I'm at a point in my life where i feel like I've watched everything and nothing all at once. Is the next stage in this insanity making a mal account? Or is it finally finishing one piece?

Well until you actually a post a list, then I am not going to say anything beyond get into mecha, since most English speaking fans who say this haven't done that.

got anything for beginners?

**Big Essential Popular Works**
- Neon Genesis Evangelion - Watch the 95 Series, End of Evangelion and then the Rebuilds - Still really holds up. Shinji may not always be the most likeable person, and that probably can apply to Asuka too, however, they are very well realized, whose experiences are very easy to empathize with.
- Code Geass - A good intro to real robot shows. It does have issues in S2, however, still had a good ending all in all.
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - A good intro to super robot shows, over the top and fun.
- Mobile Suit Gundam - A franchise that often revolves around inter galactic wars and depressed teens, though some variation there. It's not that hard to get into. If you just want to try it, pick up an AU series (standalone Gundam entries that exist in their own universes/own characters). They are basically made for newcomers. Iron Blood Orphans, 00 and Witch From Mercury (bit different from most other Gundam shows) are popular. You can try some of the older ones like G-Fighter (also a bit different) and After War Gundam X. If you want to get into the main UC timeline, ask I have a saved watch order, however, you can just start with the original 0079. We have a new entry this year, in the second Hathaway's Flash film.
**Other Notable Entries***
- BubbleGum Crisis - If you like cyberpunk, and want more power armor esque mecha, compared to the giant robots out there.
- Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster - Anno's hit before EVA, had some unique time dilation story elements. Famous for inventing the anime boob bounce, I believe too.
- The Big O - Super robot show, heavily inspired by Americana culture. It honestly feels like Bruce Timn wrote a super robot show.
- Eureka Seven - Features a pretty classic shonenesque zero to hero story, with a pretty interesting art style, that heavily uses skater culture as the backdrop.
- Armored Trooper Votoms - one of the most "grounded" "gritty" mecha shows out there. Basically like Rambo but mecha. MC has to win fighting smartly, against numerically superior enemies. Watch the spinoff prequel OVAs and Mellowlink as well. I am a big fan, so I would just recommend all of it frankly.
- 86 - Somewhat recent military mecha show, that features spider tanks.
- Macross - Features a mix of idol content, with mecha. And yeah, it does make sense.
- Mobile Police Patlabor - A mix of buddy cop stories with mecha. Watch the Early Days OVA, films and then the TV series (I never got into that yet)
- The Vision of Escaflowne - If you want more of a fantasy story, with mecha, and a shojoesque art style.

thanks man I really appreciate it. i've watched the more mainstream ones like code geass and gurren lagann but gundam has always seemed like a convoluted series to get into, what's your main timeline watch order?
North5142026-01-18 08:00
> gundam has always seemed like a convoluted series to get into
As I said, it's actually incredibly easy. Literally all the AU shows, are standalone shows, and the only thing that connect them, is they have giant robots called Gundam....that is it. That's why I usually recommend one of those series, as an entry point for Gundam, largely because many of them are newer, which can be an issue for some, and they don't have much commitment, from which you can determine if Gundam is for you.
If you want a watch order for UC this is the one I often give out (really the stuff marked essential is the barebones of UC, anything else can be watched at any time, after that, though I liked following it through chronologically, some like MS Team and War in the Pocket, you could watch completely standalone too):
**UC Watch Order**
- Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (ESSENTIAL) (you can choose between the film trilogy for a more condensed version or the TV series which is longer alternatively you can also read the manga The Origin which retells the entirety of the original story do not watch the OVA though if you haven't seen the original show or read the manga/I can't say much about the film series as I have only seen the TV version. TV version tends to be the one most recommended by fans but I heard the films are also fine.)
- Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin (the OVA only adapts the prequel additions from the manga and is recommend to having seen the original show before watching)
- GQux (not spelling that out) - It takes place in an alternate timeline, from the original 0079. Haven't seen it yet.
- Mobile Suit One Year War Side Stories (MS Team, Thunderbolt, War in the Pocket, Requiem for Vengeance, IGLOO) (These all take place during the One Year War around when the original show is ongoing. Some of them like MS Team and War in the Pocket, though are great entries and some of the best series in UC)
- Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory (side story leading into Zeta)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta (ESSENTIAL)
- Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ(Kinda ESSENTIAL depends if you want to see Zeta properly wrapped up)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack (ESSENTIAL)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
- Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative
- Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway's Flash Trilogy (films 1 out of 3 out/more a sequel to Char's Counterattack since it focuses on characters from that film, second film comes out next year)
- Mobile Suit Gundam F91
- Mobile Suit Victory Gundam - Technically the end to UC, the other series after this are set in a very far future, that can be tied back to it however, it can also stand on it's own. Victory itself is kinda of a soft reboot. F91 is also kinda like that. Victory though is still worth watching.
- Turn A Gundam - to truly complete the original Gundam story however since this was a title that served as an epilogue to everything Gundam released up to that point it's also recommended to have seen AU titles like G Fighter, Wing and After War Gundam X before watching for the full experience - one of the more critically praised Gundam entries.
