I want to watch an anime with my parents but which do I watch?

I’ve been trying to get my parents to watch an anime with me for a long time so I don’t want to pick the wrong one and ruin my chances forever. I need something with:

\- low/no fan service

\- hooks you from the first eps

\- fast paced/doesn’t take too long to get to the plot

\- not insanely long

I’ve been thinking FMAB or Monster but FMAB isn’t available on Netflix in our region which is where they’ll likely be watching from as for Monster I’m not done with it myself and I’d like to finish it first before rewatching it with them

My dad likes crime series with cops, detectives etc. my mom changes her tastes depending on the day

Here are 3 possible options for your dad:

[Death Note](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1535/Death_Note) - Supernatural police thriller, and one of the most popular anime for beginners.

[Ghost in the Shell](https://myanimelist.net/anime/43/Koukaku_Kidoutai) (movie) or [Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex](https://myanimelist.net/anime/467/Koukaku_Kidoutai__Stand_Alone_Complex) series - Sci-fi / police, with some politics and philosophy. They're set in separate timelines, so it doesn't matter which one you watch first.

[Monster](https://myanimelist.net/anime/19/Monster) - More realistic, slower-paced psychological thriller. One of the main characters is a police detective.

If you want a fast pace, Death Note is probably your best bet.

What do they watch normaly? Try to find something similiar just as an anime.

Also my recommemd would be to start with a movie, since its easier and doesn't take as much time.

I mean could do erased. If they like murder mysteries they should enjoy it.

It’s about a dude that has a power where he goes back in time whenever something bad happens around him. He is then stuck in a time loop until he finds the cause and stops it.

The main plot of the story is someone close to him is murdered and he is framed while on the run his power activate and he is sent back 18 years to his time in elementary school. Repressed memories start to stir about kids disappearing and a murderer on the loose. He is not only trying and stop the tragedies that happened in his past but also figure out how it connects to himself in the present.

Monster feels pretty approachable and grounded for an older audience that isnt used to the oddball anime narratives. No convoluted power systems, no confusing world building, just a story based in recognizable reality and history with realistic, human conflicts/villains.

no not your name😢, i remember watching this with my girl cousin and then aunt walks in on us at the scene where taki in mitsuha's body was fondling them (you already know what i mean by "them")😭😭😭. aunt said nothing and just said that we should go to bed after finishing the movie. i wanted to die right then and there from embarrassment(i totally forgot about that friggin scene i swear and i was the one who recommended that we watch it😭)

Solo leveling,(if actions your thing), frieren, spy x family, summertime rendering (has some panty shots and a lil shower scene) panties are part of the actual plot. Helps him identify someone and just an amazing show, love after world domination (cute love story about a hero and villain who's in love but a lil fan service, loving yamada kun at lvl 999, 3d girlfriend, from me to you, the fragrant flower blooms with dignity, the danger in my heart. I'm big in romance and fan service so these are the best I could do without those things. Also tried to add movies.

Sounds like a movie would be a good place to start, between the pacing + commitment parts.

I saw Akira for the first time in like 2022, and it looks amazing, great soundtrack. My mother liked Tokyo Godfathers (she hasn't seen Akira).

Parents tend to start out wanting to see more complete stories with interesting story lines and defined plots. Characters need to be fleshed out with at least some plausible back story. If the franchise is known, they tend to follow it better like "The Lord Of The Rings The War Of The Rohirrim" movie.
