Overall I don't think I'd recommend it. It's not bad but unless you have absolutely nothing to watch and crave romance anime (and if you don't mind the dragging things out/misunderstanding trope), then give it a shot. It has a fairly conclusive ending, so there's that (though I read season 2 is announced).
Might make sense to either just straight up cut down the list of break it up into more palatable groupings of less than 10 each.
Absolutely. The cast in particular was so much fun. Banger OP too.
The past winners lineup is impressive too: LiSA (Gurenge, Homura), Suzuki Masayuki (Daddy! Daddy! Do!), Utada Hikaru (One Last Kiss), Yonezu Kenshi (Kick Back), YOASOBI (Idol), Creepy Nuts (Bling-Bang-Bang-Born). And for Reiwa 7 (2025), the winner is Ave Mujica’s KiLLKiSS.
So that 30-second silence in the KiLLKiSS intro is really worth it. It's quite impressive considering there are Iris Out, Kaiju, Plasma, and On the Way.
Here's the [stream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQhm6q-XURc) replay for those who wants to check it. Full nominees [here](https://www.anisong-taisho.jp/reiwa07/).
Other winners besides Ave Mujica are:
* Best Musical Piece: Kaiju - sakanaction (Orb OP)
* Best Lyrics: Shine in the Cruel Night - LisA (Demon Slayer Movie Infinity Castle)
* Best Composition: Ao no Kirameki - Spira Spica (My Dress Up Darling S2 OP)
* Best Arrangement: Muri Muri Evolution - Nanawo Akari (Watanare OP)
* Performance Award: Masayoshi Oishi
* Voice Actor Song Award: Singularist - Yuuma Uchida (Classic Stars OP)
* Character Song Award: Hypnosis Mic Division Rap Battle FINAL Commemorative Song
* Artist Song Award: skirt - aiko (Apocalypse Hotel OP)
* Planning Award: Harmony of Mille Feuille
* Newcomer Award: Bad Surprise - Tenrougun (Bad Girl ED)
* AniKara Award: Everyday Host Theme Song
* User Vote Award: Stare in Wonder - BE:FIRST (Wandance OP)
It's like watching bokuyaba again, just worse getting to that point much earlier.
> When the top 20 list drops each week I always feel like im missing out because I only watch maybe 6 on the list.
Which one was a top 20 again? Anime Corner one is a top 10 (1 show for me), the r/anime one is a top 30 (week 3 chart data is all 7 present in the 9th-29th range 3/4 split between left and right side). Anyway, FOMO and grass is always greener are things that as you become an older fan bother you less or you start to appreciate how little overlap there can be with people that watch double digit amounts of seasonals, it just shows how broad the medium is.
I watch a lot of the top karma list simply by the shotgun method.
1 more to be added when Medalist airs.
Because this lets me find exactly what I want at the moment, I don't really feel much FOMO from the top 20 list, as my custom selection is perfectly tailored to me.
>When the top 20 list drops each week I always feel like im missing out because I only watch maybe 6 on the list
Trying different things that you might not have heard of otherwise is not a bad idea. But don't let it restrict you, it's a hobby for fun, not a job.
I fully expected this show to rate highly for me, but it’s even way better than I anticipated.

There’s just something about dreams that seems to get the animators blood pumping, and I think we should have more of that these days.
Sure wish I could get the same with anime. Why does God give his most cooked social media landscapes to his greatest art forms?
The sakuga community exists? If you want to be specific about a particular series, Evageeks exists?
Really hoping we get an Undead Murder Girl Farce S2 some day! Akin to being Penny Dreadful the anime.
I'd love to see more anime in this setting/era or a reasonable facsimile. Any others people would recommend? Princess Principal comes to mind.
Also, unfortunatelly, they adapted everything sans one book + one short story and no new books came out since anime aired.

>“He got me,” /u/qwertyqwerty4567 said of /u/Ocixo's hat trick over him. "That f***ing /u/Ocixo boomed me."

I'm quantifying this based off of popularity (though I do love the openings I will list). Usually the first few openings of a series are the popular ones that are associated with the show. Those that people who haven't seen the anime have still heard a thousand times. Then it falls off and the later openings may be great songs that fans like, but they're not widely popular. Except for the 13th opening. They're usually great, popular, and show up in those youtube anime opening quizzes. The ones I'm thinking of are:
* [Sakura Mitsutsuki](https://v.animethemes.moe/GintamaEnchousen-OP3-NCBD1080.webm) from Gintama
* [One Day](https://v.animethemes.moe/OnePiece-OP13-NCBD.webm) from One Piece
* [Ranbu no Melody](https://v.animethemes.moe/Bleach-OP13.webm) from Bleach
Fairy Tail and Naruto are exceptions to this trend though. Fairy Tail's [13th opening](https://v.animethemes.moe/FairyTail-OP13.webm) is nothing special, and Naruto's [13th opening](https://v.animethemes.moe/NarutoShippuuden-OP4.webm) is immediately preceded by the immensely popular [Blue Bird](https://v.animethemes.moe/NarutoShippuuden-OP3.webm).
It's just interesting that of the few shounen anime that are long enough running to reach 13+ openings, three of them have opening 13 as one of their most popular ones.
Even hearing just the first few notes of that made me feel a certain way.
[](#feelsgoodman)
[](#gintamathispleasesme)
I ended up liking I Wanna Be more *specifically* in terms of the TV-size OPs, but Sakura Mitsutsuki is definitely the better song.
> and Naruto's 13th opening
That one's actually my favorite Naruto OP haha.
I have to say, I had forgotten this. Its not bad, but I don't think its usually ranked among the most popular openings from Black Clover (those would probably be OP1, OP3, and OP10).
Story structures that maybe didn’t age the best? Check.
OPs that pretty egregiously spoil a sizable plot point? Check.
Filler? Pacing issues? Really out of place recaps and backstory flashbacks? Check.
Art that looks like ass? Ok I’ll give them this one.
That’s not to say I’m not enjoying my time here. However, in my experience the Big 3 haven’t aged as gracefully as some of their contemporaries in other genres.
I would put a joke here about creating a “new Big 3” but (like the title) people might misinterpret it.
I will not explain
[](#mug3)
will you write a 2000 word blog about not esplaining it, though?
I always thought anime was also 'misunderstood' with the only battle shounen I had being MHA, HxH and Jojo.
Then I started Bleach and was absolutely dumbfounded at the amount of tropes and jokes that became the butt of memes in the anime community were being played completely straight.
They weren’t entirely right, and we can always choose to ignore the slop, but these stereotypes came around for a reason
If you have the time and aren't opposed to another medium I'd say the *best* way to get into the franchise would be to [read the visual novel](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2396980/Fatestay_night_REMASTERED/) and then pretty much everything else is a spinoff of that which can be approached in nearly any order, but that's the purist route.
Totally agree though that someone should just do a new kickass adaptation of Fate already. Surely the series is popular enough that it'd be free money and an automatic hit, especially since it'd be an adaptation everyone could wholeheartedly recommend for complete Fate newcomers as well.
Without getting into spoiler territory I unfortunately can't say much more.
There's no real anime adaptation of the first Fate/Stay Night arc so it's a little awkward, but unless you're wanting to read the visual novel you should just pick Fate Zero or Fate UBW depending on which one you think you'll like better.
Long answer is yes, but *technically* you miss out on something if you haven't seen the Fate route first. But it's not that big of a deal, and Fate 2006 isn't really the answer either because it incorporates stuff from the other routes (plus it's just not very good).
Annoying answer is, just read the visual novel instead.
[](#seasonallaugh "Just kidding, but also, not really.")
[](#tiredaoi)
I've got seven on the schedule today, so naturally I've been watching sumo videos on YouTube instead.
[](#justright)
[](#thoughtful)
* Fate/Apocrypha
* Fate/Zero + Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files + Fate/Stay Night (which itself would have the three routes in parallel and then Today's Menu for the Emiya Family as a separate spinoff)
* Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
* Fate/Grand Order
* Fate/strange Fake
People keep asking for a chronological order to watch things in but I don't think they'd actually want to follow one.

It’s like God looked at me completing *Dusk Beyond the End of the World* and then said “how about another” and thus came *Champignon Witch*.
I think the two-episode debut broke me. I only go through one and haven’t brought myself to watch the other when there’s so much else I can watch instead.
At the very least, it compelled me to catch up on *You and Idol Precure*, so I’ll give it that.
I’m not a masochist, just a completionist. I complete everything that makes its way onto my planning list.
In recent years I’ve tried to keep down the amount of entries I add that I don’t think could be good, but clearing off the backlog takes some time. Of the 82 entries of mine from 2025, only 10 I scored at or below a 5.5/10 and only 5 of which were actual series (as opposed to movies or MVs). My masochism shows up more with classic anime where I’m a junkie for whatever I can get my hands on.
It's ok though I find your opinions interesting because of it.

... secret deeply held bitterness?
I love my action & fantasy anime, so it's kind of crazy that a romcom is one of my fave shows in a season *this* stacked with action & fantasy
Sounds fun, will nudge up a little in the pile of Yet-to-be-tasted-this-season!
_Sunday Morning~_
The Torture Princess OP might be a little too catchy.
Anyway, this is prompted by Polar Opposites, but one of the funny little anime quirks I like to notice is the voicing of animals/pets. Sure, they _could_ just use an actual recording of a cat, but why go that route when you could instead have a grown man saying _nya_ in falsetto?
If you haven't already check out the music video. Sunday Morning is from a very popular kpop girl group "ILLIT".
[](#mugiwait)
So probably some time later this coming week unless they changed their process in a way that makes it significantly faster/slower.
I'm certain that sometime in the past couple weeks, I just saw something else with the same gag of [joke] >!a person pulls out their phone to show someone else something, but then it reveals something embarrassing in their search history!<. Does anybody know what it could be? I just can't seem to put my finger on it.
They flood the ONA section and are questionable as to if they even count as anime. Regardless of where you stand, I should be able to at *least* filter them off of the list.
You know what site does allow me to filter by country? AniList. It can't be that difficult.
Each canon episode seems to either focus on the worst characters in the show or introduce some really unfunny plot point of new character. It's actually such a stark contrast that it makes me wonder how Rumiko Takahashi's works took off so well in the first place.
Some of the worst parts of the remake are cut out by the original anime (creepy kid with the voodoo doll and the broadcasting club narration), it's a miracle by the anime that they came out with such a great end product.
Meanwhile, the filler loved Happosai [](#elves)
>the broadcasting club narration
He wasn't "cut", he's an original character for the remake.
As far as remake goes I thought it was 100% following canon, that's on me for not doing my research.
I did it recently, when I was trying to get a friend into the old series (he's not big on Happosai). He appears in 62 episodes, 35 of which are filler.
>I thought it was 100% following canon, that's on me for not doing my research.
All good. The new series has its small additions too, but not to the same degree as the original.
Did you teach ESL? Teaching (and learning!) tenses that don't exist in one's first language is always quite the interesting exercise, especially with smart students. Then there are things like the subjunctive mood that I only ever learned intuitively to begin so had to learn it formally before being able to start teaching it lol
Yup
And, yeah, as someone who learned English as second language mostly on my own, it's was only when I started teaching that I really started to grasp a bunch of things about the language lol
And that’s exactly what you’ll find in Prism Rondo. It’s not just the college aged characters that help here, but the creators behind it. A lot of newer mangaka/writers/creators in anime seem to lack a wider life experience, either through the simple fact that they’re young, or they’re just not exploring the post adolescent experiences in their subject matter. That’s perfectly fine, and understandable. So, when a show like this pops up, it’s a breath of fresh air. You get more nuanced approaches to adult relationships/struggles from experience writers who have something to say and have actual life experiences to inform their stories. There’s whimsy and idealistic themes in here (it’s romance and you gotta have some wish fulfillment to have a good time), but it’s grounded in an emotional maturity that feels real. I’d absolutely recommend this to any fan of period pieces or romance.
You may notice Medalist is there, this is because it is Medalist and ofc it will be B tier. Prism Rondo isn't here either because fuck batch releases.
In the end I have kept 18 shows not counting nad will catch up to Fate SF one day^^tm. So far not much have changed, I think Champignon Witch ep 3 is a detour from what I was looking forward to. Othersie everything I have kept is keeping course.
Nothing... It's all in the middle!
[Ok no I will complain about Shiboyugi being C tier](#seasonalpout)
Its a charming show, but like I said, recent episode seems to be doing a detour in plot and tone so I will see if it holds up.
But it is already trending upwards, episode 2 was pretty good.
[](#seasonalpout)
(They should have a crossover episode at the end of the season!)
(Hell, we're 2/4 to a Torture Quartet!)
edit: I did not check what the link was when I tagged this.
[](#hahahawhat)
[](#gunfire)
Watching this show, I'm realizing there's a better Seinfeld version of Solo Leveling where you keep Sung and Yoo at the Jerry and George, add Cha as the Elaine and maybe switch Baek to a Kraemer role and you'd have something pretty interesting in its own right.
I just realized that who ever wrote this must have sunk thousands of hours into Shadow of Mordor
Well, you could say that you were on a partial break, and claim Scarlet's show is an action show!
Then go watch *Pass the Monster Meat Milady* as a food series lol
And then *Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord* as a depiction of high functioning autism through extended metaphor?
*SaeKano* as an ecchi exploration of the lives and early careers of talented and less talented creatives?
If I want to answer my own question on whether anime is getting better or worse, the only logical process would be to take a full sample of *everything* and try to draw conclusions.
I keep putting that day off because it does not sound like a particularly fun experience.
The last arc has been good though... after the long slog of Wano it feels like it is moving much faster and there have been some rather emotional episodes.
[](#seasonallisten)
* **Milky Subway**: Good. Why is it only 2-3 minutes per episode? Need a full season.
* **From the New World**: Oh my god. Just blew my mind. Can't believe it is not that popular as other series like serial experiments lain, electrolyze, ergo proxy. Here are my thoughts on it:
* [From the New World]>!I need some clarification. shun said that she isn't an ogre. But she was. Was he lying?!<
* [From the New World]>!Was it mandatory to have gay/lesbian pairs before puberty? And then were they mandated to have hetero pairs? If so, then the committee was the biggest asshole that ever was.1!<
* [From the New World]>!What happened to the kids kidnapped by wheeler?!<
* [From the New World]>!Did the committee members know that powers were leaking through the barrier and hence destroying the whole world? I think they did and would rather destroy the whole world just so that they can cling onto power!<
[Your question 1]>!Shun likely meant that her power restraints didn't go wrong as with other ogres. The restraints were working correctly, it's just that Squealer and the rats managed to hijack them to work differently.!<
For something that was made independently largely by one person, with almost no budget, and released for free on YouTube, I'm honestly still in awe it was as long and high quality as it was.
The rest of the franchise is not needed.
If you want to get the intended emotional experience - start with 'It's MyGO' and continue with Ave Mujica.
You’ll be missing some context regarding the relationships between certain members in Ave Mujica if you skip It's MyGO!!!!!, since an important scene for them is tucked away in that season.
