That and it seems like a lot of theaters skipped out on showing it.
1. It's under Crunchyroll anime monthly nights program
2. It conflicts with theater chains Monday Mystery events
2. Don’t know what that is (possibly because I’ve never seen my theater advertise it) but yeah, that sounds legit.
I honestly can’t complain as long as I get to see it, big screen or not.
As a result they don't get priority because they release as part of Sony's output rather than something like Fathom Events
I can’t complain as long as I get the Japanese dub on Crunchyroll.
But if they limit it to the one-day event (which some theaters aren’t even showing) then I’d be disappointed.
This movie was ***fucking amazing***. It leans so hard into its premise (like the series proper) that you get pulled in and fully buy into it the whole time, as insane as the story is.
Zombie idols versus aliens, and it works. It works brilliantly, fun and energetic and emotional and just so *earnest*, with a hint of bittersweet at the finale.
It's art, they can do whatever, but that doesn't mean I can avoid projecting some part of myself on it and really disliking it.
They could've wrote something around that but only if they keep the alien tech
Sucks it's only for one night here lol.
Ending kind of hurts because it feels like it happens to keep everything the same rather than be bold to keep moving forward.
It rubs me the wrong way because Tae has always been the funny one, but now I would like to learn more about her. I would love to see more of her interactions with the rest of the group outside of her zombie self. I get she has always been like that in the series, but I am still meh on it.
Everything else I loved about the movie was a blast from start to finish. The English dub is fantastic here. This is a great example of great localization.
One day I will rewatch the series subbed to see how that is.
1. the curse of Saga. the aliens are part of the result, not the source
2. how Joufuku met Kotaro
3. Kotaro's plan to save Saga
Amazing movie all the way through with a bittersweet ending, but I was honestly expecting it. Nice end to the series, but if they happen to do more then I wont complain. I can imagine Kotaro saying "Nice working defending Saga/the World from aliens BUT we haven't saved Saga YET!?". haha
The English dub cast was also very impressive!
> **IT'S BEEN 4+ LONG YEARS...**
...and funny enough it's like I watched this show yesterday. It stuck out so much to me from the time I had watched it that I remembered most everything beforehand, from the main character arcs to each of the side characters. That being said, the 2 season exposition gag of cutting to Sakura in the booth was hilarious. There were so many jokes that I loved it's hard to recall them all here, hell some I can't even describe since they're pure sight gags/visual/audio gags that work because it's a movie.
- Best line of the movie, got the whole theater laughing out loud: "Well, that settles it, the Earth *is* round."
- Insanely detailed animated montage of Saga getting destroyed by an alien invasion....*cuts to the sign on the Cygames building going crooked*.
- glad we get to add "alien" to the list of things the Franchouchou van has run over by pure accident
- "That's it, no more space guns for you!"
- "I didn't collapse, I tripped."
- "29...*and an idol?!*" "It's okay, times have changed since then."
- Yuugiri continues to be the GOAT
- Slow mo badass walk down the stairs followed by the panic from the FIRE BOULDER BALL OF DEATH was glorious
- WE GOT TRANS GIRL PILOTING AN ALIEN MECH FIGHT LET'S FRIGGIN' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

> **Continuity and the Side Stories of Saga, the Gift that Keeps on Giving**
What continues to surprise me with this series is the level of emotions and payoffs we get from the characters, both in Franchouchou and the citizens of Saga. Two seasons of building up all these characters and how they connect to our main group...when all of Saga comes together in the climax, it felt personal. Most every single character Franchouchou has inspired comes together and contributes something important to saving the town. We've spent enough time learning and growing with these characters over the show that it's easy to care about them when in danger, or when they do heroic things of their own to help.
To top this off, ZLS continues the trend I've enjoyed of answering questions...that then present more intimate, new questions. I like that the story doesn't spell everything out, but gives us what matters most to the characters in their journeys. Anything else that details can be filled in where relevant. That being said...my LORD I'm considering theories I never considered before this movie. At least we get a lot of character arc and emotional payoffs.
- There's something so satisfying about seeing the earliest two fans, Lily's Dad, Reiko, and all the others that Franchouchou has touched over two seasons come together to help save Saga
- The Zombie reveal was inevitable, and I'm glad they dealt with it head on.
- Maria and her friends realizing who Saki was hit in one way, especially in how Saki seemingly pays it off with the cool exterior was one thing. But seeing Reiko drop everything and reunite with Saki almost immediately after the following montage? Yeah that made me tear up a little, remembering how much they meant to each other. Movie doesn't stop the plot for it, but they give just enough time to it, and I appreciate it.
- At first I thought the "OH SHIT WE'RE GONNA SEE HIM WITHOUT GLASSES" was going to be the big moment. And then they properly switch it on us, as seeing him without the glasses is WHAT CAUSES HER TO REMEMBER HIM, OH MY GOD. Cygames, Mappa, please I beg you we need to see the proper resolution to their stories. The truth is finally out there.
- "Who am I to you?" "I guess you could say.....I directly inherited your will." Wait hold the f up are you telling me there's a chance Tae is related to Kotaru? Like mom or aunt or something?
- Given how Tae talks, I feel like there's the potential to explain many things up until this point: whatever she was involved in, she seems to have tactical knowledge, covert military/militia experience. She talks about "Saving Saga" like they were actually under military threat during her time alive. Between these little potential clues, her inability to "wake up" for so long, and the bandages always covering her forehead....I think it's possible that Tae's manner of death was gunshot to the head. It would explain why she doesn't wake up like the rest of them (as it would be the only death directly involving brain damage, rather than every OTHER members' death managing to avoid direct damage to the brain)
> **In regards to the ending**
I've seen a few people say "It's great until the ending," but personally it worked for me. Saving Saga always comes at a cost, we've seen it time and time again with this show. Sure, one might be able to guess what was going to happen in the end, given how the power crystal worked for Tae...
...but that doesn't make the "*please*, just let me get through this one song." any less tragic.
Zombieland Saga has always been great at hitting a balancing act between the comically absurd setup and plot, alongside surprisingly poignant, emotional character arcs. I still think that holds true here, so I'll stand by and say that (for me personally), I'll stand in support of the ending.
Btw: post credits scene implies this isn't the end of the series. I hope that's true, and that we get to see it soon. They could end it here with Saga hitting the big time, but it feels like there's just a few more very important threads they need to resolve. Zombieland Saga has done a wonderful job dedicating each section to a different member of Franchouchou, resolving each individual's character issues, trauma, backstory, etc all while the main Saga plot continues to build and build to higher climaxes.
But there's still two characters left completely unresolved: Kotaru and Sakura.
I think we're close to an end, and whatever form Franchouchou comes back in, I'm here for it.
For those complaining about Tae, it helps if you read her origin side story.
Either that or the distributor messed up and give the subbed for the dubbed release.
Not to mention the Power Rangers/Super Sentai-esque visuals from the first opening weren't just there for the fun of it but actually foreshadowed events in this movie, including them all skydiving while holding hands.
Tae my GOAT 😭
I was able to visit Saga for a few days last year when the movie came out in Japan and visited some of the places seen in the movie.
[Their house in Karatsu.](https://imgur.com/mCPXGIS)
[The Space and Science Museum in Takeo](https://imgur.com/5F99zp3) which had [the photo board](https://imgur.com/y3IBu3J) that Tae and Junko share a moment at and [some of Franchouchou's outfits](https://imgur.com/034iYux).
[The Cygames building.](https://imgur.com/s5FD6G2)
[Saga Arena.](https://imgur.com/CT3ntNP)
In addition the Saga Expo was based on the World Expo that took place in Osaka last year and the Saga International Balloon Fiesta and the Imari Bay Fireworks Festival are both real events held annually. They really stayed true to reality and I think that that's really cool; save the alien invasion.
Loved all the callbacks and cheered when the metalhead duo showed up in the beginning.
Tae being Junko's fan and had a lotta shiptease with Sakura.
I would like to think it was Yugiri who said the Earth was round.
Sakura and Kotaro's connection being teased more is great
fanservice too. Speaking of which Junko and Ai being together and the only ones lit up is also legendary.
They still love teasing Kotaro's strength failing sometimes and hope we get an OVA or something with Jofuku too.
Knew the Status Quo would remain but still wondered why no one questioned how they look the same despite 5 years passing in universe.
here's something not in the movie but I'd love to see : Saki's interaction with Maria's father. imagine this, Saki had spent years with Rei, they traveling together, fight gangsters together, then she married this boy (he seems much younger than Rei) cus Saki left her behind
I really love the music, they went full on hard rock this time, with the amazing horns.
When I arrived, the movie was still in theatres, so I managed to watch it on the second night at the \[local 109 Cinemas\](https://i.imgur.com/xaVl4Gu.png), which coincidentally was in the same mall where Junko and Ai were in when the aliens attacked. It was fun spotting the real life locations in the movie after having visited them in person the past 2 days.
Immediately after, I knew I had to redo my entire itinerary for the next day with my rental car so that I could accommodate a visit to the Yumeginga Science Museum.

Unfortunately the observatory was booked out by a grade school excursion group so I couldn't get photos there.

But anyway, back to the movie, I really enjoyed spotting references to other movies like Independence Day and Predator.
Nothing more to add except to give a shoutout to THE LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE.
LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE.
