Requests for what to watch
Hello. I’m (f35) not new to anime and manga, but I’ve only watched/read a few. I’m looking for suggestions on what to watch/read next. I’ve finished My Hero Academia and Full Metal Alchemist, and I’m currently invested in Spy Family. I’ve seen bits of One Piece (it’s a massive undertaking to do that series and I have to find time to continue) and also Demon Slayer (seemed interesting enough but I’m not sure I’m up for all the gore and supernatural in that one). I’ve been told by younger kids to watch Naruto, so I tried it and I think I’m too old. Couldn’t finish the first season. So what should I look into next?

for isekai, i recommend re:zero
for sports, try haikyuu, for fantasy try frieren....
You spoke a little about what you didn't like from what you saw so far, but it would be helpful to know a little about your preferences in genre and theme as far as TV and books go, generally. Do you have any favorite series that meant a lot to you, or that you keep coming back to? Do you have any tropes or themes you really hate? Do you like really long, ongoing series, or prefer shorter, completed ones? This will help us narrow things down when giving you suggestions.
Also, never be afraid to just do some googling and jump in if you want to find a show about something and try it out. You will see endless discussions about ratings and popularity, just like with any other TV show, but in the end finding what you like is really all that matters.
Edit: I took a quick look at your profile for some context, and I'm seeing that you have an interest in literature, specifically mythology and history. Even though it's a bit bloody, I would consider giving Vinland Saga a try if you want to watch what "the kids are watching." As an adult I think I saw it very differently on a first watch than my teenage brothers-in-law, and it led to some great conversations about values and events in the story. I would also consider something like Mairimashita, Iruma-kun for something with approachable "magic school" (well, technically demon school but it has a very old-school Harry Potter feel) vibes. That's something you could probably also have on in the background when kids are around without worry. There is a new season coming out this spring, so it's a good time to pick it up. Both of these have accompanying manga that are very well regarded. Frieren would also be a good series to try, and is currently airing and very popular.
A few other movies i'd suggest are Metropolis, Sword of the Stranger, The Boy and the Beast, and Memories
a few shows i'd pick: The Ancient Magus' Bride, Frieren, Trigun, Outlaw Star, Violet Evergarden, Soul Eater, and Rage of Bahamut: Genesis
**Isekais:**
* That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime
* Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?
* Mushoku Tensai
* Campfire Cooking in Another World
**Edgelords**
* Overlord
* Eminence in Shadow
* Solo Leveling
* Akame ga Kill
* One Punch Man
* Mob Psycho 100
**Action/Adventure/Fantasy**
* Kimetsu no Yaiba
* Jujustu Kaisen
* Tower of God (probably also qualifies as Edgelord but Bam is whiny)
* Bungo Stray Dogs
* Seven Deadly Sins
**Funny/Lighter/Friends and Love Interests**
* Kaguya-sama Love is War
* The Way of the House Husband (this one is hilarious btw)
* Noragami
* Devil was a Part-timer
* Haikyuu
* Natsumes Book of Friends
I haven't seen these but my teenager loves them: Frieren and Apothecary Diaries.
Gintama is also an investment of time. Wait until you're a more seasoned anime watcher imo. There are a lot of ways they make fun of other animes, break the third wall, etc. If you're into this one, its a very slow burn plot, but things do eventually happen.
Currently I just finished Gachiakuta, it’s really good for such a new anime
You don't have to watch a specific anime to be introduced to anime and become a fan.
