is Golden Kamuy good?
Just watched the first two episodes and I’m undecided; should I keep going? I noticed that the final season is currently airing, so I’m debating whether this is worth adding to my seasonal watchlist now or if I should hold off.
So far it seems promising, but nothing has really blown me away yet. The story has potential and I can see where it might be heading, but the early episodes haven’t fully hooked me. The CGI is honestly my biggest concern; it’s not great, though it’s still bearable.
For people who’ve stuck with it: does the animation improve as the series goes on? And does the plot pick up enough to make it worth continuing, especially with the finale season airing right now?

It may do so while also disgusting and confusing you, and also being strangely arousing. And not.
Hang on tight is all I can say.
:)
The story is great, and distracting CGI is mostly a feature of the first season.
There are 4 OVA episodes, but on streaming sites you will find only 3 (they usually have 1st OVA episode twice - once as 1/1 entry, then it's first episode of 1/3 entry). The last one was only released in 480p since it was only included on bonus dvd with manga.
So if anyone wants to watch the most fucked up episode of Golden Kamuy then look for torrents that actually have 4 OVA episodes (with the last one having less size since it's only 480p).
Sorry for offtopic.
NGL S1 is still complimented by content better than the vast majority of anime, so it's not something to complain about. Average animation and CGi bears won't wreck a series on their own.
That being said, Golden Kamuy is one of my fav stories of all time. It's full of fascinating ideas and delightful plots. It has some of the best choreographed action I've seen since hxh. It balances silliness with extremely dark scenes/ideas in a way that isn't jarring like Invincible or the Critical Role animation.
If you keep watching, you will not be disappointed. I promise.
1) The comic relief is reminiscent of Frieren, Dungeon Meshi, Medalist, in that the story has drama/thrill, but is often interrupted by competent comic relief. You have these hard boiled badasses that often break character to act either effeminate or childish (and it works so well, I can't stop laughing, my favorite one is the dude that sounds like Reiner).
2) You HAVE to read Dogsred as well, same author, and arguably funnier.
3) Golden Kamuy has a pretty engrossing main campaign, with 3 main factions often competing and commingling with each other (alternating between enemies and friends, swapping party members).
4) Ushiyama is the best.
5) The first few episodes are pretty dull, I think it picked up a ton when we saw the hunter encounter. The segments where the girl explains lore to "Ore wa fujimi no SUGIMOTO-DA!! AAAAHH!!" were my least favorite, but ultimately very brief anyways. The story is about meeting new male badasses brawling, goring, and killing one another (and often times becoming temporary allies after the fact).
Keep going, the male characters are quite charismatic, fun, badass, etc. They even have a callous killer bad boy.
