Hi Nick_InternetG, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Your Name, Weathering with you

the-big-dingo2026-01-19 21:15

Is there a reason you want a stand alone movie over the more traditional tv series ?

EducationalHat63712026-01-19 21:15

Ninja Scroll

dude_im_stoned_2026-01-19 21:16

I want to eat your pancreas,
The wind rises,
Weathering with you,
Perfect blue,
Grave of the fireflies,
.
.
.
.

If these ones fail to pull you in, trust me you're not made for anime movies

ZDB8882026-01-19 21:16

I mean anything ghibli is prob best. Spirited away is ranked 1 all time for animated movies. Cant really go wrong there. I also enjoy When Marnie was there. And Boy and the Heron was the most recent to win an academy award.

Signal-Yesterday72472026-01-19 21:25

Princess Mononoke was pretty good.

ZDB8882026-01-19 23:39

Definitely.

flyingnanobot242026-01-19 21:17

Definitely “A Silent Voice”!

MadCybertist2026-01-19 23:44

This right here. My favorite movie in any medium.

Delicious_Reply_52222026-01-19 21:18

Something studio ghibli or satoshi kon, they're classics for a reason :D I'd start with spirited away! Also, not one of the directors I mentioned, but maybe Your Name by Makoto Shinkai :)

HatSignificant80012026-01-19 21:19

fireflies of graveyard

Railgun_8S2026-01-19 21:19

Everything [Satoshi Kon](https://anilist.co/staff/99580/Satoshi-Kon) has made in his short life, my favorite would be [Millennium Actress](https://anilist.co/anime/1033/Sennen-Joyuu/), but you can go with anything by him his most famous is probably [Perfect Blue](https://anilist.co/anime/437/PERFECT-BLUE/) which Daron Aronofsky copied for Black Swan or [Paprika](https://anilist.co/anime/1943/Paprika/) which Chris Nolan copied for Inception.

artfulpain2026-01-19 21:19

Akira
Ghost in the Machine
Any Studio Ghibli movie.

PrevekrMK22026-01-19 21:41

Akira for someone new? Nope.

Dizzy-By-Degrees2026-01-19 21:57

It worked on thousands of people in the 90s.

ZDB8882026-01-19 23:40

Worked on me lol.

artfulpain2026-01-19 23:45

Exactly. It is one of the best ever made.

artfulpain2026-01-19 23:45

What would you want me to say Fist of the North Star? With that grape? Lol

No-Zookeepergame10092026-01-19 21:20

"Chainsaw Man: Reze arc" was REALLY good, although if you don't have the knowledge which is gained by watching the series (1 season, 12 episodes) then you wont know much of what is and why sadly, its hard to recommend noob friendly movies, since they mostly come in series/shows

GfrzD2026-01-19 21:20

Anything Satoshi Kon. Perfect Blue and Paprika are my top 2

diesalher2026-01-19 21:21

Spirited Away

Dry-Disaster-97312026-01-19 21:23

The Dumpster Battel(haikyuu)

Guerreiro19022026-01-19 21:23

Watch the first Bunny Girl movie, but first watch all 13 episodes of the first season.

The only time I cried a lot with anime was in that movie. Even though I've seen more than 1000 anime throughout my life.

Your Name is also good, you can watch it straight away without seeing anything beforehand.

Signal-Yesterday72472026-01-19 21:23

Akira is a must-watch. Insane animation and music, plus it was one of the very first anime to become popular in America.

Can't go wrong with basic but one of the most popular; Naruto & Naruto Shippuden. Aside from a lot of fillers still imo one of the best animes out there. I watched since it first aired on toonami back in like 05' till the ending of shippuden in '17.

I don't recommend Boruto tho, they killed it for me there.
