One of the best stories in my opinion and definitely in my top 3 animes. I feel if the direction and screenplay was better, especially in the final two eps where the setting was more grim, this would probably be considered a masterpiece; I think it was a fatal mistake by them to not drop the comedy/comedic approach, if they had the fluency of changing the setting like how FMAB had when going from comedic to serious, like in the case of the nina scene, you would probably see 'goat' chants and glazers defending every single thing about this show and explain every little inconsistent detail as if the author had a 4-d chess playing brain like people do for Frieren and FMAB . I feel you can't beat the story and .... it was such a nice plot that I am almost speechless. I went in not expecting anything from this but it has fried my brain. It is much much more funny than konosuba and has a much better and more satisfying story than FMAB. I really don't understand why this isn't as famous. Why not more than konosuba IDK. But I feel people really are swung in more by the direction ( back-drop, screen-play, VAs) like of death note( it had a good story as well though) or the word-salad of philosophy that sounds deep like that of Frieren or FMAB than the actual story or by the fight scenes and animations of the popular ones. The only criticisms I have are that they probably shouldn't have made his overly cautious nature the main focus, it could have just been a side comedic trope and it would've fine. In-fact he isn't even overly cautious I feel, like when he was facing actual enemies most of his skepticism actually turned out to be correct and they prolly would have died if he wasn't skeptic. The only time I noticed his unreasonability was when he faced the slime for the first time. The other time he was clearly not serious as he threw all those reservations out the window when someone gawked at them. He was actually more of a really good strategist like Lelouch or Light. I really liked the satire of mainstream anime protagonist trope who is more focused on having an adventure rather than focusing on saving the world or fighting evil and is emotionally charged instead of logical and has pretty much no plan whatsoever but just randomly comes across ways to solve all problems on his vacation trips or side quests. I think he is actually close to the most ideal and reasonable hero figure I can think of who is self-less and wants to save the world. The only trope the included from the mainstream that I think doesn't fit was valuing your friends life more than other people you don't know. I feel that isn't what an ideal selfless hero should do. So I think the story and characters were top tier, just better direction would make it a goat.
