Looking for episodic slice-of-life anime about/focused on friendship or family
Hi everyone! I recently realized that **episodic slice-of-life anime** is really my thing, and it all started with **Natsume’s Book of Friends**.
I loved *Natsume* because aside from being slice of life, it has a **mystery/supernatural element** that makes each episode engaging. It’s calm and emotional, but never boring, which is exactly the kind of vibe I’m looking for.
Here are some shows I’ve watched:
* **Natsume’s Book of Friends** – my favorite; episodic, emotional, supernatural, and comforting
* **Skip and Loafer** – really enjoyed the friendship dynamics
* **From Me to You (Kimi ni Todoke)** – liked the friendship aspect in the beginning, but not the later romance-focused parts
* **Horimiya** – great friendship themes at first, but became boring for me in the later episodes just cause romance bores me
* **Spy x Family** – loved the found family theme
* **Buddy Daddies** – strong family dynamics
* **Yuzuki-san Chi no Yon Kyoudai** – really loved the family-focused storytelling
* **Bocchi the Rock** – hard to explain, but the story, music, and refreshing comedy really made it hype and so entertaining to watch!
* **Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun** – I enjoyed it, also cause it has 3 seasons, but *Natsume* still stands out more for me
I’m not really looking for romance-heavy shows at the moment, especially those with very slow-paced romantic development. I’m also taking a break from pure gag anime - while I do enjoy shows like *Asobi Asobase*, I’m currently not in the mood for nonstop comedy such as *Daily Lives of High School Boys*.
# What I’m looking for
* Episodic slice of life
* Focus on **friendship or family**
* Romance is fine as long as it’s not the main focus
* Chill, comforting, but still engaging
* No or very minimal fan service
* The more seasons the better!!!
If you have any recommendations that fit this vibe, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Slice of Life with a good emotional story. No supernatural stuff or fan service (as far as I can remember.
I was surprised at just how much I ended up loving it last summer.
K-ON!
Tamayura
Mokke
Minami-ke (getting a new season after 13 years, lol)
XxxHolic (not specifically focused on friends or family, but I like its SoL aspects)
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Binbou Shimai Monogatari
Taisou Zamurai
Bakuman
* Aria The Series: three seasons, and three OVAs
* Tsuritama
* Yuru Camp: three seasons and a movie, fourth season announced
* Flying Witch

Especually since they both have multiple seasons.

Flying Witch
Tonari no Yokai-san
Sweetness and Lightning
Yama no Susume
K-On!
Anne Shirley
Food for the Soul
Aiura (this one's super super short)
And a bonus movie reccomendation: Summer Wars
Its a bit more action packed, but its still unbeaten in my mind in regards to anime about family.
I absolutely loved Skip to Loafer, Spy x Family, (the friendship part of Kimi no Todoke, I also didn’t like a lot of the later romantic stuff) and god I love Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun. The manga had progressed pretty far beyond the anime and the relationships between the class, an especially Clara, Asmodeus, and Iruma, become way deeper.
Another relaxing slice-of-life classic is **Non Non Biyori**, with wonderful characters, a lot of time spent away from the schoolroom setting, and some of the best backgrounds you'll see in anime. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Last but not least, **ARIA** is one of my favorite shows of all time. This is *iyashikei* at its finest, with beautiful artwork especially considering its age, endearing characters, a perfect OST, a unique setting with excellent worldbuilding. Furthermore, *ARIA* is one of the most inspiring and hopeful anime series I've watched. If people saw the world the way Akari does, I truly believe the world would be a much kinder place.
Princess Jellyfish
Cross Game
Non Non Biyori
Hidamari Sketch
Yuru Yuri
Ichigo Mashimaro
Manabi Straight
Sweetness and Lightning
Genshiken
Lucky Star
Kimi ni todoke is romance
