (just a heads up). The anime is incredibly conventional and funny. I love Frieren and aim to persuade more people to watch it (unlike most Frieren fans who aimto gatekeep it in order to protect themselves).
Do you like dramatic and orchestral music? Dark Souls? Edge? Eldritch horrors? "Made in Abyss"
"Apothecary Diaries" is flawless, but I do honestly think that you might lose interest in it. It's not an action anime. Always worth mentioning the "highbrow" anime. It has lots of murders and evil plots.
