After Watching a clip of Blue Excorcist, Im interested in exploring yhe series.
I was flipping through channels at my hotel and landed on Blue Excorcist. I want to know how is it as a show and should I watch. I dont like animes where the stakes dont seem life threatening. It looked cool but I dont want to watch if people don't die or arecat least in serious danger. I quit Fire Force and Black Clover because both shows felt like more of a older kid watch (middle school) vs the serious life threatening watches (AOT, Bleach, Demon Slayer, etc.). Im in my 30's so fun loving isekai is not my vibe. Based on this rambling, should I watch or skip?

Its not as good as Bleach or AOT etc. but worth checking out imo.
Second, you’re watching battle shonen (battles, fighting, non stop action and stakes), it’s a sub genre of the shonen demographic. Shonen means “boys comics” so the target demographic for the broad genre of shonen is 9-18. The themes in all shonen appeal to a much wider range obviously, but that’s the target demographic.
Third, age is a weird metric to cut yourself off from titles. I’m 37m and two of my favorite shows this season are high school romance. If you have your preferences fine, but you also shouldn’t limit yourself because of your age, imo. A mature genre for you then would be Seinen since the target demographic is 18+.
Fourth, yeah people die in blue Exorcist, but whether or not it’s good is going to depend on you. Watch a few episodes and see how you feel!
Age is not the same as preference and that’s why this post is being downvoted lol
That's a shounen. You could add K-on instead if you need a third seinen.
Solo Leveling is a Korean manhwa. It doesn't fall under the same demographics.
There's more and less mature titles from all demographics, though all of them will tend to have certain traits more than others, particularly the female demographics.
It has tragedies and is very unique as far as battle shounen goes.
I'm surprised to see someone else in this thread describe Black Clover and Fire Force as better than Blue Exorcist, those 2 are clearly worse.
That said, I don't think I watched the most recent cour, they released 3 seasons back to back after a huge anime hiatus.
I'd recommend it, but it's not flawless (lots of side-arcs and side characters made it hard to remember the main plot over the course of 15 years). Probably better to watch other low hanging fruit.
Thanks for reminding me OP, I'll probably finish watching season 4 in the near future. I personally like the anime (and rarely care for battle shounen).
