It seems Kunon found his people.
This made me laughing so hard. I'm sure it feels unsettling seeing *yourself* ascend to heaven.
It doesn't seem he's having any trouble at all, so I wonder if he still needs an eyeball.
But as people have pointed out he cannot appreciate the subtleties like architectural shape. He probably cannot tell a facial difference just size and color difference.
That being said, I can’t help but feel that his end goal is sadly feeling pointless.
The head magician literally held up his own hand to show his crest level instead of saying it which Kunon could “see” just fine, while also being at a level where he can comfortably perceive shapes or colours and accurately implement them through his magic (case in point, the mentioned different cats he can conjure). The only thing he failed to see technically was the sunset sky, which I can assume based on his ingenuity will be fixed soon enough.
I hoped for a lot more struggle in this area honestly, but I’m unsure him getting even more proper education will be able to showcase it as effectively.
I'm assuming he wants eyes because even if he can "see" the world his vision doesn't function the same way it does for other people, so maybe things like art and architecture just don't have any significance for him right now, and he wants to at least have the chance to use normal vision. That's how I'm justifying his goal anyway.
Probably lower resolution, but he can see behind himself too.
The humor even had more variety since Kunon wasn't in control of every interaction, definitely my favorite episode of the show so far.
But, it is a peace-time application of magic. But there are signs that it is not just R&D.
But he has no way of knowing how an eyeball actually works, so I’m just enjoying the fresh take on magic like everybody else and hoping he gets his goal :)
Poor father got too attached to the water cat, Kunon killed it right in front of him.
He should get his son to make him his own personal water cat cafe.
And water dogs for the rest of the family.
Yes, he is talented, able to conjure other things like that cat and water doll, but not too far fetched. Pretty sure anyone from that mage group will be able to do just that if given time.
NOOOOO.
And holy crap that’s a lot of princes’ and princesses! Glad this show is so laid back cause if it was any other show I feel like there would be a lot of plotting from these royals trying to get rid of each other for the throne.
I feel this series is missing some sense of urgency or purpose, since it isn't cozy or charming enough to survive as just a slice of life. At least with the maid the was a charming enough character for Kunon to interact with. Any sense of pathos has also been lost since the premiere, and now its mostly a goofy comedy.
I did laugh at the goofy flying maid simulacrum, was reminded of the 2D Nico flapping in the wind from an early Witch Watch episode. So the series isn't unfunny, and since it looks an ominous looking character will be introduced in the next episode, perhaps I will get what I wish.
Casually dissing his last magic teacher, "wow they already thought of what Jenie(?) sensei could never think of"
Immediately killing off his dad's para-social relationship with the magic water cat
Goes out on a late night drive with his fiance's sister:
"We can't, I have a fiancee, my first time must be with Mirika, won't your fiancee have a misunderstanding?"
"I don't have a fiancee"
"Oh it's alright then"
hm???
So with this princess not having a fiance, is that implying that she and Kunon could also get together after he becomes king? It seems like it would be pretty far down the line considering the number of other princes and princesses.
Raysha is pretty great, good for the future to have a nice and friendly relationship with your future sister in law.
It cute how much Mirika is in love with Kunon, arranged marriages don't always work out that pleasantly.
The problem is the remaining faithful part which not everyone does. This is why arranged marriage societies have strong societal pressures.
There aren't bad guys or antagonists. The entire series is about Kunon having fun doing magic experiments and research with other mages.

War against other kingdom should be a different matter though.
Interestingly, so far they acted more like scholar/academics rather than war tools.
You don't want those fights to cast doubt on whether those forces are loyal to the current leadership or whether they need to be undercut to avoid a political conflict. Given how clearly valuable and fairly limited high quality sorcery is, you can't risk wasting that talent. Especially given that talent and techniques refined need to be taught and passed down or else have to be rediscovered.
It's just far better to keep all of that explicitly neutral and loyal to the kingdom
There's a freaky flying maid coming towards me.
It's fine, that was just Kunon making a mistake with the details. Totally diagetic, definitely!
In their defense, there were no "no ice skating in the hallways" signs up.
Even MC is stunned at how laid back this school is.
His father is speaking as if mages can simply refuse to take part in military conflicts in service of their nation.
His "new master" next ep has gotta be an isekaiee. No one else would actually look and dress like that, right?
The sorcerers are all treasures. Goofy. All of them. Speaking of which, why did Raysha have to call that guy bitchless & why does it disqualify him from teaching Kunon? Do you have to match his game or something? cuz it seems like he's peerless
It's not like literal eyes where you see the world all at once but rather a more imprecise and unique way of seeing the world.
I agree it's kind of ridiculous the degree to which he can do things which traditionally depend on sight but the show makes it clear he's spent extended periods of time refining these techniques to compensate so it's somewhat excusable.
So I guess i didn't understand, I'll rewatch it
We can sense colors but we only know what they are after we learn them. How do you know red is red and green is green. You can tell the two are different but until someone gives you the first context clue of "this thing is red" you don't have a framework to understand which colors are which, only that they are different.
So with that, Kunon could tell what colors were via his magic and therefore reproduce them but he didn't actually have experience tying them to the common understanding of which color is actually the red one and which is the green.
love the sorcerers nerding out on magic. creativity is the key to the best magic.
I have seen it and now I can't unsee it lol!
You can do so much with blindness. Even if he is now only partially blind, which is the most common type of blindness in real life and still a disability. It feels like they didn't want to write blindness anymore. I'm sure it will comeback when they need it for a challenge, but this episode made me feel kinda disappointed. Still a good episode though.
He can see how many fingers someone is holding up. He can read perfectly. He can write apparently. I find the restrictions of a character are what interest me most, watching them overcome those restrictions or navigate them. We don't actually even know what his vision is anymore since they said he can see colors and shapes but WONT SHOW US WHAT HIS VISION LOOKS LIKE. Episode 1 they showed what he can see. Then they kinda showed us when he first saw a color. But nothing since then??? It feels like his vision should be an important part of this show but its just being ignored now like a lot of other anime where the main character has a major life effecting trait but is ignored after the first few episodes or chapters because maybe the writers got bored of it or couldn't think of anything else to do with it. Ok I just wanted to rant about it.
I'm still really enjoying the show but the lack of representation for the one thing they set out to represent saddens me. I still have hope though.
Looking forward for more episodes!
