Girlies help please!! 🫶

Hi girlies, I recently got back into anime after being bullied out of it years ago. I’ve gone back and watched some of my favourites, Fairy tail and Naruto, and I’ve even started watching one piece for the first time. However, I keep noticing the female characters are getting sidelined or overshadowed by the male characters. I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations for animes that don’t over sexualize the girls, and preferably has female characters that are powerful in comparison to the men. I’ve been recommended shows like frieren and while I do wanna watch it, I’m looking for something that I can binge for a while, and with more of the classic shonen feel like Naruto and one piece but for the girls if any of you could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated! :))

Side note: I’ve also heard that soul eater is good, however I’ve also heard the cat turns into a sexualized girl. So I’m wondering how we feel about it before i get into it.

The show is a comedy first and foremost and just happens to have action-heavy arcs at points (particularly near the end), but you'll *probably* like Gintama? Plenty of great female characters in that one who are allowed to be equally as silly and strong as the male characters are.

Soul Eater (and Soul Eater NOT) are decent. Sexualization can work when done decently. As in, it is within character's lore.

If you want Shonen Dan da Dan is having a great female MC. However girls in most Shonen are not really best written. I also think jujutsu Kaizen has really bad ass girls. Soul eater is ok, Maka is actually quite nice, and don't worry about cat

Yeah that's a pretty common sentiment. I hear good things about MHA: Vigilantes but when I ask about the three main characters all I get is "this one's like Batman, this one's like Spider-Man, and that one's a girl."

Anyway, try The Witch and the Beast, Witch Craft Works, Lycoris Recoil, Noir, Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Roll Over and Die for starters.

All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku - There are 6 OVA and two series. The first series is good, the last one (Dash!) is more Ecchi so may not be to your liking. She is an Android girl who is actually a cat.She actually has quite a road to humanity and even has more humanity than normal people in the show. It's a combination between slap stick comedy and sci fi. She's quite strong and saves people from whacky inventions and staff from an evil corporation.

Ramen Akaneko - Ramen shop run by cats. The one human who works there is the former owner's granddaughter. It's a lovely show, she's not sidelined, and not only grows herself but helps others grow.

The Apothecary Diaries - Great female cast. Based loosely on inner courtyard of Imperial China. Does have mature subject matter based on the era.

High School Fleet - Basically like a Marine School where girls go to train to be "Blue Mermaids" almost like Coast Guard/Marine. Lots of action with battleships.

Kemono Friends - Mystery, Friendship and more. Don't let the unique animation style fool you it's got a story that really works.

Shichinin no Nana - Power rangers style show where girl gets split into 7 different copies each with part of her personality.

Kill la Kill features strong female characters. There is a lot if skin shown since nudity is kind of a core theme, but the women are stripped as often as the men are. You do see the female MC scantily clad the most, but she has the most screen time after all.

Black Lagoon is one of my favorites. The biggest badasses are women. They are usually hot, but not oversexualized. It does have some pretty dark story lines though, some are not for the faint of heart.

In Delicious in Dungeon/Dungeon Meshi, the most powerful of the party members is an elf mage named Marcille. There is one bath scene with her but that's about it.

Cool female protag (and funny), and lots of action (racing).

Fate/Stay Night (the protag is a guy, but the co-star, if you will, Saber is one of all time fav female characters in anime. If you’re looking for a version that doesn’t really have any “sexualization”, then I recommend Unlimited Blade Works. Heavens Feel is also great but those are movies, not series.

I wish someone would make an anime out of the Alita: Battle Angel manga already because she’s an awesome character and a true warrior. If you don’t mind watching a live action film based on a manga, I would still recommend the movie tbh. It was really great, despite not being 100% accurate to the manga.

Thats all I got tbh.

Almost no anime is without a girl being sexualized but I recommend Bleach for awesome female characters and Full Metal Alchemist. Full metal alchemist has some powerful female characters and Winry is so dope. Black lagoon and also apothecary diaries has great female leads. Psychic princess as well if you like Donghua.
