Notable anime that fell off the radar
Is there any notable and/or good anime you've watched that fell off in terms of exposure. Like an anime series or franchise that had a sizeable following but slipped out of the public eye. First one that comes to mind for me is Yo-kai Watch. It had a decent start and following but it's fall was gradual. FR, the anime's latter half is so maligned by fans. Mostly because the studio behind it was run by low-key morons. It says a lot when you reboot twice in a span of less than a decade. A close second is The Seven Deadly Sins. And in third is either the Shaman King franchise or Tokyo Revengers.
But what are your thoughts? Is there an anime series or franchise that was notable once but has fallen off the radar to you. Say anime from the last 10 years or fewer. Be honest about your choice(s).

Fire Force
It did a lot better in Japan, particularly with Blu-ray sales.
It's not often mentioned these days and has definitely fallen off the radar, partly because it's not on any subscription streaming services any more (but it can still be purchased digitally and on Blu-ray).
Unfortunately there hasn't been a season 2 yet, even though there is a demand for it amongst its followers. The only way to complete the story right now is to read the 108 chapter manga, which was completed in 2024 (the anime adapts material up until around chapter 30).
The single anime season that we have is fantastic, it's a shame that the production committee won't reach into their deep pockets and commission another season from Studio Orange.
Secondly, none at all. It's a reincarnated Japanese businessman, what exactly do you expect?
I guess that's just how it is when you you're a completed shonen with nothing coming out for it. But maybe this year there will be.
Coincidentally I'm actually rewatching it right now to fuel my nostalgia, with the recent announcement of the new reborn anniversary project
Season 2 was a slog. Especially when those three went to the capital undercover. Just felt like terrible filler and dragged like hell.
Season 3 was just infuriating. Zeno and Stanley opening fire blindly was never explained clearly. Just outright hostility to the only surviving humans? Zeno wants to be this dictator but has no interest in finding out anything about them? Not very elegant, dipshit. Just a terrible villain.
I can't even remember the rabbit girls name because she has so little screentime she's basically not even a character because we needed to add another batman.
The relationship aspect of it was terrible. Killed any enjoyment of the show.
I feel like tonally it put the series in a weird place by at first introducing stakes, only to flip things around by contradicting its characters and even the lore…hell Minene, a character I found the most interesting becomes rather flanderized once she becomes a demi-god? I mean her development imo was the most consistent out of the cast but I am not a fan of how pandered her Arc ends with her living in a parallel universe later on.
Which by the way did I mention that the actual ending to the show MADE NO SENSE AT ALL THAT I LITERALLY JUST LOOKED IT IT TO REMEMBER BECAUSE IT WAS THAT FUCKING BAD!!! Don’t believe me? Look it up for yourself, it’s genuinely baffling.
It’s also really funny that there is an OVA that is essentially the “real” ending yet it undermines a lot of what happened before, especially with what they did to Minene and they completely retcon the god…but hey it’s a parallel universe, so I can’t complain too much but honestly I found the OVA ending really cheesy because Yuki and Yuno both becomes gods now, which is whatever I guess.
My overall preface is that it’s kind of a waste of time because the show barely does anything good with its plot later on and frustrates you by completely turning the main characters into annoying assholes, which could’ve worked to be more compelling to serve the narrative but to me it came off as forced and discombobulated and I also hate to say this but the only thing people know the show for is the fact that Yuno Gasai is a Yandere…mind you the whole narrative ends up centering around her, so I can’t blame anyone remembering Mirai Nikki mainly for that because the whole thing just fell flat in the end by wasting itself completely.
You must be… blind as a bat….dumb as a rock 👐
Another one is Noragami, falling steadily since the anime aired
To a slightly lesser extent, Lucky Star and K-On! too. Super popular in their time, but I can't remember the last time I saw anyone post about K-On!. Lucky Star at least gets some mileage still from memes, I guess
I wonder what people mean when they say it's disappeared?
So without spoilers, what did they fuck up?
My advice, watch season 1 because it's really good, then read the manga, it's very well done and a fun read
Basically the manga had a pretty disliked final arc and ending so the author said they would ''fix'' it in the anime and did so by skipping what for many readers was the best arc of the whole story to the mediocre final arc and ending that was made even worse in the anime.
The thing about Promised Neverland is that season 1 adapted the first arc in the manga, which was the best and most unique arc and what got people reading it to begin with. After that, the manga progressively got worse and formulaic. It went from having an interesting premise with provocative themes etc to feeling more like a shounen and character developments went all over the place. It went from great to good to "just ok" in the end. The first arc and the premise was just so good that a lot of people felt compelled to finish it. I think the author probably over-extended due to the popularity of the series which is too bad.
The anime season 2 aired after the manga finished, and they kind of promised to fix some issues with the manga which implied some changes to the story. Instead, it skipped most of the 2nd arc (which was still good in the manga) and jumped all over the place with poor developments, and then speed ran through the end where the last episode eventually contained a slideshow that glossed over the last part of the manga and then just called it a day. It was just… bad and kind of nonsensical.
Same story with devil is a part timer.
The anime season 2 was just plain terrible.
Being a harem ending will be better than whatever people got for the ending.
This also probably one of the ln that somehow manage to kill it audience both domestic and global with it ending.
It was quite popular in season 1 and 2
After that, yeah, I barely know about season 3
I thought "why the hell would I watch season 2? They defeated Satan. That was the entire premise, what more could they have. It's gotta be some stupid shit. No thanks"
It wasn't until S4 was releasing that I was like "okay, what's going on? ***Clearly*** I missed something."
And then I looked it up and found out they pulled a FMA and then binged S2-4 as far as it was released, and then watched the last parts of S4, and then S5 as they released.
* Parasyte
* Black Butler
* Blue Exorcist
* Owari no Seraph
* Heavenly Delusion
And thanks to painful sequels: ~~Promised Neverland, Tokyo Ghoul, Tower of God~~
Still one of my favourites, but its just kinda gone and all talk of a S3 has been dead silent.
I guess its cus s2 left on a point that could work as an ending, but it makes me sad that its not got any relevance these days
Haikyuu!!
Magi
Noragami
Overlord
I'm guessing it either didn't do well, or ran out of source material? That was also still when a lot of anime was just there to promote the source material. Lots of single season bangers.
In my case, I started watching anime in 2021, so I will mostly list animes around that time:
- Ya Boy Kongming: Massive hit in spring 2022 with a very catchy OP, but now I don't even see it in anime recommendation
- Ranking of Kings: You would see this anime everywhere when it was aired, highly rated but it's been a while since I last heard its name, at least in reddit
- My Happy Marriage: At least in this sub the discussion thread for season 1 has a lot of engagement, but the number for season 2 is... quite saddening
I gotta blame the delays
And I think about the posts about people complaining about the pacing of the story. With some arguing "that's how slice of life pacing is".
I stopped reading it awhile ago, but it hasn't really processed much from the main plot. It's a ton of backstory and more characters.
Like rental girlfriend is comedically slow, but spy family feels the same pacing wise imo.
It's not like the series isn't doing well, far from it I believe, but it's slice of life. The fact that season 2 was that popular and discussed was already a surprise.
It has good rating, yet i dont see people talk about it that much.
It had prob top 5 best animation and fight scenes in anime of 2025 but no one I've seen has ever talked about it. It had an old Dragon Ball/Yu Yu Hakusho Saturday morning cartoon vibe to it, was really freaking good.
Also their opening songs were awesome
It deserves a special shoutout for being one of the very few shows I've seen that doesn't have any exposition despite having a fair bit of fictional elements and slowly dripfeeds you information via context clues up until the end instead.
Jojo part 6: Stone Ocean
IDK what the hell Netflix is thinking to release the finale into 3 parts with long time gap between each parts
Season 2 for both fell off pretty hard with a rushed story.
Tho psycho pass came back with the movie and kind of fell off again with a new cast
Also i know its still going but like "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon" is on season 4 or something somehow
Had a fun 2 seasons. They didnt even pretend to have anything close to an overarching plot in season 2, but man I'd love to kick back and watch more wacky hijinks in Hellsalem's Lot.
