KnobbyDibbler2026-01-20 23:03
I love seeing Sakamoto so high after all the complaints about the first part's animation.
It's a really fun series.
Gamerguy2302026-01-20 23:27
Been thinking about watching it. Is it complete with second part or they doing third part?
KnobbyDibbler2026-01-20 23:29
Yeah, season 2 finished a few weeks ago. I think they're working on season 3 but I'm not certain.
Edit: the first full length season is split in two, and each part has its own theme song so I counted them separately originally. The next season will be season 2 part 1. -_-
ShielderKnight2026-01-20 23:29
Season 1 is divided in part 1 and 2 so thats finished but the story is not over yet and will continue with a season 2 which had been confirmed.
tonyhawkofwar2026-01-21 01:01
The manga is still on-going, but probably not for much longer.
gregarius_the_third2026-01-21 00:52
Me too, it’s so good. Fuck the haters.
Electrical_Chance9912026-01-21 01:23
Most of the soo called "haters" were manga readers who were simply upset that they didn't get an adaptation that went "above and beyond" elevating the source material to another level like JJK, CSM or Dandadan.
While a bit unfair yes, Sakamoto days is a Weekly Shonen jump manga and it's main selling point is it's action choreography. Anime while being "decent/good", didn't even came close to replicating the insane action choreography and "cool" factor of the manga. The fans wanted something where animators went absolutely batshit crazy with creativity and extended fights.
Saint_Knowles2026-01-21 18:04
Anime fans are getting greedy with their expectations in all honesty. Sakamoto days has fine animation. It's in a whole different league than OPM s2 and it's better than early episodes of 2000s battle shounen (bleach, Naruto, OP) in terms of sakuga. Also has a killer soundtrack. I put off watching Sakamoto until recently because the sourness of its fans got to me, but after watching season 1 I can confidently say people were over exaggerating it's flaws/outright hating on release. It's a super solid series.
dalzmc2026-01-21 01:09
wtf I missed seeing that and watched it late, there were complaints? Didn’t notice but I guess I was distracted by how damn fun and enjoyable the show was anyways lmao
Electrical_Chance9912026-01-21 01:26
Complaints came from Manga readers since Sakamoto Days manga has some of the best action choreography in manga medium. You can go ahead and see how good the action is in the manga. But watching anime you never feel that the action here is something "special".
The manga readers wanted an anime adaptation that went above and beyond like what JJK, CSM or Dandadan had. They wanted something where animators went absolutely batshit crazy with creativity and extended fights.
But Sakadays adaptation was only "good", it didn't do anything "above and beyond", it just followed the manga bar for bar even during action scenes and even those really didn't do the manga's action choreography justice. It was missing the "cool" factor that was present in the manga.
dalzmc2026-01-21 01:33
Damn, I’m gonna have to check out the manga for sure. At least I’m consuming it in the right order for maximum enjoyment lol I’m actually so excited to see how it could be even cooler
phoenixmusicman2026-01-21 02:41
Record of Ragnarok S3 also ended up #7 or #8 after complaints about its 2 first seasons as well
FatherDotComical2026-01-21 03:06
Part 2 of season 1 was even better than the first part than my opinion.
Really solid show and I like the characters.
runevault2026-01-20 23:46
Sad to see Fragrant Flower didn't crack the top 5. I wonder how much it got hurt by the massive delayed launch outside Asia.
whateverhehqoqoqjdv2026-01-20 23:58
It got 11,100,000 so it was right there just barely didn’t crack top 5.
Dolomite8082026-01-21 00:24
I know that I did not watch it on netflix, despite being subscribed to the service. I had to use...other means to watch it because I didn't want to wait months for it.
Time_Fracture2026-01-21 01:43
It's in 7th! Just below Demon Slayer Unwavering Resolve Arc.
Galactus17012026-01-21 02:58
I just want them to release a Fragrant Flower Blu Ray box set!
FatherDotComical2026-01-21 03:10
The Dub for that was so poor. I know that dubs typically are pretty popular for Netflix watchers so maybe that just viewership was hurt by that.
Not as bad as it could be because it still had a lot of views, but even as a dub lover it was hard to sit through.
runevault2026-01-21 10:23
I don't disagree. I watched the first few episodes twice (sub and dub both) to help give viewed hours and also because I enjoyed thinking about and poking at the show (despite it being a very straightforward story carried by fantastic characters), but I gave up on the dub after episode 5. And I prefer Dubs if they are of simply adequate quality.
LegoC972026-01-21 01:28
I'm glad to see My Melody & Kuromi on this list. It was my surprise hit of last year and maybe its success will mean a second season.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's cute, wholesome, and extremely well-made stop-motion animation with an actual thought-provoking story and a touch of existential dread that Sanrio has gotten so good at telling.
brb10062026-01-21 05:55
My Melody & Kuromi and various Sanrio animated content are perfect comfort shows (with a minor of Aggretsuko due to being aimed at an older audience). Also My Sweet Piano is OP as hell!
phoenixmusicman2026-01-21 02:40
Damn Record of Ragnarok S3 with 10.7m views, not far off top 5, I think it is rank 7 or 8?
Time_Fracture2026-01-21 16:52
8th. It's quite impressive given it only aired about a month ago.
I am curious on Steel Ball Run's number in first half of 2026. (and also Hell's Paradise S2, since it is available on Netflix only in certain regions).
ManjirouFuri2026-01-21 07:12
Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Arc should be at #5 above Entertainment District with 11.6M views. Netflix has been cutting its views in half the past 2 years due to them mistakenly doubling its runtime.
Puzzleheaded-Ant73672026-01-21 07:57
I think this seasons top will be there too
1. Jujutsu Kaisen Culling Game
2. Frieren S2
3. Hell Paradise S2
anyaxforge2026-01-22 18:24
No apothecary diaries ?
longbrodmann2026-01-22 22:35
Sakamoto days got those views? Feels like this anime is not so viral on the internet.
mr_beanoz2026-01-20 22:34
That's also quite the audience for My Melody & Kuromi! But when compared to other non anime shows of Netflix they still do pale in comparison.
gruntmods2026-01-21 08:28
its surprisingly good, watched it with the girlfriend and honestly enjoyed it
FetchFrosh2026-01-20 22:48
I'm most interested in how it says that anime represented 4% of all viewing. Seems wild when the top anime are an order of magnitude below the other top properties, but I guess Netflix has a deep library of anime at this point.
UMP45isnotflat2026-01-20 23:26
Especially since compared to the usual slop shows on Netflix a season of anime has less than half the runtime, which means half as many hours watched (the metric streamers care about) by default
wloff2026-01-20 23:42
Doesn't that sound about right, then? 4% is not a lot.
FetchFrosh2026-01-20 23:56
4% isn't a ton, but just comparing against everything else that they show, anime is *way* lower. Of course we don't have a comprehensive list of *everything* so it's hard to make super meaningful statements, but seeing the numbers for the stuff at the top (especially since it's hard to gauge if "viewing" here is meant in total time or total views) but seeing the comparison to other media at the top end I'd have definitely assumed even less than 4%.
Edit: Huh, they have a more comprehensive document attached (literally thousands of items). Might dig through it.
saurabh84482026-01-21 12:34
A lot of anime viewing comes from long series like Naruto and one piece. As they have huge number of episodes, number of views is less but viewing time is high.
zenithfury2026-01-21 02:33
Doesn't seem strange to me. Anime and manga can sometimes get live action adaptations, precisely because they're attempting to capture something of the mainstream market. And if we cast our net wider to include non-Japanese animation, Kpop Demon Hunters surpassed many shows.
FetchFrosh2026-01-21 02:38
I'm not referring to the specific popularity of anime in a broad sense. I'm looking at the raw data that they've provided for the most popular content and saying "based on these it feels unlikely it would be that high". But I'll spend the weekend going over the full dataset and see what we get.
zenithfury2026-01-21 02:42
Well the data is just viewership right? I'm pretty sure there is a lot of overlap between Wednesday and Dandadan viewers, for example.
FetchFrosh2026-01-21 02:49
I mean there might be but again I'm looking at how Wednesday is an order of magnitude greater than Dandadan in viewership. I'm seeing that there isn't an anime in the Top 50 most watched. And with that Top 50 accounting for nearly 20% of all viewership, it's surprising to me that a full 4% is anime. But again, this is going to require going through a dataset of 15 000 entries on Netflix to get some meaningful data.
Shimaru332026-01-20 22:48
The first season was so good, the hype for the second was all time high. But after the exorcism song episode, I feel like the show didn't live up to the expectations. I don't it was bad, damn, I say the worst of DanDaDan is still above your average anime, light years ahead of your "kicked out the party for being weak, but actually I'm the strongest" slop.
Maybe I feel that way because I found the pervert mecha fan guy to be unbearable, while Aria feels wasted as have little to no appearance or contribution so far.
PerceptionOk85432026-01-20 22:51
Agreed, the mecha fight isn’t Dan da Dan usual quality
KnobbyDibbler2026-01-20 23:04
Aw but the backpack coming out of nowhere was hilarious. Even bad dandadan is pretty good.
Zaustus2026-01-20 23:22
I love Dandadan, but I know Kinta in particular can divide opinion. I find him hilarious myself. I'm hyped for season 3 next year, since it'll adapt the consensus best arc of the manga.
Amatorius2026-01-20 23:23
Got tired of their clothes being blown off every episode for gags.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 00:53
That happens twice
Amatorius2026-01-21 01:21
It happened more then twice, IDK what show you are watching.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 01:30
That’s literally just not true
Amatorius2026-01-21 02:15
They be running around naked(or mostly naked) in at least these episodes 1, 9, 13. That is already more then 2 times, and I know there is a more. You all like the show and are just trying to downplay that fact that it use that same gag over and over.
duo99dusk2026-01-20 23:28
And I feel the manga never recovers after that, some character arcs are draaawn out till this day.
Megaclone182026-01-20 23:45
Most people would put the upcoming arc as the peak of the manga so far.
moneycity_maniac2026-01-20 23:53
The first four episodes being dedicated to the cultist house arc was a bit rough, but the show recovered for me as the season went on. I would still say season 1 was better and more consistent overall.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 00:53
Nah Kinta is the goat, Aira also was not present for a lot of S2, but when she was there she was definitely helpful, the music fight was peak and she really helped Okarun unlock some of his potential
tgf52026-01-21 04:30
It's sad that someone says it's good but then didn't like one part and gets downvoted. Sorry but Dandadan just wasn't for me either. Must suck that people don't all share the same opinions huh?
Shimaru332026-01-21 06:11
Meh.
Despite the popular idea of a hivemind, reddit isn't one and there's always one or two guy who will disagree for the sake of disagreeing. That's why the meme "people will argue over anything <insert obvious fact like 1+1=2>" is so popular, because effectively people can always find a reason to discuss.
As for dandadan, despite my initial message, I love it and I'm expecting the next season as well. Let's hope it makes justice to what people keep repeating (best arc!), certainly dandadan have been the best anime in years. Despite the glasses guy presence.
BlackHumor2026-01-21 06:14
I agree Season 1 was slightly better than Season 2 but IMO it was very slight. And honestly I'd say the slight pacing issues of the first arc were more my issue than Kinta. I actually kinda like Kinta.
SliderGamer552026-01-20 22:50
I'm happy that my favorite ongoing shonen anime (barring One Piece) is at the top. Good job everyone!
Due-Rent-65272026-01-20 23:02
Coming off the heels of the manga being one of the winners of the 71st Shogakukan Manga Awards (one of the most prestigious awards for manga), DanDaDan just keeps winning and winning. Congratulations to Tatsu and Science SARU again 🎉🎉🎉

PSN-Angryjackal2026-01-20 23:25
How did it compare to solo leveling?
wloff2026-01-20 23:47
Solo Leveling had 2.5M views, so DanDaDan s2 crushed it. But this is also data only from the second half of 2025, when Solo Leveling had already finished.
e: Out of curiosity, I went and found the data for first half of 2025, and Solo Leveling had 7.4M views then, so 9.9M total in all of 2025.
PSN-Angryjackal2026-01-20 23:51
Oh wow, I expected better.
Blue_Reaper992026-01-21 06:14
Solo leveling is only available in Asian countries for Netflix.
PSN-Angryjackal2026-01-21 14:30
I dont have netflix, so I didnt know that. Thanks.

way too high

Oh yeah I agree, and I read both manhwa
qwertyqwerty45672026-01-21 01:05
just to be clear, im talking about dandadan's views being too high, Solo leveling's are too low.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 01:07
Oh haha that’s a funny joke
Candid_Ad47612026-01-21 02:57
Dandadan didn’t “crush” Solo Leveling. Dandadan is available in 190+ countries, while Solo Leveling is only available in a limited number of markets (like \~10 at most). If Solo Leveling had a true worldwide release on netflix, its numbers would be much bigger. and it would have outperform Dandadan by a significant margin.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 04:27
Where are you getting this info
Candid_Ad47612026-01-21 04:59
From a site that tracks Netflix availability by country… because that’s how you verify *availability by country*. I remember checking 3 months ago for popular titles. I was curious whether Solo Leveling could’ve been a Demon Slayer level hit with a true worldwide rollout, and yes it would have outperformed even demon slayer if it had gotten the same global push Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen got exposed to Netflix’s \~330M paid users. it could’ve been the next breakout.
Funny how Netflix didn’t waste time on the live-action announcement after Season 2. Almost like the completion rate was ridiculous in the handful of countries that actually had it
wloff2026-01-21 07:18
Dandadan crushed Solo Leveling on this specific list of Netflix viewership that we're discussing.
As for your last point, you have absolutely no way of knowing that.
Candid_Ad47612026-01-21 07:29
Oh, shut up. The chart literally has a yes/no for ‘worldwide release’ next to each title. If you want a fair framing: Solo Leveling was effectively limited to Crunchyroll’s \~17M paid users, while Dandadan had Netflix-scale distribution (\~330M paid users). Even with that gap, Solo Leveling still crushed dandadan in *global relevance*.. [Global Relevance](https://trends.google.com/explore?q=dandadan%2Csolo%2520leveling&date=today%205-y&geo=Worldwide).
So no Dandadan did not crush solo leveling on any relevant list not even this list. It god crushed.
wloff2026-01-21 07:45
You're being really weird about this. To anyone with any common sense, it should be obvious these are only Netflix numbers, and represent only a fraction of both shows' total viewership.
Again, the question was "How did it compare to solo leveling?" and the answer is "Dan Da Dan did 17M compared to Solo Leveling's 2.5M". That's all there is to it.
Candid_Ad47612026-01-21 07:48
The numbers themselves aren’t the issue. Labeling it a ‘crush’ without context is misleading, and that’s what annoys me.
Blue_Reaper992026-01-21 06:18
>Solo Leveling had 2.5M views, so DanDaDan s2 crushed it
SL doesn't have worldwide availability on Netflix. Only available in some Asian countries. It is mostly a CR exclusive show
AveryLazyCovfefe2026-01-21 00:47
CR is the true home of Solo Levelling I'd argue (Sony animates, produces and distributes it themselves through their own service). So I wouldn't count it.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 00:56
Solo Leveling isn’t on Netflix in the US (or seemingly most western countries) so if the data is from Netflix streaming it must be in Asia
Time_Fracture2026-01-21 16:58
If the S2 numbers is 2.5 million, it's quite an impressive watch.
The Apothecary Diaries, also only avalable on Netflix in Asia, managed to get 2.0 million views for Season 2.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 18:13
Wait, Apothecary Diaries was only on Netflix in Asia? I didn't know that, that's funny, because I watched it all on Netflix
duo99dusk2026-01-20 23:28
No Ranma 😔
UMP45isnotflat2026-01-20 23:28
Still unreal that we live in a time were Netflix has a decent anime catalogue. Crappyrole cant get enough competition.
AveryLazyCovfefe2026-01-21 00:44
I mean CR has Dandadan too. They were both licensed the series in most regions.
But yeah, in general I've got to hand it to Netflix for funding ambitious original stuff, and for the stuff they just license it's clear they fully understand what their market is.
I do wish they go alot more into licensing more older stuff though. Eva was good, they got the dub for Cowboy Bebop, GTO, Nearly all the Ghibli films.
I would go even further, stuff like Akira, the classic original GITS film and not the shitty 'remaster', OG FMA, Lain. Hell even something like Galactic Heroes or Inuyasha.
I mean the CR CEO straight up admitted once that they sort of have a deal where Netflix would get the season 1 of series a year or two after it bypremieres on CR from time to time and they almost always see an influx of users subbing to watch the rest of the series that has aired since, or films of that franchise.
I've watched alot more original anime on Netflix recently that elicited the reaction of "Huh, this looks like something I haven't really watched before" even if I ended up not liking the series much. Compared to CR which does feel quite a bit derivative these days, especially during a dry season or two.
It also helps that Netflix has an actual good content recommendation system. Shit is designed to keep you hooked on it like a drug, I've studied a bit of it for doing a report at uni once and it's damn sophisticated. Employing all sorts of other tactics like emails giving you reccs and consistently asking you for feedback on a series.
CR's barely holds a single candle to it. I've needed to rely on Reddit and other sources for good reccs in my preferred genres. But the service sure does love pushing the latest isekai release to you even if you tell it you don't like that genre... It's like they're actively pushing me away from giving them more money lmao.
They can't even get their content organisation right, quite a few series have had their latest arcs organised at the top like it's the first season if they weren't marketed/released originally with a explicit number originally.
So their primitive system just automatically assigns them as 'season 0' - seen so many people who aren't fully in the loop of a series they're watching be victim to this. Ridiculous that somehow a multi-billion corpo like Sony has only managed this service worse since taking over.
UMP45isnotflat2026-01-21 01:36
Im mainly just against a monopoly, especially when that would be crappyrole. Exclusive streaming rights suck too.
Ghibli beeing on Netflix is still so crazy for me, because just a few years ago you could not stream their movies anywhere and instead I had to buy the BDs, because Miyazaki thought movies needed to be experienced in cinema or something.
I just dont like CR for many reasons. I dont want Netflix influencing anime, but I appreciate if they have shows. And they have a surprising number of shows in my country even.
I dont use Netflix to find new anime, thats all reddit or MAL, but since I have Netflix anyway atleast I can watch it legally for once.
wloff2026-01-21 07:21
> I just dont like CR for many reasons.
While that's probably fair, is Netflix really any better in any regard?
wickling-fan2026-01-21 08:39
tbf it's easy to hate crunchy when they also just pull out a lot of crappy stunts, people acting like their quality is declining now as if they didn't automatically make funimation/dubs worse the second they became one ruining subtitles, no longer dubbing songs(hence why series like zombieland have dubbed songs on season 1 but not 2),and slowly over time just made the things that funi had over them originally worse since then especially with AI sub they claim not to do, or the fact they actively kept fan mail for their voice actors or threw it away or the fact they threw a temper tantrum because dandadan wanted to have as wide an audience as possible so they decided to not promote it as much( some of these views could have been theirs if they hadn't been so prickly about it)
brb10062026-01-21 05:57
Crossing my finger for the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime to gain similar treatment between CR and Netflix.
InfinitePluribius2026-01-20 23:36

blitznB2026-01-20 23:37
lol makes me laugh cause all the weird new anime fans complaining about Momo getting attacked by aliens and cultists makes Dan Da Dan an anime for degenerates. Such a good anime, glad many others are enjoying it as well.
guesswhomste2026-01-21 00:51
It’s a very strange mindset that people have where a bad thing happens to a character (the scene really is not sexualized as well) and people try to make it out like it’s glorifying the act
zenithfury2026-01-21 02:39
And for people complaining about that scene, there's no logic in what they're saying either. The point of the scene is to create revulsion for the antagonists, and draw a parallel to 'real world' alien abductions and the meme of cosmic travelers coming to Earth to anally probe humans lol.
The problem is that in the minds of some people, every moment of nudity or explicitness is either overtly or covertly just porn for anime viewers. In their minds, all anime watchers are degenerates in the first place. It's just never worth it placating such mindsets.
wickling-fan2026-01-21 08:31
tbf it doesn't help that there is a very vocal section that does mostly focus on how horny they got seeing a highschool girl getting stripped down that think fanservice is the end all be all and it just ends up in flame wars between both sides or the hypocrisy/argument that everyone would have been okay if it had been Okarun(followed up by okarun also being stripped down the next episode was fun).
markswam2026-01-21 04:17
People do that a lot. Depicting traumatic events at all is ***always*** reframed as "glorifying" or "fetishizing" by certain types.
HarshTheDev2026-01-21 08:11
I personally don't mind that scene much, mostly because I'm desensitised to stuff like that by this point, but you're straight lying if you say that scene wasn't framed gratuitously.
jojoismyreligion2026-01-21 09:00
The amount of knee jerk reactions to any sensitive stuff depicted on media baffles me. It's as if they have tunnel vision and only focus on the bad thing happening and take it face value without realzing it itself is shown to be a horrible thing.
I pray these people never read Berserk they might get seizures.
Less_Party2026-01-21 11:05
What I take issue with in Dandadan is how it's often not really serving any narrative purpose. Ep.1 is one thing like okay they're aliens they don't really know what they're doing but that hot springs episode where a bunch of creeps are about to run a train on Momo and then once she escapes she simply goes about her day like nothing happened just feels like it's not treating sensitive subject matter with any sort of care. Why even write it like that if she would've ended up in the exact same place and mental state if they'd just tried to kick her ass?
guesswhomste2026-01-21 15:58
Because none of the characters in Dandadan are written to act “realistically” in the vast majority of situations, and it’s also been shown that her reaction to scary moments like that is very different from most people’s. She’s got a very level head.
jolly_chugger2026-01-21 12:48
Sorry, this is totally unrelated, but that's my issue with Takopi
I don't understand how people can think that show is OK?
It's dealing with some of the darkest themes *possible* for the human experience, and handles them with the care of a Saturday morning cartoon.
Honestly makes me sick to my stomach, and the only anime I've ever dropped for this reason.
malayis2026-01-21 01:16
How many people did you see voice that specific opinion?
You can be grossed out by those scenes (like I am) without projecting that onto other people, and I'm gonna guess that it's the majority of people who would prefer if those scenes weren't there.
Personally I'm still happy the series is doing well though. With or without these scenes, there's so much to appreciate about Dandadan
blitznB2026-01-21 01:26
I’ve seen it many times on threads/posts that mention Dan Da Dan on this sub. I get not liking an anime genre or subject matter. I personally refuse to watch Grave of the Fireflies or Made In the Abyss. Yet these types constantly complain about an anime they either didn’t watch or hate watched that it’s a bit obnoxious.
malayis2026-01-21 01:35
I guess I get it...? But I think it's worth remembering, that these threads are viewed by tens of thousands of people, and even if only a fraction of a percentage of them happen to be mad enough for whatever reason, you'll see these comments
To an extent aggressive comments from weird people are just a function of how popular an anime is and pure statistics, so maybe it's not worth getting too bothered by that?
But again I know that it's still natural to be frustrated
abandoned_idol2026-01-21 01:55
About the same amount of time I've recommended it to newbs.
"Dandadan isn't an anime that you should recommend to newcomers."
"You shouldn't be recommending Dandadan to newbies."
So around ~200 times since Dandadan first aired. I think it's an amazing first anime.
And my post also gets negative karma, so it's not just one person either.
Partyman2342026-01-20 23:47
For some extra numbers:
The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity: Season 1 (11.1M )
Record of Ragnarok: Season 3 (10.7M)
One-Punch Man: Season 3 (6.1M)
The Summer Hikaru Died: Season 1 (5.3M)
Ranma 1/2: Season 2 (3.7M)
phoenixmusicman2026-01-21 02:42
RECORD OF RAGNAROK MENTIONED RAAAAAAAH 🔥🔥 WHAT THE FUCK IS A VOLUNDR
Gregariouswaty2026-01-21 06:30
6.1 million people watched a slideshow on Netflix.
MathematicianKey96382026-01-22 09:09
Getting these numbers but not putting money in production is baffling
wickling-fan2026-01-21 08:26
Damn, wonder what the numbers were back when they first released great pretender or carole and tuesday. Be nice to compare their anime original's to the bigger adaptations like nanatsu no taizai (least these are the only two notable ones i can think of)
Gars0n2026-01-21 13:01
Damn, I'm shocked and sad that Ranma is trailing so far behind. The remake has been excellent so far.
randompersonn9752026-01-22 10:42
I'd say its pretty good for a remake of a pretty old series that never even aired in America actually. Rurouni Kenshin is way more well known, yet I don't hear much online about the remake at all compared to Ranma. Here's to hoping the numbers are decent enough for it to get renewed for more seasons!
Gars0n2026-01-22 16:06
I think the Kenshin one is in a different boat. The author was convicted of possession of CSAM. That turns people, particularly content creators, off supporting adaptations because he is still profiting from it. So it loses potential audience inherently and loses the word-of-mouth promotion.
Ranma, by contrast, has only aged better with time. I didn't realize it never even aired in the US so that definitely makes sense that it's not getting the international nostalgia eyeballs.
I also hope the number justify Mappa still giving Ranma the top-tier adaptation it has received. Especially because the original never even got to the end of the manga!
randompersonn9752026-01-22 18:08
Oh yeah you're totally right about Kenshin! I don't see much people on international social media talking about the remake at all, so yeah the scandal definitely seemed to affect the remake's appeal to international audiences.
Yes I hope these numbers are good enough for MAPPA to keep adapting to the ending. It may be similarish to Urusei Yatsura where they only adapt the major arcs so they can reach the ending faster. It would be terrible for Ranma 1/2 to stay as the one Rumiko Takahashi series that never gets the ending animated. There's a big announcement in March regarding Ranma so fingers crossed its season 3 announcement.
Impressive_Poetry3832026-01-20 23:51
Netflix sucks The subs were terrible. Better to watch it online for free than to subscribe
ArchadianJudge2026-01-21 01:20
It was my favorite anime when it was airing as well!
I already miss Momo... I need the next season...
HipsDontKawaiii2026-01-21 01:49
Wow. But also not surprised, it's super bingeable, memeable and easy to recommend even to ppl who don't usually watch anime. Hopefully this means more seasons and more studios willing to take risks 👏🏻
abandoned_idol2026-01-21 01:52
Every time I recommend Dandadan on this subreddit, another user crawls up to me to reprimand me for suggesting something "highly crazy and inappropriate for newbies".
I keep getting mixed signals in this subreddit.
That said, I also love Dandadan and will continue to recommend it to newbies! :D
Maliblue132026-01-21 04:39
I think it's really hit or miss both with people who are new to anime and with long time fans. But when it does hit, it leaves an impact.
Tomlambro2026-01-21 05:22
I recommend it too, with the warning "don't stop at episode #1 !".
DerWiedl2026-01-21 06:46
My rule of thumb is: Would I recommend it to my mom or coworkers? Dandadan does not fit in these criteria.
abandoned_idol2026-01-21 07:14
I'd never recommend any anime to my parents.
I always had to keep this hobby a secret.
DerWiedl2026-01-21 07:30
It‘s just a thought-experiment. I don‘t actually recommend stuff haha.
Zetafunction642026-01-21 08:02
That's like the majority of the shonen anime
ohoni2026-01-22 06:00
I love Dandadan to bits, but it's definitely a "recommend, but with caveats." It would NEVER be the first thing I showed someone I didn't know would enjoy it on all levels. I'd show them some other stuff first and figure out whether they would be able to get past the first ep without tripping.
zenithfury2026-01-21 02:27
Can't lie, Netflix is my gateway to J and Kdramas lol. And anime of course, but I suppose that CR is superior.
StudioLegion2026-01-21 02:30
Damn straight
ReflectionItchy27012026-01-21 02:47
Not surprised at all. The manga fucking rules.
solythe2026-01-21 05:17
Dandadan also been running on toonami, got to think that helped a bit too
Simple_Ad33272026-01-21 07:30
It was a good watch
AwesomeNino2026-01-21 08:56
Can anyone tell how Netflix calculate a show's views?
Less_Party2026-01-21 11:09
It's their own platform, they have direct data on how often they played the video the same way Youtube does.
wearesoback7862026-01-21 09:02
Man, those numbers are low.
I don't know why but I expected more.
17 million views for 12 episodes mean each episode didn't even a averaged 1.5 million views per episode.
In comparison to when I see donghua (chinese anime) views numbers.
A very low quality chinese anime can get over 20 million views easily.
Great product animes like to be hero x and Lord of mysteries has 300 million+ views.
Link click has 700 million+ total views.
Top of the barrel products like Renegade immortal and RMJI has more than 5 billion+ total views.
In comparison to that west anime numbers looks so bad and below mediocre.
ComfortableSurvey8152026-01-21 09:23
I watched Dandadan on disney+. Glad it’s on there, I stopped watching Netflix after that household bullshit
Azatis-2026-01-21 10:37
Sadly i didn't enjoyed s2 as much as s1
eksnoblade2026-01-21 15:39
It helps that TV apps don't support crunchyroll as much as Netflix. I much prefer using my TV remote than having to turn on my ps5, go through the menus, then turn it off and have the damn TV turn on my ps5 automatically when I turn the TV back on.
If crunchyroll had a proper app. Scratch that. If I can get the proper app on a Samsung TV without going through Samsung bullshit, (already less accessible then the default Netflix app on the rv) then I'd much rather watch it in crunchyroll.
mynameistc2026-01-21 15:51
Not saying anything to make your experience invalid. I just want to tell you that you can disable CEC on your playstation so it doesn’t do that.
eksnoblade2026-01-21 16:06
Yea, I've thought about it. It makes turning off the TV and ps5 off at the same time easier, but when source is left on the ps5 hdmi, oh man is it annoying. I might just settle for turning out off though
Time_Fracture2026-01-21 16:50

Some recent anime are low, but that's reasonable since Netflix isn't the only platform they are streaming (some also available on Crunchyroll and other platforms as well). TSHD and Orb viewership is quite low I guess.
I am curious about how Solo Leveling fares in the second half of the 2025 fares. It is only listed as Solo Leveling: Season 1 with 2.500.000 views, but no info on Season 2.
CandusManus2026-01-21 20:05
That shouldn't really shock anyone. I want to know how it compared to normie shows.
6beez92026-01-24 02:15
Ugh so good
Pure_Practice_87702026-01-25 04:04
Is the manga better than the show? I really enjoy reading
Commentaires
1. Dan Da Dan: Season 2 (17.2M)
2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Training Arc (14.4M)
3. My Melody & Kuromi: Season 1 (12.9M)
4. SAKAMOTO DAYS: Season 1 (12.1M)
5. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Entertainment District Arc (11.4M)
EDIT: Updated with Netflix's actual numbers ([at the bottom of the article](https://assets.ctfassets.net/4cd45et68cgf/2vdDPGLKA0XX2cjF2APJFn/7f1c367b39ed73a6a588751d3c5d0252/What_We_Watched_A_Netflix_Engagement_Report_2025Jul-Dec__6_.xlsx))
It's a really fun series.
Edit: the first full length season is split in two, and each part has its own theme song so I counted them separately originally. The next season will be season 2 part 1. -_-
While a bit unfair yes, Sakamoto days is a Weekly Shonen jump manga and it's main selling point is it's action choreography. Anime while being "decent/good", didn't even came close to replicating the insane action choreography and "cool" factor of the manga. The fans wanted something where animators went absolutely batshit crazy with creativity and extended fights.
Really solid show and I like the characters.
Not as bad as it could be because it still had a lot of views, but even as a dub lover it was hard to sit through.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's cute, wholesome, and extremely well-made stop-motion animation with an actual thought-provoking story and a touch of existential dread that Sanrio has gotten so good at telling.
I am curious on Steel Ball Run's number in first half of 2026. (and also Hell's Paradise S2, since it is available on Netflix only in certain regions).
1. Jujutsu Kaisen Culling Game
2. Frieren S2
3. Hell Paradise S2
Edit: Huh, they have a more comprehensive document attached (literally thousands of items). Might dig through it.
Maybe I feel that way because I found the pervert mecha fan guy to be unbearable, while Aria feels wasted as have little to no appearance or contribution so far.
Despite the glasses guy presence.
e: Out of curiosity, I went and found the data for first half of 2025, and Solo Leveling had 7.4M views then, so 9.9M total in all of 2025.
Funny how Netflix didn’t waste time on the live-action announcement after Season 2. Almost like the completion rate was ridiculous in the handful of countries that actually had it
As for your last point, you have absolutely no way of knowing that.
So no Dandadan did not crush solo leveling on any relevant list not even this list. It god crushed.
Again, the question was "How did it compare to solo leveling?" and the answer is "Dan Da Dan did 17M compared to Solo Leveling's 2.5M". That's all there is to it.
SL doesn't have worldwide availability on Netflix. Only available in some Asian countries. It is mostly a CR exclusive show
The Apothecary Diaries, also only avalable on Netflix in Asia, managed to get 2.0 million views for Season 2.
While that's probably fair, is Netflix really any better in any regard?
The problem is that in the minds of some people, every moment of nudity or explicitness is either overtly or covertly just porn for anime viewers. In their minds, all anime watchers are degenerates in the first place. It's just never worth it placating such mindsets.
I pray these people never read Berserk they might get seizures.
I don't understand how people can think that show is OK?
It's dealing with some of the darkest themes *possible* for the human experience, and handles them with the care of a Saturday morning cartoon.
Honestly makes me sick to my stomach, and the only anime I've ever dropped for this reason.
To an extent aggressive comments from weird people are just a function of how popular an anime is and pure statistics, so maybe it's not worth getting too bothered by that?
But again I know that it's still natural to be frustrated
