She is open to anime given it isn’t just action. She says they are all the same just fighting so like what would you all recommend I watch with her. Thanks
Hi godsdead6669, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!
The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

That tells us so much. thanks.
just for kicks though, seriously just lulz. could you maybe tell us what your gf is into genre wise?
AnimeTA2242026-01-19 00:49
There's plenty of anime that aren't action focused (and some with action that aren't action heavy)
I'd recommend:
Steins; Gate
Frieren
Apothecary Diaries
Spice and Wolf
If she's got a genre of normal TV, she prefers that could help narrow down recommendations.
WakaliwoodMan2026-01-19 00:55
Frieren is a bait and switch, it's absolutely just 90% fighting or building up to fighting starting from when demons get introduced. Season 2 is gonna be pretty much the same thing as soon as they get to the main big arc.
Steins; Gate is a good rec, except that it's not a good first anime considering the weird stuff in the middle you have to slog through that most people who don't like anime wouldn't be able to stomach.
the-big-dingo2026-01-19 00:58
It is not 90% fighting lol
WakaliwoodMan2026-01-19 01:09
Delusional.
the-big-dingo2026-01-19 01:15
So 25 of the 28 episodes were fighting or building up to it?
WakaliwoodMan2026-01-19 02:05
Reading comprehension bozo.
Anyways, I did forget about the whole intermission with the priest guy, but aside from that, it's actually 90% fighting or building up to fighting as soon as the demons get introduced. The entire last arc of season 1 is literally just wizard chuunin exams.
You're delusional.
the-big-dingo2026-01-19 02:07
Again 90% of the anime would be 25 of the 28 episodes
Uma-apreciator2026-01-19 00:49
Try Violet Evergarden and Uma Musume Cinderella Gray
Realistic_Bunch_66572026-01-19 00:52
I suggest talentless nana There’s not a lot of dramatic fighting and it’s peakk
International_Ant3032026-01-19 00:52
Apothecary Diaries
Violet Evergarden
Frieren
MrModsMusic2026-01-21 06:18
Yes

What kind of movies or TV shows does she like?
What kind of hobbies does she have?

I would recommend Frieren and Apothecary Diaries both are newer and different
HopefulCassidy2026-01-19 00:56
Nana, Always Nana. You should watch it too.
InfiniteEstimate9772026-01-19 01:07
I second Nana. It is more like an Asian drama than an anime and way more appealing to women who may not like traditional tropes in anime. Also it has an amazing soundtrack!
PikaBooSquirrel2026-01-19 00:56
Apothecary Diaries and Frieren are the first that come to mind. Dungeon Meshi starts a bit slow but picks up quickly. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is usually a good starter anime but I'm not sure if that is above or below her "combat" threshold. Spy x Family is very easy to get into.
Erased is a good mystery anime. Summertime Rendering is my favourite but has a bit of ecchi earlier on and I'm not sure how versed she might be with certain anime tropes. Psycho-pass S1 is amazing if she's fine with a bit more violence. Promised Neverland S1 has a very strong first episode and run, but only if you're fine with starting a mystery anime that has no anime-ending (ie. Don't start season 2. Lmfao).
'Love is War' is the only romance I enjoy (aside from Toradora, but many people find Taiga's personality a bit abrasive) and an amazing comedy. Daily Lives of High School Boys is also up there for comedy. A bit of a longer investment with so many seasons. The Summer Hikaru Died is one of the few horror anime I found unsettling.
Wolf Children is an enjoyable and feel-good movie. Low investment in terms of time.
I enjoyed Death Parade, but it's very episodic. Same with Violet Evergarden.
the-big-dingo2026-01-19 00:57
Well what does she like?
You could try something like death note that’s always a good intro anime .
Few_Highlight11142026-01-19 00:59
Watch frieren.
WakaliwoodMan2026-01-19 01:02
Assuming you want something YOU would also enjoy (and you typically like all the action battle anime that your gf hates):
Haikyuu
Death Parade
idk... Odd Taxi?
maybe a comedy, like Nichijou?
Spectral_Entity2026-01-19 01:05
The ancient magus bride
AdFlashy73852026-01-19 01:13
I really recommend watching a movie or two first since you don't have to follow up.
Your name
Silent voice
These two should be perfect for a start. Then start watching more drama series first
ToraDora
Oreigeru
Violet ever garden
Then start watching seasonal Isekai/fantasy to warm her up to half action and slice of life
Spice and wolf
Banished from hero party so I decided to live in a quite place
Chilling with 2nd level cheater
Archdemon dillema : how to love your elve wife
Then start watching long Isekai/fantasy series
Shield hero
Ariefuta
Danmachi
Why start with drama/romance?
For me this is the best way to understand what anime has to offer in terms of emotional and story writing.
Why I recommend watching Isekai/fantasy genre?
For me this is like the best genre for beginners to get into anime as a whole. If they start with today's popular anime, they may not have the grasp of any concepts of fantasy and power scaling etc.
ghostpickleonastick2026-01-19 01:22
Anime that isn't about fighting. My Dress-Up Darling, Ouran High School Host Club, Citrus, Girls Band Cry, etc.
Or try a movie first, less of a time investment. Perfect Blue, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Cat Returns, and so on.
shadowraptor8882026-01-19 01:36
Psycho-Pass, Death Note
bravetailor2026-01-19 04:21
Sounds like she's not a fan of your tastes (lots of fighting).
But you can search anime by genre. It's like anything else out there. There are romances, comedies, etc,.
godsdead66692026-01-20 08:16
I mean yeah this is true but that’s why I’m here trying to get others actual input on the subject rather than looking at some list with different genre of what could be a mid asf show I’m showing her…
Quagz8562026-01-19 18:55
My home hero - drama, thriller 12 episodes
MrModsMusic2026-01-21 06:37
Cinderella Gray (personal fav of mine. A well told story, with a great protagonist)
Apothecary Diaries (like watching a Chinese or Korean drama but in anime form and slightly better writing imo. A bit more comedic in some ways. Charming main character. It’s very fun.)
Frieren (just a really good show. Calm pace, but also has some absolutely EPIC moments. Watch it. Has a different feel from most other anime if you ask me.)
Solo Leveling — all the girls I’ve watched this show with (3 so far) have become absolutely addicted to it. Literally watch it on repeat. However two of them were already kinda into nerdy stuff when I introduced them to it, so that makes a difference. Still though… it’s GOOD.
The first couple episodes have a few graphic moments, so if she’s the type of girl that doesn’t like blood or gore, you might wanna warn her about that.
