This movie was great. It was the first My Hero Academia movie, and it strated a trend of anime movies based on longrunning anime and manga to be considered canon. Even though it doesn't have a major influence on the manga itself, that's still kind of neat. It starts with All Might in America when he was younger, still a student, defeating a villain in the states, alongside a good friend of his David Cross, who is a scientist. The bulk of the movie takes place in the present day with All Might and Izuku going on vacation in America and All Might reunites with David, as well as his Quirkless daughter Melissa Cross. Through a coincidence many of Izuku's classmates also show up in the same place that they are, and they encounter a villain that they have to team up to fight. Honestly the main villain of the movie isn't that interesitng. He's pretty generic, he just wants to kill All Might and force David to use his research on Quirks for his benefit. The most interesting part of the movie when it comes to villainy is that All For One makes an appearance towards the end of the film. He was manipulating the main antagonist of the movie, and his major involvement in season 3 is kind of foreshadowed here, which is cool. That's even more apparent in retrospect if you've seen season 3.

The most interesing part of the plot to me was David Shield himself. He was conducting experiments that are considered unethical. Not anything too horrible in my opinion from a real world perspective, just in the MHA universe. He was studying Quirks and items that can restore Quirk powers when they're lost. This was inspired by All Might. He was his former sidekick and knew that he was going to lose his powers eventually, but didn't think the world could get by without the symbol of peace. His arc involves him coming to terms with the fact that All Might's powres will eventually be gone and accepting Izuku as his successor. I also liked Melissa, she's kind of an underrated waifu, and there's a lot of cool parallels between her and Izuku, as both of them are Quirkless, and they both are the successor of each man in question, for Melissa her real father, and for Izuku All Might, who kind of became a father figure of sorts since his real dad is always away on business trips. That's pretty much all there is to say about the movie though, other than the fact that the animation and fights were spectacular, and the final battle was amazing, especially when All Might and Izuku used Detroid Smash simultaneously as the finishing blow.
