Review of Ninja Scroll: The Series
**Overall:** 2 out of 5
**Context:** Yes, I know there is a movie. No, I have not seen it yet.
**Pros:**
\---I like the B-Anime scholcky feel of the series.
\---I like Jubei's character design and wise cracking mannerisms, he's pretty fun to watch and pretty fucking cool
\---I was hesitant about Shigure's character design (look at her massive forehead, you could land a plane on it!) but it grew on me over time and I felt myself quite liking her design
\---The music tracks are certainly unique and add a interesting vibe to the series while also managing to fit the mood quite well
\---I love the opening music and visual as well as "Shigure's theme" track that plays. It's very wistful and melancholic
\---We have some very nice bits of animation and set pieces such as when that one villain uses Itachi's tsukuyomi or when Shigure enters the cave with the floating orbs in the final episode or when the ship in episode 12 is backdrop against an ocean of blood
\---Some very well directed fight scenes with my personal favorite being from episode 9.
\---MANY unique monster designs...if outright hideous
**Cons:**
\---Tsubute is annoying, useless and looks like Bat from Fist of the North Star (who I hate) and so I hate him even more now. Funnily enough, in-universe, none of the other group members particularly like him either and wouldn't care if he died
\---Every character without exception is dead fucking simple and just plain and simple have no character at all. They are just tropes, walking sign-posts. They ***barely*** have a name.
\---The plot is dead simple which I don't mind in particular, buttttt I feel like this anime could've been cut down to like 4-6 episodes and nothing would change. The rest is just pure filler, could be removed and nothing would change about the anime
**TLDR:**
I wouldn't call this anime good...and I wouldn't particularly recommend it...but I still binged-watched it in like 2 days cause it was simple, yet enjoyable enough to digest it for what it is. A schlocky B-anime that was just fun out to watch
