Which Trigun should I watch as a first-timer? Original or Stampede?
Hey everyone 👋
Trigun is one of the popular franchise I never started, so I’m thinking about finally giving it a shot. The thing is, I know basically *nothing* about the world, characters, or story, so I’ll be going in completely blind.
Now my dilemma:
Should I watch the **original Trigun** or the **Trigun Stampede reboot**?
A few things about me:
* I’m **probably not going to watch both**.
* Once I know a story, I usually don’t enjoy retellings or slightly altered versions of it.
* I’m aware Stampede has 2 seasons while the original has 1, but that doesn’t really matter to me.

Stampede is technically top-notch and visually modern, but it tells the story quite differently and assumes a lot of prior knowledge, or rather, it throws you into the action much faster. For many, it works better if they're already familiar with the characters and themes.
Original first.
I can understand thinking they over animate a bit, but the CGI work itself is, imo, top 2 best CGI in a TV anime. And onbjectively its still some of the best.
Anyway, considering watching more CGI anime. Hell, even Ufotable and Mappa use CGI, you just don't really notice because it's you know... Good.
There wasn't a single time I haven't noticed this shit in anime. And I call you stupid shit because I obviously know more, have better eyes and my take is superior
But if you really want to limit yourself to only one, then watch the original.
To avoid all spoilers but still give an example: the post credits scene of Stampede was two characters speaking over a radio. Anime only watchers have NO idea who either of them are. Manga readers were hyped as shit.
Edit: If you might end up wanting to experience all three the optimal order is OG anime > Manga > Stampede
But honestly, if you are not the type of enjoying retelling, might as well to directly jump into Trigun Maximum Manga tbh. Altho, if you really just want anime, go for Original.
There's things to love about the original, there's a couple things that don't age well, but the eventual end of where Stampede is headed will probably ultimately be better than the ending of the original Trigun
Also, either way, the manga is better and there's a lot of ways that Stampede is closer to the manga.
The original is the Manga of course. It has the most complete story. The manga is sectioned into two parts. There is Trigun and then Trigun Maximum. Don't be confused by the name, Trigun is just the first part while Trigun Maximum is the second part. They are one continuous story.
The 1996 anime is based on the Manga but actually deviates quite a bit. It's probably better to look at it as a stand alone anime. The anime takes a more interpretive approach to the source material. A lot of things go unanswered. It's still very good.
Then there is Trigun Stampede. This is actually a reboot of Trigun. A complete retelling of the source material. It's also very good.
So there is no standard starting point. You can pick up any and you'll be fine. The reason why you'll see mixed opinions is because of how different each version is.
